To me, Dark Ballet is a supreme work of art. Madonna begins this song as a pop ballad, singing thoughtful lyrics about the superficial nature of the world over beautiful piano. Her voice is clear, but somewhat raspy with the weight of the world. The melody sounds like classic Madonna. In the second verse, an electronic beat joins the piano, giving us a juxtaposition of classical and modern. Madonna continues to sing this melodic song, and suddenly she is abruptly cut off by the piano solo and the interpolation from The Nutcracker. This is jarring as the best art pop can be. As we enter the second movement, we hear frantic demonic vocals by Madonna that put us into Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush territory.  There is a slight feeling of foreboding. After this segment, we return to Madonna’s normal voice for the poetic spoken word passage that is haunting but in a less creepy manner than the middle passage. These lyrics I find to be the most moving of the song although they would be an utter disaster delivered by many other singers. Her voice in this section is her classic voice, but smoother than in the sung vocals from part one.  She blows like the howling wind, and then we are treated to more piano, this time somewhat sorrowful in tone. Dark Ballet has taken us from defiance to sinister to poetic to sorrowful. As Madonna comes in for one final sung line “it’s a beautiful life,” we have come full circle back to the beginning of the song. Her delivery here, over the now quite somber piano, breaks my heart and stands as one of the saddest moments in her history of song. What brilliance to deliver such an optimistic lyric in a melancholy fashion. The journey of Dark Ballet is now complete although that of Madame X is just beginning.

    This is high art.

    more please.

  2. If someone rates the album a 0 and another rates it a 5, metadistortic would then give the album a score of 50( or whatever weighed average score  near to 50).

    That is a lie.

No reviewer in the above case actually thought the album was a half and half experience.  One reviewer thought the album was completely shit and the other a compete masterpiece.

And if 60 is American Life’s score, then isn’t that what MX should aim for? Or 68 even since that’s my other favorite album Rebel Heart? And shouldn’t MX steer clear of the 90s score range?Cause I don’t want it sounding anything like Beyoncé.

And NME,   f u. for RH and fuck off MX.

Reading through the 4 star reviews I felt I was being jabbed with pins. And I asked myself why am I reading these? These are not reviews, they are hate crime.

As one very astute observer remarked earlier Madonna is a rock star who happens to sing pop. And these men don’t get her. So, that’s that.

I mentioned this earlier on in the thread as I wondered if LAP had similar effects accidentally applied that was for Future.  The way her vocals warbled it sounded more like an effect on her voice.  At this point, I guess it doesn't matter because most of the world has already made up her mind she just sang horribly.  All the criticism that her career has ended over this was so overblown.  Most people don't care and have moved on.  Anyone who hasn't is just a huge hater.

the youtube guy also said that she could have been sick.

  4. “Yet Madame X is admirably bizarre, all you can do is stand back and watch the girl go.”Rob Sheffield

Maybe Rob couldn’t fit in those two other stars into that hat.

Or he’s the kind of man who after a thoroughly enjoyable meal, commends the chef and the service, yet leaves no tip.

  5. this is how he reviewed the album.

    weird,

    taking risks,

    admirably bizarre,

for fans of her loca edge,

mysterious new accent in some, and plays down the accent and gets lost in emotion in another track

a vocodor singing the nut cracker,

you have to endure her pondering political oppression before reaching her strongest songs,

can trigger that 'worried about madonna' feeling,

proud that she is still being willing to act up like this,

never lets us down in a very different way,

time will tell if mx will have staying power,

if you love madonna for her shamelessness - bitch she's loca.

I LOVE MADAME X BECAUSE OF ALL THE ABOVE REASONS.

🙁 That's disappointing to you? What I find disheartening is the episodical reminder that we humans tend to sometimes suggest / dictate how other humans should think / speak.

    + Mirwais is awesome.

some people need to be guided . and mirwais / madonna produced tracks are  awesome.

  7. it is disappointing that some members here focus too much on marketing strategies, promotions and so forth. and also this over enthusiasm for mirwais is kind of insulting to her in a way. the four tracks we got till now are all wonderful. why not be content with that. sometimes i just wish she decides to cancel releasing the rest of the album. some of you should go back and re-listen to rebel heart. that album has been criminally overlooked and unfairly battered. and mainly madonna is also just human. she is not a machine. how about loving her , supporting her and caring for her family and her health. and things like that. maybe consider such things when you concoct another marketing scheme.

Being a fan does not mean blindly subscribing to everything an artist does. That’s called being a mindless shill. Deal with it.

what's wrong with blindly and mindlessly loving someone, as long as that someone is worth it.

She put on a great show, despite problems in the vocal performance for whatever reason ( I don't care) and delivered a message in a powerful and artistic way

i agree. and the criticisms are just unfair.  her editing the show was a bold and an aggressive and necessary move. she was just hitting back, kind of disarming them. and from what i know it's always better to confront a bully. and she changed the narrative. now she's -though not completely -in control of the direction of the discussion. some claim she is dishonest and manipulative for polishing the video. but i think that is better than being ridiculed for no apparent reason. and her fans should just be more protective of her and more supportive. i don't think some appreciated the guts it took to go to Israel and basically warn those in power to learn from the past or else. and if she didn't hit the right keys so what? that shouldn't and didn't jeopardize the purpose. it was a message heavy performance with haunting visuals. and her stage presence was awe inspiring. some fans wanted her to promote the album and others wanted her to boycott the contest. she upset them both. i swear some fans treat her like she is  just a commodity for sale. they have no artistic inclinations.

The dislikes are growing.. maybe she should just delete the video later or remove the votes and comments, idk.. but it’s unfortunate

edit: never mind I can't count. I thought only 25% liked it but more than half still did. not as bad as it could be, tbh.

I just love how she turned things around. Instead of being a subject for their ridicule, she decided to flip the situation and be the manipulative bitch instead.

With Medellin, I thought at least she was turning into a cool older chick.  With crave, it appears she has CGI'd herself into looking 25 again.

and then i discovered it couldn't get worse. you were building my coffin. you were driving my hearse.

I feel like I've watched something else....I actually LOVED it and thought I'd be reading more praise tbh

Like a Prayer felt more like an "intro" before the reveal and my only complaint would be Quavo's lack of presence, those few seconds of him doing his part felt like an eternity.

Madonna was great, the spoken part, the visuals, the moves, the message, the BALLS, it gave me goosebumps.

I'm also having difficulty believing how STUNNING she looks and the outfit was amazing

YES, AND YES AND YES TO THAT.
