And that's probably just some of the factors. Spotify also monitors how each song performs in different regions and at different hours of day, and the names of the playlists people add it to.

The fact she is number 3 on the Pop up playlist and number 1 on the BBMA one is a good thing then?

    Whatever the algorithm or reason!

Crazy theory, but maybe she was planning a 1st single release around performing at Pride, and when that fell out, went with Medellin? Hence why she filmed Medellin after this supposed disco banger's video? She was filming lots of stuff during Q1 of 19, so maybe she had plans B and C all the time.

I think the Pride negotiations are still going on??

The order is determined by a lot of different factors:

    • How many people skip the track before the end of the song?
    • How many people save the track to their favourite songs?
    • How many people go back and listen to the song again?
    • How many people add the track to their own playlists?
    • How many people go to the song radio?
    • How many people go to the artist profile?
    • How many people share the track from within the Spotify app?

For some Spotify Official playlists, the track order is determined by an algorithm. For other Spotify Official playlists, the order is manually decided by human playlist curators.

Thank you for this answer 😍

I didn't realize there were so many factors at play.

  4. Does anyone know how the order for the playlist is determined?

On the Pop up playlist Taylor Swift's song had been at the top but she has now dropped to 13.

Beyonce's Before I left you (which was released around the same time as Medellin) is at 12.

Medellin is now at 3 (behind the Jonas Brothers and Alok)

Is the order determined by the number of daily streams?

Its 30 years since FYG, she had 4 #1s on that album and 2 on the next

Paula Abdul and Mariah Carey hold the record for the most Hot 100 No. 1s from a debut album, with four each. Michael set the record in 1987-88, when he ruled with four consecutive singles from Faith, his first solo LP after dissolving Wham! (“Faith,” "Father Figure," "One More Try" and "Monkey").

I get why she has been asked to perform (and I love that album😍😍)

But I can't imagine why the 30th anniversary of FYG would get the number 2 performance slot ahead of new music by Madonna and Maluma.

  6. I know some sources are saying that Paula Abdul is closing the show but I won't believe it until Bilboard itself announces it. She is the throwback performance (like Salt n Pepa and the Titanic performance in the last 2 years) and neither of those performances closed the show....

No disrespect to Paula but if it's a choice of Madonna and Maluma or Ms. Abdul to close the show then it's a no-brainer.

  7. The new era is just starting (as has the Reiwa era today). It is way too early for pessimism!! We have 2 huge performances, numerous videos, a world tour etc to look forward to.

For the States I honestly believe that an amazing performance at the BBMAs will have more effect than just a slight jump on Itunes... She is going all out on this performance and a viral video would hugely boost her YouTube numbers.

As mentioned by others her streaming seems stable and her listeners and subscribers have increased significantly. All meaning that she is  getting exposure - which I think was their main goal with this single.

    Bring on the BBMAs👍👍👍
