Well, I was unsure if a Mirwais/M collaboration is a good idea and so far theirs are the very obvious stand out tracks. Even only for IDSIF their collaboration WAS NEEDED. And God Control. I am absolutely impressed by Mirwais/Madonna collaboration. I think if they wanted, they could have done an album similar to COADF and dare I say, even stronger :).

My thoughts exactly. This feels slightly less polished/slick, more organic than Confessions. Wow.

  2. If you search for the song on Twitter it seems that 70% of the comments are from Brazil, and fans are loving the song. Didn’t see this sort of reaction when the other ones came out. A lot of people are saying  “ THIS is the Madonna we’d been waiting for.”

She’s still such an icon in Brazil. It breaks my heart that she doesn’t think we’re relevant enough for a leg of the tour here

  3. Two random thoughts before I move on to stanning Dark Ballet hard next week:

    1. Where’s the new PR firm in all of this? Maybe they’re doing damage control in the background? Or just playing dead?

    2. Isn’t it funny how up until last week we were mostly counting on Europe for the kind of support she needed for this era (especially charts), and now I think it’s mostly the US that will have her back (especially since the Eurovision is not a thing over there).

  4. I’ve just watched an unfixed video and I got the impression that besides the karaoke-sounding arrangement, there was a mixing issue, too. It seems her voice either stood out too much or appeared drowned out. Did you guys feel the same way?

Mike Dean is the man behind this mess, isn’t he?

Wonder if she’ll pick him as musical director for the tour 😞

The only point here is she didn't win the GP back. Quite the opposite. The performance (Future) was theatrically remarkable, but lacked stamina and was too subtle for a dumb event watched by (mostly) dumb people. The press and haters are having a field day here. Wish that happened in other event, not one watched by millions across Europe. Yes, attention span last one minute nowadays. Let time pass. Cue to Madonna: if you can't sing Like a Prayer, don't sing it at all.

Yeah, I get it. But just as all this hatred and vitriol are short-lived, so is, I think, whatever praise she might’ve gotten. The superbowl was almost universally acclaimed, but did it stop the haters, did it win back the gp? Maybe for a month or two.

A stellar performance might’ve propelled LAP into the upper echelons of European charts for a week and helped with ticket sales. But I’m not sure it would’ve turned back the clock to 2006 or even 2011.

  6. Maybe I’m being too naive/optimistic, but I think the political/defying message is starting to get more attention than the off key singing or whatever.

Maybe all the backlash will ultimately backfire and she’ll have the last laugh. It’s hard to see things in perspective right now, but maybe we’re missing the bigger picture? I don’t know. Just thinking outloud, I guess.
