Madonna has never been "the easiest to digest". Her presentation of pop music is situated outside most people's comfort zones. But at least most fans can see that in every work of hers, there is "soul" to be found.

THIS!  Often times the brilliance of her work has to slowly be absorbed to fully appreciate it.

I remember when I heard ROL - the album- the 1st time, I was so dissapointed and hated everything about it, from start to finish (apart FROZEN).
Now, ROL is my fav album ever.

I think the songs that grow slowly in you finish to be on top of everything.

Surprised you're not fan of CRAVE, sounds a lot like RH demos you used to love so much... Give it time.

It's my favorite so far. I do really love it! 🙂

I felt the same way about Hard Candy.  Unfortunately, it took me 10 years to warm up to it. But now I adore it.  I'm sure this album won't suffer the same fate for me.  I am ultimately just ecstatic that she is continuing to release music that she put her heart and soul into.

  3. Alright, I love Crave despite some weird singing in the beginning and a rather flat bridge.  I loved Medellin for like a week.  I found I Rise annoying and haven't listened to it much since the first day I heard it.  😞  I'm not blown away by anything yet.  I'm sure the album holds some gems.  Rebel Heart will be tough to beat, for me, but I have an open mind.  I remain optimistic but so far, there's something missing.

And don't come at me.  Everyone here should know how much I love M.  I'm not trying to spread negativity or bash anything.  Just sharing my opinion.  When you have high expectations and enormous excitement about something, it's easy to be let down initially.  My opinions will change over time.

Sadly this is unstoppable. The way our world and societies work now, nothing is gonna change, unless you can profit from change immediately and monetarily.

You’d need Science Fiction or some extremely climate focused global dictatorship to turn things around.

We will all live to see things go downhill.

All true.  Not enough people care enough to change it.  The picture of the sea turtle made me cry.  Humans are the worst animals to ever roam the Earth.

Not too impressed after a few listens tbh. I'm not keen on the treatment given to the vocals throughout.

Same... I mean I like it but I won’t be listening to it a hundred or so times like I have Medellín.

  6. I've been really depressed by chart performance so far.  I never want to get my hopes up anymore but it's baffling that this catchy song isn't even in the Hot 100 on Billboard or being played on the radio at all.  It's genuinely heartbreaking for me because I see how much work she's put into this.  I hope this performance makes a difference, but I see the bump on iTunes for all the other songs that were performed and most are much higher than Medellin.  Still hanging on to the hope that it catches on against all odds.  I hate to be negative, just a little sad this morning after that spectacular performance... I expected to see top 10 on iTunes at least.

I wonder if it is inspired by the Maya Angelou poem.

You may write me down in history
    With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

    Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
’Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
    Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
    With the certainty of tides,
    Just like hopes springing high,
    Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
    Bowed head and lowered eyes?
    Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
    Weakened by my soulful cries?

    Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
’Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
    Diggin’ in my own backyard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.

    Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history’s shame
    I rise
Up from a past that’s rooted in pain
    I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
    I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
    I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
    I rise
    I rise
    I rise.

Very Madonna indeed.  I would not be surprised if she was inspired by this because we all know how she feels about Maya and in fact I think I remember her posting some of this on her insta a while ago?
