Was it ever explained why it was shot this way? Why does her head go in the wrong direction? Was it just one of those errors never caught by the film makers? I find that hard to believe.
It's not the wrong direction! One shot was form the mirror, the other wasn't.

I can only speak for Mexico, but I agree. Madonna is seen as a sort of royalty. She's beyond the right or wrong. But many many stars are seen that way as well (national icons). As long as what you produce is good, the audiences are not ageist, they´re going to listen too you and request your music on the radio.
Madonna is probably the only US female "diva" that is fully respected (All the Mariah's-Whitney´s-Beyonce´s- etc. pale in comparison... we already have Thalia/Paulina/Alejandra/whatever to supersede them).

In Brazil she is perceived as a Head of State. A force of her own. Unstoppabble. When people say her name on TV or something, you can sense the excitement and respect demanded.

I doubt her performance is going to be longer than your run of the mill Grammy performance. Even when she was one of the biggest nominees and opened the show in '99 it was just one song.
But it needs to be an extended version! The album version is too short for the greatness of the track!

Yeah, I don't see the issue of what he said either. The charismatic aspect of leaders like Mussolini, Hitler, Peron, Vargas and so many others are studied in depth. He never said he agreed with their politcs.
