I agree. I also noticed the incorrect usage of “everyday” instead of “every day” in the opening titles. But it doesn’t take away from this masterful video.

YES! Me, too — but I forgot about it because it was at the very beginning and the rest of the video impacted me so heavily! Good catch (and memory)!

PS : Just found a typo in my earlier post! That ought to teach me some humility, eh?! Haha!

Why does Discodonna remind me of Selina Kyle and TypewriterDonna reminds me of Catwoman from Batman Returns?

This video is so brilliant. I’ve watched it 5 times this evening.

Funny! Especially because the Michelle Pfeiffer reference was (reportedly) supposed to be Scarface, rather than Batman Returns. But I like it!

"when the talk reforms" was intentional or it slipped past editing?

I noticed that, too — proofreading and copy editing for work can sometimes be such a curse in everyday life.

But I’m not going to nitpick. The video is epic. I got chills watching it and my eyes definitely got teary. It is powerful and repeat viewings would deepen appreciation. I’m not ready to watch it again just yet, but I know I will.

    She is amazing and fearless.

For those who got the double CD- I read the booklet also lists the songs/credits, a la the vinyl? Thanks.

Yes, true — but it is production, writing, and publishing credits only. There is no credit information such as guest vocalists on tracks or instrumentalists, etc. Usually that information is included, as well, in addition to personal thanks — all that is missing for now. Perhaps it will be published on the website.

  5. As others have reported, Amazon US has pushed back delivery estimates for the box set to mid-July. Which seems crazy ridiculous — I’m definitely considering cancelling that order and sourcing elsewhere. (I really fail to understand why this is so much more difficult this time around? It’s never been this difficult to obtain the box set...)

On a brighter note, I received my 2 CD SHM-CD from Japan today. So there’s some progress.

Still no standard albums from tour ticket bundle redemptions! Ridiculous!

Sorry if I seem materialistic — the music is what is most important, but I do love all the extra images, too.

Whoever, as a designer, thought it was a great idea in the 2CD booklet to place the image of her playing the saxophone right in the center of the spread, so that her face falls right in the gutter, perhaps needs to think more carefully in the future.

    Medellín and Crave: Wednesday

    Dark Ballet: Thursday

    Interesting......

Well, it was technically Friday for Dark Ballet — midnight Thursday night. The video was released at the same time as the preview track, at least in the US iTunes store, anyway.

But, yes, Dark Ballet was not on a Wednesday like the previous two videos were.

  7. Oo! I could be mistaken — I need to look back at the original Harper’s Bazaar — but I think there are a couple never-before-seen images here. I don’t remember the fan one. Maybe the color ones in the hallway were in b&w or something, because those look new as well. I don’t remember the veil shot where you can’t see her face as clearly (where she is seated, leaning) either. It’s very clearly and obviously the same shoot, but I don’t recall those shots.

I loved that video that served as a teaser for the shoot at the time. I remember she said it was inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Beautiful and the Damned.

still waiting for BeatsOne to give us the FULL MADONNA INTERVIEW. what's taking them so long?

Maybe they’re waiting for that “Madonna Lab” event thing to happen. I’ve been very confused by the timing of that — we heard about it earlier, I guess when Apple held that conference for developers? But it wasn’t “everywhere” you know? I only found links to it through reading this forum. But M has finally posted something (not behind the scenes, but actual announcement-type of post) and I thought the dates were this week, maybe?

It’s the “remix Crave using an iPhone and GarageBand” or something like that. In store, on devices they supply.

So anyway, what I mean is, maybe this interview will be released to coincide with the in store Apple promo. They can cross promote that way. Just musing aloud — I have no actual idea.

  9. She said Quavo’s “sparkle!” was her favorite of his ad libs.

Pretty sure she did also say Future was her favorite (or one of her faves) but it was difficult to hear that and she didn’t quite finish... but it’s possible what she was saying was an unfinished thought and she went with the conversation and whatever Jimmy was saying. I’d have to re-watch later to be sure, but that’s my recollection.

  10. ^ Not too much longer. There was the neon dance battle before the interview. Maybe a couple minutes missing, but I’m at a loss to recall anything else missing. Those two clips are pretty long — totaling about 10 minutes maybe? And there was another guest after here, and then a musical guest. So I don’t think there was that much more time for her. Other than the dance battle, I mean.

Madonna is like Prince at this point. An icon, but a subversive one. I don’t take any of it personally tbh

Right! I’m trying not to take it personally, even though clearly I must be a little bit, since I’ve posted so many comments about it. Ha! Oh well. Hopefully Madonna doesn’t take it personally either.

Oh I totally forgot that ridiculous mdna comment. Lmao I don’t even think Obama remembers

he probably just isn’t the type to go crazy over anyone. Michelle is more of the celebrity tbh

And Michelle calls Beyoncé “queen” so ...

Not trying to get into stupid stan stuff, but it’s pretty clear there’s not any love there. Not being expressed as it is for others, anyway, so... Oh well.

  13. I’m gonna stop dwelling, because I feel like I’m being a downer about an otherwise fun appearance ... but I’ll just say it is this story coupled with the other “snubs” for lack of a better word throughout the years... M was very supportive of him during both election cycles, and at the RHT stop in DC she spoke about him before LVER. It was clear she was feeling a little something about the fact that she invited him but he didn’t come.

Many other celebrities got an invite to the White House during his eight years in office. Not M. (Her humanitarian work alone should have been able to get her in the door...)

That’s it, though. She wears her heart on her sleeve about him, and it just seems unrequited. Okay, I’m not losing sleep over it, but I just feel a little sad for M about it. I don’t really care one way or the other, except as it impacts Madonna. She doesn’t seem heartbroken, but for her to have to say, “He probably didn’t even know me” seems almost absurd.

It isn't! It just sounds as if President Obama wasn't star struck! That's all! People are inferring something sinister unjustly!

There were strong implications around the time of the controversial comments during the second night in DC on the MDNA Tour that Obama and his administration were not happy with Madonna and communicated as much to her. Clearly it didn’t cause Madonna’s affection/fondness for him to flag at all. I’m not implying anything SINISTER. I’m saying the story isn’t necessarily FLATTERING to Madonna, so I would have preferred they spent the very short time talking about something else, rather than repeating the same anecdote we heard when she gave Jimmy the facial (I think?).

It’s fine. It’s whatever. I shared how I felt. I liked her appearance. I was not applying sinister undertones to it, though.

Why is that Obama story bad? Lol

I guess maybe I’m being overly dramatic, but they told this story last time she was on ... and I had a co-worker who told me he turned it off because she was “too much” — she was perhaps a little OTT on the flirtatious scale with the president, who is married. (Said co-worker likes Madonna but commented on how she was making inappropriate remarks about him since he is a married man.) So there’s that angle, too. But my beef with it is that it lays bare how desperately she wanted to meet him, she did the show just for that purpose, and Jimmy’s innocently relaying the bit about asking Obama if he wants to meet her ... but it just comes off as Obama not being impressed with meeting her, almost ambivalent or perhaps even reluctant.

Many other stories out there show other luminaries being starstruck by a legend, and yet Jimmy paints this picture of a president who wants to shake hands and get out of the room.

Maybe I’m just being negative or picky, but I feel like once was enough for the anecdote. Sorry if I sound hypersensitive or something. Just my read on it.

Yup! At least she’s doing theater tour, not some residency in Vegas! :lmao:

Right ... I can’t believe my ears even picked up on that ... because I have been ignoring THAT for a long time now ... I ignore that thread in the pop princesses forum for the most part, so I surprised myself that the reference even registered for me.

  17. The album is #1 in space. On Mars, this is the #1 album!

I love how he loves her so unabashedly and effusively.

It made the interview a little frantic and flustered — went by so fast! But overall, I think it had a good vibe.

When they came back from commercial, he was wearing the “J” eyepatch! Haha!

  18. Yeah, the Obama story has been told, and it is not getting cuter with re-tellings. Sorry and sad to say. I said it in the Beyoncé thread before, so I’m not going there again, but ... this re-telling just reinforces how it sounds like he was not very excited or into meeting Madonna. And that is just really sad since she very openly loves him.

Anyway, she was super cute, charming, funny. Beguiling. And her décolletage — that dress — just looks great — little bit of edge but still elegant.

The bridge in Crazy is my fav

Yes! I was thinking this before I even saw the thread.

My fave part of Medellín (other than the “one, two, cha cha cha” parts and the “slow down, papí”) is the part Mooncrown picked. It is so catchy and elevates the track. Whether it’s the bridge or the post-chorus or the real chorus or the second chorus — it’s a wonderful element of the song.
