  1. Yes - I believe so. I think after next week it will be really hard for Madonna to take the top spot. The reason is that by the time the album is released, 4M will have already sold about a million downloads. So, I don't think the 4M downloads will be huge the week of the album release (since most people will already have teh song). Also she is not doing any promo that week either.

I think this next week is the best shot. (Leona's downloads will decline, Mumu will decline, No Air's downloads will decline too). Hopefully with the extra bump from the remixes she can pass the rest.

This is the most important week for us to support her by requesting and by buying the remixes.

so 4M's best (and, probably, only) shot at #1 will be next week... because of the remixes? :)
  2. Well, it has still managed to achieve a peak that is 25% higher than Hung Up. Not amazing, but not bad either. Its performance is MILES better than the other "divas" - such as Janet, Whitney & Celine.

If it peaks in 40 million AI I am a bit dissapointed. With Justin on board it definetly SHOULD go top 10 on pop and peak AT LEAST 50 - 60 AI range.

It is only a moderate hit with 40 m AI. I mean it is not THAT much better than HU ~ 30, which was not considered a success on radio.

  3. Candylipsgirl,

You are not taking into account the first few days of the itunes sales this week, when Mariah was ahead of Madonna. I think that overall, Madonna's downloads will be about 20-25% ahead of Mariah's for this week..

    I like Mtz previous post.

If we extrapulate "usher" selling the same as last week 130-140

    then, one can surmise....

    (through the bar thingy)

4m bar is double of usher. In other words, last week 4m sold 217k and (like mtz posted) if Usher sells 140 this week

Madonna should do 280 ..plausible (last week 217k plus 1 extra day plus moving to number 1 on itunes)

    280k plus 40 air = 320 points

    or

    270k plus 40 air = 310 points

    mariah

    180k plus 125 air = 305 points

I would say Madonna (plausibly) can reach # 1.

  4. I think that the Immaculate Collection really did dampen LAP sales. I mean, prior to IC, if you wanted LAP (the song), EY or Cherish, you would have to buy LAP album. But if the casual consumer had already bought IC, I cannot imagine them buying LAP just to get Oh Father, Deart Jessie etc etc.

At this time I also have to make a confession :nocomment: ! I became a Madge fan in the early nineties. I have the Immaculate Collection, but never bought the Like A Prayer CD!

  5. I didn't know that Oh Father wasn't released as a UK single.

That's a pity that she did not release more from this classic album. Sometimes, I get annoyed at Madonna - especially when she works hard and comes up with an awesome album, but then releases too few singles (eg Like A Prayer) or makes crappo videos (eg. Jump, Sorry etc). That said, she still has had an unbelievable run throughout most of the world. Its tough to imagine that Rihanna, Beyonce etc are going to be around in 15-20 years in any significant way.

  6. Wow! How come Like a Prayer sold only 1.2 million in the UK. Madonna had huge hits from that album in the UK. Didn't she release 5 singles from that album (or was it 6?). Anyway, I am preetty shocked that Like A Prayer sold less than COADF and Music!

Also, I am *slightly* disappointed that COADF didn't even come close to the sales of Music and ROL. I adore COADF!
