I've just been on Madonna's official website and she's still listing Manchester on the 8th  bloed_2.gif  Bad bad bad webdesigner!

madonna's official sticky and sweet webpage

It also shows the 7th as being sold out... wrong.  I could have got two tickets on ebay for less than half the price of one ticket this morning!

^ that page also only list the tour going until Munich. That is why the official tour page on Madonna.com is the one to go by. Also Manchester is a predicted sellout. It doesn't matter if there are some tix here or there and obviously second hand ticket sales like ebay do not count.

Last time, LIVE NATION waited until the entire first European leg was done to annouce any grosses - didn't they? They might wait until the whole tour is done this time (since it is short - just 2 months). I hope they start posting Boxscores sooner than later.

You know, I realize this second leg will still be a huge success but Live Nation's logistics have sucked ass this time out. Venues not being 100% secured for the shows, spotty sales in certain markets, and bypassing cities that could've had better results. If they knew ticket sales were blowing in Slovenia, why not cancel it 2 months ago and do a show in Istanbul or even Zagreb?

I'm sorry but this is some shitty half-ass planning. Madonna needs to fire someone.

Cheggy on Tribe wrote this about Belgrade:

No, it was actually "over 20, 000" and "over 1/2 of the tickets sold", which means maximum 25, 000 so far. Given that Lupa clearly lied about 20, 000 tickets sold during the first day of sales [in Ljubljana], I just hope that, at least, Belgrade figures are accurate. Hope nothing goes wrong with Belgrade show.

Live Nation is a joke.

Madonna cancels Slovenia gig, media cite sales

LJUBLJANA (Reuters) - Pop star Madonna has canceled her concert in Ljubljana, Slovenia scheduled for August 20, the tour manager said on Friday.

Local media cited poor ticket sales as the main factor, although promoters denied this was the reason.

It is the second concert Madonna has canceled since July. A performance in the southern French town of Marseille was scrapped after the stage being built for it collapsed, killing two workers.

"The reason for the cancellation is unforeseen logistical difficulties," said Laszlo Borsos, managing director of Live Nation in Budapest, overseeing Madonna's tour in eastern Europe.

"There is no problem with ticket sales, absolutely."

Slovenian media reported the concert had to be canceled as promoters had sold only 7,000 of a planned 63,000 tickets in a city with a population of 250,000.

In 1997 Michael Jackson was set to play the same location, but his concert was axed amid poor sales.

According to Madonna's website www.madonna.com, of 12 remaining concerts on her Europe tour which ends in Israel, only Sunday's upcoming concert in Gothenburg, Sweden, is sold out.

In cities such as Belgrade, where Madonna has never performed before, organizers are advertising heavily in the lead up to a concert later this month.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have an idea why Live Nation booked her in Gothenburg and not Stockholm? Isn't Stockholm a lot bigger population-wise? Just wondering...

^ No but the stadium in Gothenberg is the only major modern stadium in the country. U2 just did two shows there as well. Stockholm has a decent arena but no suitable stadium. Population wise Gothenberg is much smaller but people in Swededn are used to haveing to go to the stadium in Gothernberg for major events.

^ Way is live nation a joke? They could have went on with the concert there but coudn't due to logistical issues. Sales were fine there. At the very worst would have been a Zaragoza like situation which was just fine. Slovenia has a history of not being able to accomadate major concerts and international events so it really is LOGISTICAL issues. If you want to talk about major artisi not selling in that location you can cite MJ only selling 3,000 tickets for his HISTORY tour there as a reference.

Nightshade: According to Wiki, Ullevi is the biggest stadium of Scandinavia and can hold 60,000 spectators. The Olympic Stadium of Stockholm can only hold 32,000 at most, so I guess that's the reason.

I can't find much info about the BAT venue, Eriksberg Stadium. It seems that one wasn't a real stadium but an outdoor place like Helsinki? This is from MJ's Bad Tour page: "The two concerts in Gothenburg, Sweden on June 11 and June 12, 1988 were scheduled at the Ullevi Stadium but it was under repair. Instead the concert was held at Gothenburg's shipyard in Eriksberg."

boytoyville: Sorry, but fans from Slovenia knew the cancellation would happen at one point, apparently the local promoter fucked up and could not schedule it in Zagreb, which was always a better spot for concerts. Udine is very close to Ljubljana and they say that took sales away (which was added LATER to the tour schedule). This show was not selling well, was not close to Zaragoza numbers either, otherwise they would not have cancelled it.

Of course LN would not admit "yes true, it was not selling, so we cancel it to keep Budapest and Belgrade" but coming up with logistical difficulties 13 days before the show is a joke and disrespectful to fans.

A Slovenian fan actually talked to the local promoter last month who said if the show happens, no matter how many people attend, Madonna and LN will get a fixed amount of money. So in the end, the local promoter could not sell enough tickets to reach that. Supposedly they wanted 40,000 tickets to be sold. It's a horse racing venue like Budapest, so even 70,000 people could have attended... Ironically the Hamburg date was also a venue like this and that wasn't selling well either, so they added a 2nd Oslo show.

Maybe next time Madonna goes through a reinvention, she can transform herself into someone who's popular in Slovenia. Just a thought.

The pop queen has been forced to cancel an upcoming concert in the eastern European nation's capital city of Ljubljana, though no one can quite agree as to why.

A rep for Live Nation insisted that the Aug. 20 gig was scrapped due to "unforeseen logistical difficulties"—and absolutely nothing to do with the indifference of Slovenians, who, per the local media, haven't welcomed Madonna with open arms (and trust us, this is one star who knows from guns).

"There is no problem with ticket sales—absolutely," Laszlo Borsos, the managing director of Live Nation's Budapest arm, said (presumably with a straight face).

Someone may want to tell reporters that.

Several Slovenian news outlets claim otherwise, reporting that just 7,000 tickets have been sold for the 63,000-seat venue.

Though even if the reports of modest-at-best sales are incorrect, the choice of arena may have been overly optimistic in the first place. The city only has a population of 250,000, which means a full house would have required the presence of a quarter of its residents.

Uhm, if Michael Jackson and Madonna can't sell out concerts here, I seriously would like to know who is popular enough to do so.

Maybe it was the promoter who pulled the plug? That doesn't seem like a terrible number for this leg anyway. On par with Zaragoza and Udine (relatively). Perhaps Live Nation was having venue issues again (that would be "logistic issues").
