The Bridges of Madame X

Recommended Posts

So I love a good bridge and Madonna has some of the greatest ones ever.  I'm trying to compile the list of bridges from Madame X but  have some questions as the song structures are not as conventional on some of the tunes.  Here's what I'm thinking are the bridges but I am hoping others will chime in with their thoughts.  I am still waiting for my 2 CD edition to come so if someone can fill in the info for the 3 bonus tracks that would be appreciated 🙂

Also please feel free to share what your favorite bridge from Madame X is.

Medellin:  ( I have also seen this referred to as a 2nd chorus)

Si te enamoro (Si me enamoras)
En menos de un año, no, no (Hahaha)
No' vamo', no' vamo', no vamo' pa' Medallo (Ay, qué rico)
Si te enamoro (Si me enamoras)
Es lo que amo, no, no
Pue' mami, pue' mami, pue' mami, nos casamos

Dark Ballet:

I will not denounce the things that I have said
I will not renounce my faith in my sweet Lord
He has chosen me to fight against the English
And I'm not afraid at all to die 'cause I believe him
God is on my side and I'll be his bride
I am not afraid 'cause I have faith in him
You can cut my hair and throw me in a jail cell
Say that I'm a witch and burn me at the stake
It's all a big mistake
Don't you know to doubt him is a sin?
I won't give in

God Control:

It’s a weird kind of energy, a bizarre thing that happens to be
An abnormal fraternity, and I feel more than sympathy

Future:

We can light up the dark, everyone has a spark
Don't tell me to stop 'cause you said so (Oh, yeah)
Your future is bright (Bright), just don't turn off the light (Lights)
Tell the sun not to shine (Bright) 'cause you said so

Batuka: (Maybe?)

Sing, "Hallelujah" (Sing, "Hallelujah")
Say, "Amen" (Say, "Amen")
Say, "Hallelujah" (Say, "Hallelujah")
And say, "Amen" (And say, "Amen")
I say, "Oh, yeah" (I say, "Oh, yeah")
I said, "Oh, yeah" (I said, "Oh, yeah")
I said, "Amen" (I said, "Amen")
I say, "Hallelujah" (I say, "Hallelujah")

Killers Who Are Partying: (Maybe?)

Eu sei o que sou
E o que não sou (É, é, é, é)
Eu sei o que sou
E o que não sou (É, é, é, é)
O mundo (Wild is the world)
Wild is the world (É selvagem)
Wild is the world (É, é, é, é)

Crave:

Ran so far to try to find the thing I lacked and there it was
Inside (Side) of (Of) me (Me)
Ran and ran and ran so fast, a thing to last, and there it was
I hear (Hear) you (You) breathe (Breathe)

Crazy:

Eu te amo
Mas não deixo você me destruir
I put you on a pedestal, but statues, they can fall
Felt so safe, I let you drive me straight into the war
Paid the hell you dealt me, thought you felt me
Was never good at games, now I'll just forget your name
(Forget your name) Mmm

Come Alive: No bridge

Extreme Occident:

No, I wasn't lost
It was a different feeling
A mix of lucidity and craziness
But I wasn't lost, you believe me
I was right, and I've got the right
To choose my own life like a full circle
Life is a circle, life is a circle, life is a circle, life is a circle
Life is a circle, life is a circle, life is a circle, life is a circle
Aquilo que mais magoa
É que eu não estava perdida
Aquilo que mais magoa
É que eu não estava perdida

Faz Gostoso:

Ele faz, ele faz, ele faz
Faz tão gostoso
Ele faz, ele faz, ele faz
(Toma que toma que toma, tá)
I like to party, party, party
Come baby come, go baby go
Come baby come, go baby go
Come baby come, go baby go
Come baby come (Safado)

Bitch I'm Loca:

Bitch, I'm loca, lo-lo-lo-loca
Ella es mi loca, loca y yo soy loco, loco
Bitch, I'm loca, lo-lo-lo-loca
Pero si me pide yo se lo co–, lo co–

I Don't Search I Find: No bridge? Or is the spoken part the bridge?

Looking For Mercy: No bridge

I Rise:

Freedom's what you choose to do with what's been done to you
No one can hurt you now unless you want them to
(Unless you want)
No one can hurt you now unless you love 'em too (B.S.)
Unless you love 'em too

Funana: ?

Back That Up to The Beat:?

Ciao Bella:?

I always thought the bridge to Medellin was "We built a cartel just for love, venus was hovering above us" etc...

The others sound right to me though!

Wonderful job!

I was thinking that Killers Who Are Partying has no bridge and that that was simply part of the chorus, but other than that, I think you nailed them!

We built a cartel.. Is just the 3rd verse. Medellin is not constructed like a typical pop song, most of MX arent and finding bridges and pre-choruses is just.. tricky

Thanks!

Yes I wasn't sure about that one - it very well could just be an alternate chorus.

Yes I could see that also for sure.

yeah i expect a proper bridge to have a key change or at least be different melodically from the verses and choruses. i do think the "second chorus" could be viewed as a bridge, enough though it's repeated, which is something she's done before ("express yourself" comes to mind).

i would consider the spoken part in "i don't search i find" to be the bridge.

like "medellin," that part in "i rise" is really a third verse. a proper bridge is one of the things that is noticeably missing from that song.

The bridge in Crazy is my fav

Yes! I was thinking this before I even saw the thread.

My fave part of Medellín (other than the “one, two, cha cha cha” parts and the “slow down, papí”) is the part Mooncrown picked. It is so catchy and elevates the track. Whether it’s the bridge or the post-chorus or the real chorus or the second chorus — it’s a wonderful element of the song.

That's the chorus while "Ven conmigo..." is a prechorus. Or you can call them chorus 1 and chorus 2. No bridge.

That's a different section. No bridge. It had a very unconventional structure.

Probably. Again a very unconventional structure.

Definitely.

Thanks for all the input!  I think it's really cool that these songs are so complex and unconventional that there are multiple opinions on what is a pre-chorus, chorus, bridge or 2nd chorus!

The bridge of God Control is one of the best put to a record. It comes out of nowhere and it is all kinds of perfect. So much so that once is more than enough yet it keeps you coming back for more.
