Songs about countries and cities

Recommended Posts

@karbatal   Love Eddi Reader - wonderful choices.

I have talked about this song before with you too - Daniel by Elton John.  Probably through hearing this song as a child as my mother loved it,  it was the first time I heard of Spain and it straight away was fascinating because of the lyrics here.  How music can be so wonderful. His brother Daniel was travelling to Spain on a plane and Daniel said Spain was the best place he had ever seen.

The video clip is not the best but love this song.  Sounds of Then - this is Australia.  Fantastic lyrics that captures Australia - out on the patio we sit, and the humidity we breathe, we watch the lighting crack over cane fields, laugh and think this is Australia.  Definitely written about Summer !

George Michael Patience and An Easy Affair make me picture being in London.

Kylie Fever album makes me think of London.

Britney Spears Why Should I Be Sad make me think of LA at night.

Abba - Happy Hawaii.  Contains some of the funniest lyrics that Abba often used -  Alice has been there, she said it was fun.,  Swimming and Surfing, enjoying the Sun

Every Australian knows this song.  Sung at every Karaoke night  - hilariously many used to sing " the last train out of Sydney instead of the Last Plane out of Sydney.  Jimmy Barnes once joked that he could never understand as how could anyone get a train to another country from Australia - of course it was plane

Berlin :

"I'm going to a town that has already been burnt down
I'm going to a place that has already been disgraced
I'm gonna see some folks who have already been let down
I'm so tired of America"

This song succeeded so wonderfully to create the nostalgia of the flower power era. When I listen to this song, I always feel like I can take a trip back in time. When I visited San Francisco, I could not help but listen to this song as I watched the bay with the Golden Gate in the distance.

This is a good song and I recently heard for the first time Perfect Day and Satellite  of Love from the same album. They're very good tracks!

Still have to listen to the remainder of the album though.....
