Westlife confirms reunion with new tour and music – but one member's missing
Will you be missing this band member?

Westlife fans, rejoice! The boy band are reuniting six years after their split, with new music and a tour lined up. Kian Egan, Nicky Byrne, Mark Feehily and Shane Filan made the announcement in a video posted on Facebook, although former member Brian McFadden, who left in 2004, will not be joining.

The video shows the four lads sitting on stools and greeting each other as they walk into the room, with Nicky apologising for being late. "I missed the train," he says, laughing. "So, we do it on three, or just start?" asks Shane. "Let's do it on three," says Mark. Shane counts the group in before they say, "Hi, we're Westlife!" "We'll be seeing you soon," they say at the end of the clip.

The reunion marks 20 years since the band first formed in 1998. During their career, they reached 14 UK number one singles and had seven top-selling albums, known for their hits including Uptown Girl, Flying Without Wings and Fool Again. After splitting in 2012, Kian, Nicky, Mark and Shane embarked on solo careers, as did Brian who had left years before. This week, it was confirmed that Brian will be taking part in Dancing on Ice next year.

Kian, 38, also made headlines after winning I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2013. Speaking to HELLO! after his jungle victory, the singer, who shares three children with wife Jodi, said: "Being away from my family made me look at our lives. I was on top of the world and the only other time I'd felt like this was when we had Koa." He added: "I'd love to have a mini Jodi. I'm so lucky to have her and Koa and if we can give him a brother or sister, why wait?" Kian and Jodi went on to welcome two more sons – Zekey in 2015 and Cobi in 2017.

I only know of that one SAPPY song, Swear It Again. I don't think they had anything else that was remotely close to being a hit here in the states but that one song.

It will always remind me of my first sexual encounter with a boy when I lived in California. I will never forget. The beginning of this song came on as he was starting to go down on me. What a song to have immortalized in my head for all eternity. :lmao:

Poor Brian... :imsad:

Brian McFadden says his former Westlife bandmates are blocking a full reunion
He says a 'major offer' was on the cards.

It looks everyone is reuniting at the moment, but one group who seemingly won't be getting back together in their entirety is Westlife.

Brian McFadden, who quit the boyband in 2004, has said that although there was 'a major offer' for them to return as a five-piece, his former bandmates have blocked that from happening.

"I was offered a big multi-million pound deal. It was the other boys in Westlife who said 'no'. They didn't want me back," Brian told The Irish Sun.

"How does that make me feel? It makes me pretty upset because I didn't realise they still had those feelings towards me."

Brian's quotes come a day after The Mirror reported that Brian posted a series of (now-deleted) tweets discussing the deal and the rest of the group's reservations about Brian returning to the band.

"Dear fans and people who have supported us when we had bloody nothing," he wrote in the post, "Your [sic] the kings and queens who are us and we love you."

"But I completely Underatand that the group see them selfs as a four piece.but let's be honest. Ego is destroying a full Westlife reunion [sic]."

He later clarified what he meant, in another tweet that has also now been deleted.

"For the record. I have spoken to senior members of the westlife project saying a major offer is on the table for a 5 man reunion," he shared.

"That's fine but you have to respect the wishes of shane mark nick and Kian. If they only want to be a four piece I respect that."

One tweet that managed to escape the culling on Twitter was this one, in which Brian responded to a fan saying that there was "nothing [he] can do" about making Westlife a five-piece group again.

"Pal o would love us to sing the old songs but they've got a complex against me," he wrote. "Nothing I can do."

A spokesperson for Brian told Digital Spy: "Brian has never had any desire or intention to join the Westlife reunion, since leaving the band his focus has always been his solo career and he has a new solo album coming out later this year, which coupled with performing with his good friend Keith Duffy as Boyzlife is where his energies currently lie.

"The solo album is a work of love and a new direction for McFadden, he's currently in the studio rehearsing, writing and recording between Boyzlife gigs. He has a lot of fun on the road with Keith and is extremely passionate about his forthcoming release, which will feature some great collaborations and a series of solo shows planned for later this year and early 2019.

"Brian is also committed to his personal relationship and a charity venture he is currently planning for this Xmas. There is little time in his schedule to have any concern over the Westlife reunion."

Both Louis Walsh and Shane Filan have publicly said that they consider Westlife to be a four-person group now, with the latter specifically noting that Brian has been out of the group longer than he was in it.

"We all had a good relationship with Brian, then he just left the band very early on. And I don't think we would ever reunite with him," Shane said earlier this week.

"I honestly see Westlife as being four people now. The four people who started and finished Westlife are what I consider the band. Brian has been out of the band longer than he was in it. If we ever reunited down the line, it would only be the four of us."

There are only two boy bands I kind of like because of the cult momentum they had in history and that’s New Kids On The Block and Take That. All others are crap and/or ugly, therefore completely useless to be honest.

(Notable mention goes to Backstreet Boys’ song Everybody, cause it’s fun.)

Talk about ugly... :1251:

Westlife Origin:

Kian Egan, Markus Feehily and Shane Filan, along with fellow Sligo men Derrick Lacey, Graham Keighron, and Michael Garrett, were part of a six-member pop vocal group called Six as One, changed in 1997 to IOYOU. The group, managed by choreographer Mary McDonagh and two other informal managers, released a single titled "Together Girl Forever" which was written by Feehily and Filan.

Louis Walsh, the manager of fellow Irish boy band Boyzone, came to know the group after he was contacted by Filan's mother, but the group failed to secure a BMG record deal with Simon Cowell.

Cowell told Walsh: "You are going to have to fire at least three of them. They have great voices, but they are the ugliest band I have ever seen in my life." Three members of the band (Lacey, Keighron and Garrett) were told they would not be part of the new group, and auditions were held in Dublin where Nicky Byrne and Brian McFadden were recruited.

The new group, formed on 3 July 1998, was renamed Westside but that name was already in use by another band, so it was changed to Westlife. In Westlife – Our Story, Byrne revealed that, unlike the others in the group, he was keen to change the name to West High. McFadden also changed the spelling of his name to Bryan to make it easier to sign autographs. Boyzone singer Ronan Keating was brought in to co-manage the group with Walsh. The band then released an EP titled Swear It Again.

Westlife weren't that ugly. They just looked like a group of lads you'd see in a Yates Wine Lodge on a Saturday night.

I had a serious crush with Shane Filan

They had good jams:

1. Fool Again

2. Swear It Again

3. When You’re Looking Like That

4. Unbreakable

5. I Lay My Love On You
