Love Medulla! Always have and always will. Yes it has certain interesting moments (hello "Ancestors") but as an album it works very well and some are up there with her very best, e.g. "Pleasure Is All Mine", "Desired Constellation", "Triumph Of The Heart", "Who Is It" etc.

Biophilia is just awful.

I totally agree - Medulla was the last time we got proper melodies/accessible song structures, and Biophilia was the peak of her seeing music not as music but as sound or something

Vespertine

Post

Debut

Medulla

Homogenic (I only got into this like 2 years ago)

Utopia

Volta

Vulnicura

Biophilia

I’m shocked at the reaction to Biophilia! I would have it in my top 5 ... anyone else?

...anyone??? 🤔

I can't even name most of the songs on Biophilia let alone hum or try to 'sing' any of them.

Vulnicura was such a return to form though! And I really am enjoying Utopia .

Homogenic is my favorite as well. It gets fuzzy from there. I still appreciate Debut and Volta compliments it and Post as an answer to those albums after she went off the reservation.

Really had to rank for me, the first 3 are like 3 of the greatest albums every made!! In recent years my hardcore fandom has died a little as she’s pushed the abstract and conceptual stuff a far for me.

1. Homogenic

2. Vespertine

3. Post

4. Debut

5. Medulla

6. Selmasongs

7. Vulnicura

————— I don’t really listen to these

8. Utopia (I like a few like Losss and Saint)

9. Volta

10. Biophilia

11. Drawing Restraint 9 (absolutely love Storm though!!!)

I’ve never got the hate for it. I guess people aren’t keen on human voice production. Because it’s got serious “bops” and melodies. Who Is It and Desired Constellation are my favourites.

Volta is superior in retrospect than on arrival.

I agree. It’s possoble we discussed this before and I relistened and appreciated it more because of that discussion...

I think her latter albums stick to the theme too much, but Utopia could do with being more thematic...it could've been a springtime Vespertine if it weren't for the angsty songs 2/3rds way in.  No one wants to hear "sue me sue me sue me sue meeeeeeeeeeee" on an album named Utopia lol

She's becoming more explicit about her personal life lyrically.

True! I was very surprised at some of the lyrics on that album

I wonder why she doesn't do a proper tour these days? I think her last real tour (not just a bunch of festivals/residencies with a few solo concerts here and there) was for Vespertine or Volta

I only saw her once in 03 for her Greatest Hits Tour.

She lost me at Medulla and I never went back.

I was surprise to see how she's unknown to the younger generation. My bf is an art teacher to 17-20yo students and they just don't know her...
