This album is......perfect. I don't even know what to say. A gorgeous sonic journey that gives me all sort of feels. She knocked it out of the park.

Musicians these days don't make albums like this anymore. This record made me nostalgic for a time when artists put their hearts into making records that made a statement. When they used their voice for something bigger than they were instead of bitching about how mean the press is to them or just trying to score the most streams and YouTube views.

I miss albums like this. Kudos to her for not giving a fuck about any of that and creating an album that will undoubtedly be revered for decades to come.

Prince would be so proud.

Thank you.

Her visuals are ALWAYS on point. Love seeing the long-form music video be taken seriously again.

so by visual album i guess they mean like a "rock opera" in the same vain as Tommy? by The Who?

TBH every album should be like that!

I'm a casual JM fan but this visual album is really great. she sounds fresh and it all feels new.

I told myself exactly the same thing. Do not get me wrong, I consider Lemonade to be an excellent album but it is not the feminist masterpiece that the critics wanted to sell us. Here, the message is clear and affirmed. Sexuality is assumed for oneself and not for others.

I love her so much.  The Archandroid and The Electric Lady are masterpieces and this is arguably even better.

Exactly! I loved Lemonade too, but apart from maybe Formation I found it’s message pretty vague. Janelle comes across as truely inspired!! She such an exciting artist!!

I still have to listen to the new album. There are a few older songs that I always liked from.

Dirty Computer is amazing

I concur!  I didn't pay much mind to her until this album release and now I'm going back and enjoying her older music as well.  But this new album really stands out.

Saw her live last night & she MURDERED every performance: fab visuals & costumes, live vocals, great choreo, loads of audience interaction :wow:

Good shot at Album of the Year for me if Madonna doesn't drop.

Oooh I know I'm super late, but I just discovered this song here and I'm stunned! Was absolutely not expecting this. I only knew 'You Make Me Feel" so far and while I liked the funky Prince-inspired sound, it didn't really have enough of a punch to me. This track however sounds absolutely epic.

To the posters who know the album - are the other tracks going into that direction as well or are they more Hip-Hop based? I didn't really pay attention to it last year when it came out but I might be inclined to look into it now :dramatic:

Most of the tracks on the album are genre-blending so they're hard to define. If you liked "I Like That," you might also like "Crazy, Classic, Life," "Take A Byte" and "Screwed." To echo some of the other posts on this thread, she is amazing and vastly underappreciated. If life were fair, she would be getting all of the adoration and attention the general public give to Beyoncé.

@Priceless Thank you for your reply!! I will give it a listen this evening. It does surprise me her music seems to fall under the radar for most music listeners....Like, I would have never known about that song if not randomly hearing it on an alternative radio station yesterday.

@Priceless You were on point with your tip! Listened to the album yesterday and Screwed / Crazy Classic Life are the other two songs I like the most. Also enjoy the slower songs like So Afraid and Don't Judge Me.

The whole album is great indeed. What I love the most is how it's a sonic journey from beginning to end - those types of albums have become so rare nowadays, if not to say extinct. So huge props to her for pulling it off like she did.

It's such a shame that her career takes place at such a basic time. In the 90s, she would have had a huge success.

"Don't Judge Me" is such a great song! I love how down-tempo and chill the track is...a slow jam that is actually cool and sexy.

She is so under-rated.  Talent, intelligence, is fully involved with the making of her music and great stage craft.   Never gets enough credit or the attention she deserves.

Yes to all the above. There was a reason why Prince was mentoring her (along with Esperanza Spalding, Judith Hill, and a few others).
