Christmas Music

Recommended Posts

Since I don't yet see a thread for it this year.  What are some of your favorite songs/albums?  And what do we think of Sia and Gwen's albums?  I surprisingly can't stand Sia's and LOVE Gwen's.  I was expecting the complete opposite.

This may be my favorite Christmas album of all time:

Some of my favorite modern Christmas albums:

In all actuality, I enjoy the majority of Midwinter Graces. Harps of Gold is a clunker and A Silent Night With You is pretty sachrine. But what’s good (Our New Year, Winters Carol) is excellent.

I also love Annie Lennox’s holiday album. And Michael Buble’s is just everything. His version of Blue Christmas is by far the the best rendition I’ve ever heard.

I know she’s not loved around here but Sheryl Crow has a solid Christmas album as well.

But NO ONE can top the definitive Christmas song of all time:

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas by the incomparable Judy Garland. I shed a tear to that damn song every single year.

I'm extremely old fashioned with my Christmas music and prefer our national traditional songs in even older arrangements

:old:

I also love a couple of old English Christmas songs or some American classics. Pop xmas songs not so much.

Same here Lolo. Love the traditional carols in all their glory.  They are incredibly beautiful when performed by great singers or by choirs.

Love a singer called Silvie Paladino who sings traditional carols and melodic Christmas songs such as " my grown up Christmas list" so beautifully.  Hate screeching pop singers who yell and scream instead of sing. Love "last Christmas" a lot as well.  George Michael made that a must.

I'm with you on this.

Very nostalgic kind of guy, I prefer Frank Sinatra, Perry Como and Ella Fitzgerald over any pop princess - I always find them tacky.

I try EVERY Christmas to listen to it but I can't.  I think I have never listened to the whole album

I love the Oleta Adams Christmas album and the Kylie one (minus the classics. You take the tired old classics and you have 18 great tracks).

Christmas albums from the 40’s,  50’s and 60’s are the best (Ella, The Rat Pack, Andrew Sisters, Spector,  Nat King Cole, Vince Guaraldi Trio, Barbra)

No, it's not that bad, only totally forgettable. I still give her points for recording only original songs.

I really love The Carpenter's Christmas Portrait album, Merry Christmas Darling is one of my favourite Xmas songs of all time, the rest of the album is sublime.

Just the fact that the Queen of Angst (with permission of Sinead Oconnor)  Sia has released a Christmas album is the biggest WTF in years.  I can't picture any song bringing cuddling and cozy vibes.

A few of my "must listen to" Christmas songs/albums:

There are a few other non-traditional ones I still enjoy (Cyndi Lauper had a few fun songs on hers).

And I know I probably said this last Christmas, but I simply can't go without this funky little classic from Book Of Love!!!

Sia’s Christmas album to me is like a kids Christmas album of a Sia’s Kidz Bop. I can see my 5 year old niece and nephew LOVING it. It’s extremely cheesy. It took me a few times to get into it but it’s a fun little album in my opinion for what it is.

Lmao, Kidz Bop, I couldn’t believe that’s actually an album when I saw it advertised on TV.
