Your Whitney Houston Top 10

Recommended Posts

She didn't have that many songs to begin with, and some of her biggest hits are covers.

1. "Saving All My Love for You" [original singer: Marilyn McCoo]

2. "Greatest Love of All" [original singer: George Benson]

3. "Dancin' on the Smooth Edge"

4. "It's Not Right But It's Okay" (album version & the incredibly famous remix)

5. "I Belong to You"

6. "Heartbreak Hotel"

7. "One Moment in Time" (live at the 1989 Grammys, couldn't care less for the studio version)

8. "I Love the Lord"

9. "I'm Your Baby Tonight"

10. "You Were Loved"

If I could put one more song: "I'm Every Woman". Or maybe "Step By Step".

"I Wanna Dance with Somebody" can go fuck itself (that 1987 album is a very weak one). "How Will I Know" was more tolerable.

Used to love "Run to You" but now I found it way too sappy.

"I Have Nothing" would ruin a human's vocal organs. And it's not that great of a song.

Out of this world vocalist during the first few years of her career. Very clean, clear voice. But that was it. Never an artist, just a singer. Sometimes her growling does make me cringe. But she got some attitude.

LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE. Watching this even makes me hate her more recent stuff. Fuck that Bodyguard thing or worse, ridiculous shit like "I Learned from the Best" :vomit:

Saving all my love for you has always been my favourite Whitney song. It is flawless.

Saving all my love for you

Love is a contact sport

Moment of truth - should of been on an official album

Step by Step

Miracle

I'm your baby tonight

All at once

How will I know

I'm every woman

Greatest love of all

SAMLFY is a jazz masterpiece disguised as a pop ballad. DON'T MESS WITH IT.

Yes, it was definitely not your typical ballad that the girls with big vocal ranges were singing.  It is a timeless, sensual song that never ages.  I think it was her best vocal interpretation of a song she recorded.

And then we have rather lame screaming songs like "Didn't We Almost Have It All", "I Have Nothing", "Run to You"...umm no it just doesn't compare no thanks.:rotfl:

Yes. I always thought she screamed those songs you mentioned without much feeling.  I will add "All the man I need" to that list too. I think Whiney had one of the most incredible voices ever that was a gift but I did not like some of her huge ballads that others adored.  I also am in the minority who did not love "I will always love you "   Preferred other ballads she sang.

And the finest songs on the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack are the non-Whitney ones. Like "Let It Flow" by Toni Braxton, and "Love Will Be Waiting at Home" by For Real.

A few from her first album.  Never cared for her "dance" tracks, much less her "dancing".  She did (in the beginning) have a nice voice/appearance.  But no control over her personal life.....and at times, too conceited.

Not a huge Whitney fan, but she's got some gems. Never been a fan of 80s AC tracks, so not many ballads appeal to me. If she had made songs out of "Kiss my ass!", "Crack is Whack" and "Receipts" they would have been mega smashes!

In no particular order:

I Wanna Dance with Somebody

Heartbreak Hotel

It's Not Right But It's OK

I Will Always Love You (Dolly's songwriting is so great it must be included)

So Emotional

Exhale (Shoop Shoop) [Shoop!]

My Love Is Your Love

Step By Step

I'm Your Baby Tonight

Queen of the Night (camp explosion in The Bodyguard!)
