Terrorist kills in Melbourne

Recommended Posts

Depressing and horrible day today in my home city Melbourne :gross:  We have a dreadful record of letting dangerous people out on parole. This evil dangerous coward had also been acquitted previously by the supreme court of plotting major terrorism to the dismay of the police.

Brighton siege: Innocent father fatally shot by Yacqub Khayre was recently married

The innocent employee fatally shot during a terror attack at a Melbourne apartment building yesterday has been identified as a father-of-one who recently got married.

The 36-year-old receptionist was "in the wrong place at the wrong time" when siege gunman Yacqub Khayre entered the lobby of the Brighton serviced apartments and opened fire.

Police found the Chinese-born man dead in the foyer of the building after being called just after 4pm yesterday to Bay Street, after initially receiving reports of an explosion.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed Khayre tampered with his GPS ankle bracelet during a terror attack in the affluent Melbourne suburb.

Police are investigating whether the Somalian-born Roxburgh Park man deliberately lured them into a deadly ambush after it was revealed he had booked a female escort, whom he took hostage, and triggered an alert on his tracker.

As Khayre exited the apartment almost two hours later with a sawed-off shotgun, he attempted to shoot officers and tactical operations officers fired back, killing him.

Victoria Police Commissioner Graham Ashton said it was "a possibility" anti-terror police were lured to the apartment by Khayre.

"It's too early to know how random this was, and whether police were the target," he said.

"(There was) certainly a booking made to see an escort at the premises. He's then turned up at the premises with a firearm."

Islamic State (ISIS) have claimed responsibility for the attack by "one of its soldiers" through its Amaq News Agency, although Comm. Ashton said authorities "were not placing too much weight" on ISIS's claims.

One of the officers was shot in the neck, hand and head, while another officer was shot in the hand.

While all the three suffered non-life threatening injures, the officer shot in the hand may be required to have his finger amputated, police said.

The 38-year-old female hostage, who is a Colombian national,  was unharmed.

Victoria Police is treating the attack as a terrorist incident and photos show an evidence bag containing a "hardcover book with Arabic writing" was taken from the apartment.

This morning, police carried out a search of Khayre's mother's home in Roxburgh Park, while the bomb squad searched the Buckingham Serviced Apartments on Bay St in Brighton.

Officers also believe Khayre acted alone.

Khayre had a long criminal history and was in prison for recklessly causing injury in a violent 2012 home invasion where a man was viciously bashed.

He previously faced court over a plot to attack Sydney’s Holsworthy army barracks in 2009 but was acquitted.

Fucked up world we live in....

:/

Thanks.  I am sad and angry that this has happened again.  This man was out on parole, was well known to police and was acquitted previously of plotting to blow up the army barracks in Sydney.   He has a long history of violence, drug charges and assault and arson. I had to work yesterday and was bombarded with abuse from the General Public about why are we letting people out on parole.  They are ringing the wrong people to complain ( emergency services )  but it is the mood of people.  We are so soft on criminals in Australia.  The amount of murders etc done by violent men out on parole or servicing light sentences is staggering.

Well now you all are grieving but in fact it says a lot about Australia that you do that,  because the prison system has to aim for the re-establishment of people into society,  not only punishing.

But it's normal to think it's wrong.  We all do when this happens. But a lot of other people who made harm and mistakes later can become capable and productive citizens after being in prison.

Karbatal,  I totally get what you are saying but these men people are complaining about who are released on bail are evil sadistic people.  They are not run of the mill criminals who have made some mistakes and can be rehabilitated.   They have continued to commit horrific crimes and do so time and time again.  The have murdered women and children brutally.  Been sadistic rapists and child sex abusers.  Others have plotted terrorism plots and spoken proudly of being extremists who want to destroy others who don't have the same beliefs. .  So many innocent Australian people have been murdered by these men who continually commit unspeakable violent crimes.

You are right.

Here in Spain we made an amendment to the Penal Code some years ago and now terrorists cannot get less years for good behaviour in prison.

So maybe those sadists and horrible murders shouldn't get any reduction either.
