Entire U.S. Senate to go to White House for North Korea briefing

Top Trump administration officials will hold a rare briefing on Wednesday at the White House for the entire U.S. Senate on the situation in North Korea, senior Senate aides said on Monday.

All 100 senators have been asked to the White House for the briefing by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the aides said.

While top administration officials routinely travel to Capitol Hill to address members of Congress on foreign policy and national security matters, it is unusual for the entire 100-member Senate to go to such an event at the White House, and for those four top officials to be involved.

U.S. officials have expressed mounting concern over North Korea's nuclear and missile tests, and its threats to attack the United States and its Asian allies.

President Donald Trump criticized North Korea's "continued belligerence" and said its actions were destabilizing during a telephone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday, the White House said.

The briefing will take place at 3 p.m. EDT.

House aides said they were working with the White House to set a similar briefing for members of the House of Representatives.

He's poking around for a war. North Korea would be the. worst option. If he's truly aiming to start popping missles off into the Korean Peninsula, he's even crazier than I ever imagined. The ramifications will be unbearable.

But he's an alpha male. And it's pretty likely to happen. I still say Syria is on the table too.

Doing this to North Korea is like beating up a crazy defenceless person with severe mental problems who just says crazy things.

Someone needs to invade the U.S. They're getting out of control and their people need to be saved.

There is something deeply wrong with the system if a president has to start a war in order to become more presidential in the eyes of the political establishment.

He will not live long anyway and at this point in life he just don't care provoking a little war for self publicity. Trump and the entire US establishment simply don't understand the global consequences of their actions.

What frights the most is that no one in this world can stop the US, there is no balance of powers anymore, they can simply bomb you tomorrow if they feel like it.

Just like the Roman Empire, it will eventually collapse from within if it doesn't destroy the world with it.

Madonna was right with bombing the white house

if the U.S., France, the UK and those handful of evil countries can do it to other countries why can't another country do it to the U.S.? Someone needs to stop them!

China's President Xi Jinping has called for restraint from all parties over US-North Korea tensions during a telephone call with US President Donald Trump.

Trump also held talks with Japan's Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, as two Japanese destroyers joined a US carrier group, which is in the troubled region for war games.

North Korea has test-fired another ballistic missile, South Korean and US military officials say.

The missile exploded shortly after take-off, they said - the second failed launch in the past fortnight.

US President Donald Trump accused North Korea of showing "disrespect" towards China and its president.

The missile was fired from a site in South Pyeongan province, north of Pyongyang, in the early hours of Saturday local time, South Korea said.

Mr Trump tweeted: "North Korea disrespected the wishes of China & its highly respected President when it launched, though unsuccessfully, a missile today. Bad!"

Mr Trump recently hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping and praised his Chinese counterpart for "trying very hard" on North Korea.

The failed launch came just hours after the United Nations Security Council discussed North Korea's missile programme.
