I bought this book today at a newsagent.  It was $24.99 but worth it for the positive write up of Madonna.   I am going to type the article which is worth sharing with super-fans here .

Madonna = The Queen Mother of Cool

Known as the Queen of Pop, Madonna Louise Ciccone has more than lived up to that title, with over 300 million record sales to her credit. But her music is just part of a multifaceted carer that also includes superlative accomplishments as an actress, dancer, record producer, director, children's author and business entrepreneur,

She first came to Manhattan to study dance in 1978, but soon got involved in the city's burgeoning underground music and club scenes. her debut single, "Everybody" was released in 1982 and became a club hit, as did her next few releases. She crossed over into the mainstream in a big way with the title track from her second album. 1984's Like a Virgin, propelled in part by a controversial performance at that year's MTV Music Video Awards.

Rising to fame at the dawn of the music video ear, she embraced the new medium enthusiastically and creatively, crafting eye-catching video clips that incorporated music, dance and fashion.  Her look - a thrift-shop bricolage of lace, bangles and streetwear - become a prominent part of the 80's zeitgeist, copied by young women all over the world. The decades would also see her emergence as a film actress, notably with the 1985 feature Desperately Seeking Susan. Her starring role in the 1996 musical and Eva Peron biopic Evita, was another landmark film performance.

In a pop music career remarkable for it's longevity, Madonna has shown an uncanny ability to move with the times while retaining her core artistic identity and integrity. A keyboardist, guitarist and drummer, as well as a singer, she writes much of her material and has worked with a series of cutting edge producer to keep her music current.

With a particular affinity for pop, dance and club music, she has embraced styles ranging from techno, drum n'bass to new jack swing over the years, adapting their beats and textures to her own aesthetic without slavishly copying them. Both her recordings and technologically ambitious live shows are also notable for their blend of spiritual themes and imagery - particularly drawn from Catholicism and Jewish Kabbalah - with a frank and forthright eroticism.

Madonna has also demonstrated initiative and innovation in the business aspects of her career.  In 1994 she launched her own multifaceted entertainment company called Maverick, with divisions devoted to records, film production, music publishing, television broadcasting, book publishing and merchandising, She has evolved and maintained a truly 360- dergree perspective on both her own career and the entertainment industray as a whole.

Working in media that tend to favour youth,- particularly in female performers - Madonna remains an engaging and thought-proving artist now into the fourth decade of a career that has done much to define our epoch.

Jazzy Jan THANK YOU for inscribing this reflective write-up on our star Madonna. Congrats on purchasing this very magazine which is also featured in select US retail vendors. Seems like a compelling read.

There are so many declensions to appreciate about her which extenuate beyond being an entertainment icon. Grateful to God for placing her on this earth at this time. Thanks to Him she has revolutionized popular culture. She is a consummate blessing to her loved ones; her father, siblings and kids.

She is voluminously enterprising; wearing countless hats.

Would also like to tip hat to fellow contemporaries in this 100 Women Tribute book. It's noble to see women (like M) leave such an indelible legacy on a world in need of reform.

It is so refreshing and lovely to read an article that makes no apologies for praising Madonna.  There was no back handed compliments or swipes, no negative comparisons to other female singers and no putting down her talent.  So rare to read an article on Madonna like that and it felt great !

Agreed TM. It's easy to be a slithering snake... Condescending and manipulative. Kicking someone while he or she is down. Constructive criticism is superior to being outright mean spirited. This doesn't mean you approve of his or her bad behavior; rather help show them a better way. Love is not rude. Love is an action word; not simply a term of endearment.
