It's a class film.

One of the few Madonna films that's flawless.

The screenplay, music, acting, direction.

yes!

I've also read that some of the "older actresses" were original members of the All American Women's Baseball League!

@anastaza  I wanna see pics of you in your peaches uniform!!!

I remember reading that too!  I wonder if any of the original league members are still alive?  If so, would be thrilled if any are able to make it to the event.

And I will take pics of myself in full costume when I'm there! Will post when I return. :)

Geena Davis said they're working on getting Madonna to attend this year's event- good luck with that one. :smiles: (though it would be a nice surprise)

Well I think she just might do it.

I never would of imagined she would go to a Truth or Dare anniversary.

These days she is celebrating everything and I love that!

I love this movie!

"A League of their Own" and "Desperately Seeking Susan" always made me think that M should have pursued more supporting roles as an actress. Other than "Evita" -- which basically one big music video -- she struggled in leading roles. Her body language is awkward, her lines are forced -- she just comes across as if she's too aware of herself on camera.

But all her supporting role turns are fire. She seems so natural in them -- making Geena Davis and Tom Hanks do all the real work to carry the movie, she strolls on camera and steals scene after scene: Smoking a cigarette and making jokes about Rosie / Doris's fat ass, trying to sneak a peek of Tom Hanks / Jimmy's dick while he's peeing (and then timing him!), the swing dance, the confessional ...

Same goes for "DSS." Patricia Arquette does the work to advance the plot, but M strolls on camera and steals every scene -- the bathroom dryer, the cheese curls, dancing in the club ...

Even "Dick Tracy." Beatty and Pacino are two of the greatest actors of all time, but M still manages to steal her scenes from them. This scene is just iconic.

Film critics would be singing her praises if she turned out a few more supporting role spots like these. They're pure gold.

I've always found it funny how much Madonna HATED making this movie (even though she met Rosie there, probably its only saving grace) especially because her performance probably faced the best critically here other than Evita.

I think she was slated to do a larger movie ("Chicago," maybe?) that failed to get off the ground. Whatever the case, she did say during the RHT Chicago stop that she loved the city because she had a great time making "a baseball movie" there.

Agree.  Desperately Seeking Susan - she owned that movie.  Every time she appeared on the screen, she had charisma and star quality to burn. She was beautiful, poignant and sexy in Dick Tracy as well as doing some great musical performances.  Loved her in A League of their own.  Funny, sassy and hilarious.  She was absolutely incredible in Evita but I think she is the best ever at music/acting performances.   I know it sounds like an exaggeration but why I find her the greatest music video performer ever - runs rings around everyone.  Her videos for her music are incredible and she shines in them in every way.  Her musicality sets her free and she is a complete natural.

When Madonna has to fully carry a movie by herself as the lead, her nerves often completely take over.  She is self conscious and terrified looking too often.  We have all seen how nervous she can be at times ( despite being a fearless and brave person )  I think there has always been too much pressure when she has lead roles.  Plus, she has never had a lot of acting/drama training.   The exception is Dangerous Game where she completely nailed it to perfection.

July 1, 1992 one of Madonna's very best films, with the richest ensemble, a phenomenal original song and her highest grossing film to boot!

Give it up for this classic and "All the Way" Mae!

Not only one of Madonna's best films, but one of my personal favorites overall.

Great story, great cast, great design, phenomenal score...and a Madonna classic as theme song.

Happy anniversary!

That's US box office.

Whereas for worldwide box office, Evita(141m) is still behind Die Another Day(431m) & Dick Tracy(162m). ALOTO is 132m.

The rest of the movies' ww gross were not available except TNBT(24m) & TOD(29m), therefore it's not feasible to post ww gross.
