France President Emmanuel Macron

People are stupid. I'm so fed up with hearing the same bullshit every day. They probably don't care to wake up in a dictatorship because they are not directly concerned by her racist project but soon enough they'll be on her list for one reason or another. It's sad to see a country that was devastated by nazis being incapable to connect to its History...or maybe they connect to collaborators.

I remember reading a long time ago when Ted Turner was asked why he created CNN, he said "so we will never be able to say we didn't know again" ( a direct nod to WWII). We don't have the excuse of not knowing.

What's the deal with people around the world ? They can't stand being "invaded" by the people from coutries THEY invaded first to build their empire and richessness ? They vote Le Pen because they can't stand the black kids next door making too much noise ? Because they can't deal with women wearing a veil ? They are willing to say goodbye to everything they have to get rid of them ? I thought France stood for Republic, Democracy, Human Rights, that's the bulshit i've been taught in school all these years. Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité. That's our identity, not Le Pen's politics. It goes against everything that people identify our country with.

Have been having nightmares with that cunt for two nights in a row and i'm scared my terrible nights will transform into terrible days.

Oh my...I ALSO had very similar 'nightmares' months before of Trump winning. They included his horror show team- Bannon, Guiliani etc etc..Was so vivid and ended up reality! My gut was telling me something :/

His campaign this last week was awful. He's too sure of himself. She avoids economic questions because she can't answer them, she's even backtracking about the euro when it was a major part of her program.

It's so stressful.

To a f'king TEE this is what happened with Trump and Clinton. Same exact playbook, same 'strategy', same mistakes- different set of characters and solid chance same dreadful result.

:imsad: If a country like yours where history is such an intrinsic element of its essence is not able to remember his past mistakes so as not to repeat them in his present, we are all fucked. In Canada, we have no understanding of our history, and we still do not learn any of the important lessons to remembers from it. How will we be able as a community to prevent those extremist politicians from reaching power when it will be our turn to face this situation (because that moment will come sooner or later)?

So true! But UNLIKE Trump the result would lead to irreparable consequences: brake up of EU.

No contry is nowadays aware of history, hard-earned rights, etc. I almost fear a domino process with other countries going the same route.

The debate is on tv right now. She speaks so loudly she gave me a headache. She does not have a program, still has not given one valid point or answer. She's tiring and terribly bad.

As usual. Everything about this woman sounds false and not sincere. I detest her with passion. There is nothing worse than the extreme right that disguises itself in presentable clothes in order to look respectable. They believe us too stupid to realize that this is the same racist and intolerant shit they have always offered.

Macron, Le Pen Clash in Bad-Tempered French Pre-Election TV Showdown

PARIS — Far-right candidate Marine Le Pen and centrist Emmanuel Macron clashed over their vision of France's future and ways of handling terrorism in an ill-tempered televised debate on Wednesday ahead of Sunday's run-off vote for the presidency.

The two went into the debate with opinion polls showing Macron, 39, maintaining a strong lead of 20 percentage points over the National Front's Le Pen, 48, in what is widely seen as France's most important election in decades.

For Le Pen, the debate, watched by millions, was a last major chance to persuade voters of the merits of her program which includes cracking down on illegal immigration and ditching the euro currency.

In angry exchanges, Le Pen played up Macron's background as a former investment banker and economy minister, painting him as a continuation of the outgoing unpopular Socialist government and a backer of rampant globalization. He accused her of not offering solutions to problems such as France's chronic unemployment.

But the sharpest exchange was over national security, a sensitive issue in a country where more than 230 people have been killed by Islamist militants since 2015.

Le Pen accused Macron of being complacent in confronting the threat of Islamist fundamentalism. "You have no plan (on security) but you are indulgent with Islamist fundamentalism," she said.

Macron retorted that terrorism would be his priority if he is elected and accused Le Pen of being simplistic. "What you are proposing is snake oil," he said, referring to her proposals to close France's borders.

"I will lead a fight against Islamist terrorism at every level. But what they are wanting, the trap they are holding out for us, is the one that you offer - civil war," he said..

"Globalization Gone Wild"

Le Pen labeled Macron a "smirking banker" and said he represented unfettered globalization.

"Mr. Macron is the candidate of globalization gone wild, of Uberisation, of precariousness, of social brutality, of war by everybody against everybody ... of the butchering of France by big economic interests," she said, referring to the gig economy typified by U.S. app-based cab service Uber.

Macron hit back by calling Le Pen a liar, saying she was talking nonsense and that her rhetoric lacked substance.

On unemployment, Macron told Le Pen: "Your strategy is simply to tell a lot of lies and just to say what isn't going right in the country."

The two candidates, seated opposite one another at a table in the television studios, mapped out diametrically opposed visions for France. Macron calls for liberal reforms to kickstart the French economy, while Le Pen rails against the loss of French jobs through off-shoring and would adopt protectionist trade measures.

Macron finished only three points ahead of Le Pen in the first round on April 23, but he is widely expected now to pick up the bulk of votes from the Socialists and the centre-right whose candidates were eliminated.

Though Le Pen has a mountain to climb, the campaign has been packed with surprises.

Upwards of 20 million viewers out of an electorate of close to 47 million were expected to tune in to the two-and-a-half hour debate.

So true but this election is a real worry.  For many reasons.  After reading how she is talking about Macron and concentrating on him being a banker etc is similar to the whole Trump situation.  When watching the debates between Hillary Clinton and Trump,  I thought that no body could want to vote for Trump.  He prowled around like a crazy aggressive idiot and spoke dreadfully.   He kept attacking Hillary and giving no reasonable or concrete policies of his own on how he could fix things. I think she thought that people would see through him and not vote but he kept talking of draining the swamp and basically pounced on people's fatigue with politics in general and their annoyance at corporations and financiers calling the shots.  Ironic considering Trump is one himself -  a billionaire who has always favoured share holders and corporates over workers and got into bed with likes of Pence and the religious right for his own gain.

I hope this will not happen here but I wish that there was a different opponent.  The world needs people to not be afraid of standing up for what they believe in and offer a concrete and real alternative.  I think that people would have seen what has happened in the USA and with Brexit to be aware but the world seems on a knife edge at the moment with political decisions.   It is time we really had brave people willing to fight the extreme right wing trend and expose those leaders for exactly what they are.  It is not the time for moderate opposition who just please the status quo.

When I wrote that she did not fool us, I meant people who understand the issues involved and understand the consequences of putting in place dangerous politicians on the flick of the anger, politicians who will all destroy in their path . Unfortunately, the poor and frustrated citizen does not understand the issues at stake (and no one explains them to him) because he sees only his own difficult situation. The populism of its politicians convoys these citizens because it identifies the supposed culprits: immigrants, bankers, intellectuals, elites, artists ... What they do not realize is that their situation will be even more miserable eventually with these politicians. Yes, it is unfortunately the resumption of the American election and the conclusion is likely to be the same. Absention will probably give Le Pen the victory.

Yes, so true Martin B.   Also the way that these right wing racists who run for power know how to pounce on issues and fool some people on how dreadful they are and what they really stand for is frightening. People just don't learn from history.

I love making up conspiracy theories and the fact that suddenly there's a problem with Trump and NATO and the EU and Putin are getting nearer again makes you wonder if Le Pen is no longer necessary.

They are saving face. I don't like Russian politics (except for the fact that they are the only ones capable of stoping USA voracity), but we need Russia as an ally in the EU, especially with Trump being stupid and the UK being mongs. And we need them more than ever for our economics. Merkel knows.

I d love nothing more than friendly EU and Russia, but Putin backs antiEU forces all the way, cause he wants weak eauropean countries - divided and easy to control. He seem to hate everything EU represent - Chechnya being the latest example... he has to change a lot for EU to start trusting him.

We are making business with China and Bangladesh and all those country where people are dying in toxic factories and children work and die of exahustion. I do wonder why should we be bothered of having Russia as ally.

I wish we could block every country that doesn't respect human rights, from Arabia Saudi to Turkey, from Morocco to Russia, to China... But some seem to be the Gagas of the world, with no bad press, and others get all the sanctions.

That's true and in reality Saudi Arabia is the first one that has to be pressed on Human Rights. The difference is Russia is an empire and has a seat on security council in UN and as a whole has much more power than those mentioned.

Macron will win, but unless he actually does something big in the next five years (Which he probably won't) then THAT'S when Le Pen or her successor will sneak their way in. We've only seen the tip of the right-wing iceberg looming in front of us all. Trust.

Truth. And it's global. Putin is slowly building up his world war. Wars won't stop because Macron is elected. Wars will go on in the middle east, Africa etc..displacing millions of people who will try to find shelter in Europe making populism rise more and more fueled also by job cuts, pensions cuts etc...

His team already issued a statement claiming this is normal stuff and that some documents are fake. Just a few minutes before the campaign is closed befote vote on Sunday.

How convenient, especially how much there is to read for very little interesting informations.

Unfortunately the problem is not merely Putin these days. He is not the only one going out of their way to build up the premise for another global conflict. The US government has been conducting a very aggressive, arrogant and dishonest campaign on multiple fronts for years if not decades now, destabilising South American countries (as they have always done throughout the entire 20th century with the full blessing of the Vatican and its interests), looking at Middle Eastern assets with preying eyes etc  9/11 and its murky background gave US administrations the excuse to wade into so many scenarios all over the world with complete unaccountability. Let's not even talk about Israel and its dictatorial ways and pronouncements. Holding the entire region ransom basically and constantly blackmailing the US

Being confrontational to Iran and Sirya (one of the few Muslim countries where Christians are extremely respected) while closing 10 eyes on the mess of countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey. It just makes zero sense unless we stop thinking the real reasons behind all of the mess of today stem out of a desire "to protect human rights" or "to export democracy", which, in the latter case, even admitting and conceding it was based on genuine intentions it is simply unattainable and illogical
