Trump issues new travel ban for 6 Muslim-majority countries, excludes Iraq

President Donald Trump has issued a new executive order, temporarily blocking travel to the US for residents of six Muslim-majority countries pending revision of visa procedures. The previous travel ban, issued in January, was blocked in federal courts.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the new executive order to reporters on Monday.

The order halts the issuance of new US visas to citizens of Iran, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen for the next 90 days.

Iraq, which was included in the January ban, was left off the list this time after the government in Baghdad agreed to increase cooperation with the US on background checks for its citizens applying for visas, AP reported.

Iraqi Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Jamal called the decision “an important step in the right direction” that “consolidates the strategic alliance between Baghdad and Washington in many fields, and at their forefront the war on terrorism.”

Tillerson thanked the government in Baghdad for working with the State Department on improving vetting, and called the order “a vital measure for protecting our national security.”

The new order also imposes a 120-day halt on refugee admissions from the six countries. Legal permanent residents (‘Green Card’ holders) from the countries will not be affected, however, Reuters reported citing a fact sheet supplied by the administration.

“Nothing in this executive order affects existing lawful permanent residents,” Kelly said.

Trump’s senior aide Kellyanne Conway provided confirmation in an interview with Fox News on Monday.

“If you have travel docs, if you actually have a visa, if you are a legal permanent resident, you are not covered under this particular executive action,” Conway said, adding that the new order will go into effect on March 16.

The new order also includes exemptions such as business or medical travel and gives room for waivers on a case-by-case basis.

In the 90-day review period, Homeland Security is supposed to define a new set of requirements for travel to the US, and recommend restrictions for countries that do not comply.

“Like every nation, the US has a right to control who enters our country and to keep out those who would do us harm,” said Sessions, adding that the Department of Justice regards the new executive order as “a lawful and proper exercise of presidential authority” and will both enforce and defend it.

Personally I think this toxic way politicians now speak to each other started with Sarah Palin.  She polluted the discourse in a way I have never seen in my lifetime and with Trump it has only gotten worse.

That's an interesting observation, and yes, Ms. Palin deserves credit for denigrating the political discourse, but I don't think she really started firing off her cannons until AFTER Obama was elected. McCain kept her in shackles and after they lost, she truly became unhinged. BUT, most of the republican party as whole just lost their shit over his election and a shocking percentage of them believed the most batshit crazy conspiracy theories:

He wasn't born here. He's Kenyan. He's Muslim. The whole 'terrorist' fist bump. The death panels, The socialism.

They fed this to the idiots in rural America who gorged themselves on Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, and Hannity for 8 years. And when Trump was willing to actually SAY this shit out loud on the campaign, they flocked to him like the paranoid sheep they are. They didn't give a fuck what he said, what he did, if was true. They didn't care. They just wanted the exact opposite of Obama to say FUCK YOU to  the Kenyan terrorist Muslim and all the 'elites' in big cities.

And they continue to believe whatever he tweets. No evidence? No problem. Obama wiretapped Trump tower? Yep. Trump said it, so it must be true. Trump isn't as stupid as we think. He knew by dragging Obama into this Russian mess that it'd fire up his core supporters. And it has. The above talk radio names are spreading this like wildfire. It's one of the most dangerous things I've ever witnessed in American politics. You can't fight these people with logic or reason, because they don't care. They're driven by a maddening hatred of the left and especially Obama.

The only hope is to marginalize them into a minority. Which they already are, but like minded conservatives are STILL willing to look away in order to get their agenda through congress. Yes, that makes them spineless, withering, cowards. But they know full well this madman is an albatross around their necks. This whole wiretapping shitstorm is a bridge to far for many level headed conservatives though. And I think if he keeps this up, you're going to begin to see more and more peel away.

Exactly.  I am NOT referring to all conspiracy theories as believe a lot are true or have truth to them.  However, have seen people disbelieve everything that is told to them via mainstream media even if there is footage and complete proof of it.   Yet they will believe insane theories that actually go against everything they once stood for.  People that once wanted to preserve the environment, now would rather believe that ALL scientists lie and agree with the theories of people who work for Oil companies etc.  They go against everything that the media report and these people I know personally are all huge Trump supporters and now Pauline Hanson supporters.  They think Trump is being brave and exposing "the media"  and don't even care that he keeps changing his views and back tracks all the time.

I really think the tax returns and conflict of interest issues are the best means of revealing both the Russian connections and Trumps fake credentials.....if only the media could focus and not be so easily distracted by every little twit he makes

On CNN they have a new blonde bimbo. A psychologist, an expert in body language, from San Diego. Now that's a dumb cow. One of those who can't answer a question straight, pivoting just as professional as Conway. She is seriously annoying. Another guest on the panel was asked if he wants to reply to what she said and he just said, he does not reply to nonsense.

But will CNN ever learn? If you want people on the panel, get politicians and historians. But no more pundits. They are a waste of time.

Ivanka an exception to Trump's 'buy American' pledge

BEIJING – In his January inauguration speech, US President Donald Trump made a seemingly straightforward pledge: "We will follow two simple rules: buy American and hire American".

His daughter is the exception: even as he spoke, at least eight shipments of Ivanka Trump-branded shoes, bags and clothes – more than 53,5 tons – were steaming towards American ports from China, according to US Customs bills of lading examined by AFP.

Trump uses his presidential pulpit to censure manufacturers – both domestic and foreign – for using overseas labour to make goods for American consumers, but the Ivanka-branded orders have kept rolling in.

More than two tons of ladies' polyester woven blouses, 1,600 cowhide leather wallets and 23 tons of made-in-China footwear were among at least 82 such shipments that passed US Customs – almost one per business day – from Trump's November 8 election win through February 26, records showed.

The goods were made in China by three US companies holding licences to manufacture products for Ivanka Trump's fashion line: garment maker G-III, Mondani Handbags and Marc Fisher Footwear.

Marc Fisher told AFP it had no comment, while the others did not respond to requests.

The first daughter's business has come under scrutiny since major US department store chain Nordstrom announced in February it would stop carrying her products, citing poor sales.

That provoked a scathing attack from Trump and his advisers and even prompted senior counsellor Kellyanne Conway to urge Americans to go out and buy his daughter's products.

The Washington Post reported this week that many had done just that, with February proving a banner month for the brand, in terms of sales.

'Very hypocritical'

More than 1,200 shipments of Trump-branded products have flowed into the US from China and Hong Kong over the past decade, according to an examination of US import data last year by anti-Trump political action committee Our Principles PAC.

During his campaign, Trump defended the licensing of the Trump name for goods made in China – from shoes to ties to dress shirts – as "smart" business.

But at the same time he frequently accused China of stealing US jobs through unfair trade practices and currency manipulation, while also slamming US firms such as Ford and Nabisco for off-shoring.

Trump's silence and slowness to condemn the constant racist rants like this whether it's from Republican politicians or those idiot voters at his rallies says a lot

Rep. Steve King says he wants to see a ‘homogenous’ America

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) went on CNN Monday morning to defend his latest comment that has been widely seen as racist — and ended up dropping a whole lot more of them.

In the course of a five-minute interview, King refused repeated questions on whether he views all Americans as equal, said “certain groups of people” contribute less to society, and admitted he hopes to see “an America that's just so homogenous that we look a lot the same.”

King appeared on air to discuss a tweet from Sunday that endorsed the anti-Islamic views of Geert Wilders, a far-right prime minister candidate in the Netherlands who is sometimes called the “Dutch Donald Trump.”

King wrote, “Wilders understands that culture and demographics are our destiny. We can't restore our civilization with somebody else's babies.”

As is his custom, King only doubled down on his comments when pressed about them.

“Well, of course I meant exactly what I said, as is always the case,” King told CNN’s Chris Cuomo about the tweet.

He soon shifted to abortion, claiming the rate of aborted babies has been so high in America that “we’re going to have to replace that void with somebody else’s babies.”

“And that’s that push to bring in much illegal immigration into America, living in enclaves, refusing to assimilate into the American culture and civilization,” King said.

King dodged Cuomo’s attempts through the interview to drill down whether he supports multiculturalism and if he believes all Americans — regardless of race — should be considered equal.

Instead, King laid out a very different vision for his America.

“If you go down the road a few generations or maybe centuries with the intermarriage, I’d like to see an America that’s just so homogenous that we look a lot the same from that perspective,” he said.

“I think there’s been far too much focus on race, especially in the last eight years. And I want to see that put behind us.”

Trying to hammer home that point, King concluded by arguing that “the culture, not the blood” determines how successful Americans will be, and that the ones raised in “households that are already assimilated into America” stand the best chance of success.

“Certain groups of people will do more from a productive side than other groups of people will,” King said.

“That’s just a statistical fact.”

The newest comments drew outrage even from King's fellow Republicans.

"America is a nation of immigrants. The sentiment expressed by Steve King doesn't reflect our shared history or values," former Florida governor and presidential candidate Jeb Bush tweeted after the interview.

The White House has kept silent about King. Press Secretary Sean Spicer told reporters Monday he would "touch base with the President" about the Iowa lawmaker and "get back to you on that."

Heaven forbid, what vile racist comments.  Scary that anyone who thinks and talks like that has any political standing or can use the political platform to give such horrible views.

High school kids spark anger with ‘Straight Pride’ plans

High school kids in Indiana are attempting to celebrate ‘Straight Pride’.

The controversy unfurled at Jasper High School in Jasper, Indiana when signs were put up advertising ‘Straight Pride’.

The posters say: “Celebrate being straight at JHS by not annoying the heck out of everyone about your sexual orientation! We are taking back the rainbow.”

“It is easy! Just come to the JHS, then you go about your day without telling everyone about how different and special you are!

“Brought to you by all the students that are sick of hearing about your LGBT pride. Nobody cares about what you think you are.

“If you want equality, stop shoving your ideas down our throats! We have nothing against your sexual orientation. We just don’t care!”

A 16-year-old student admitted putting up the posters, telling the Dubois County Herald he wanted the school to “recognize the straight community with equal enthusiasm as the LGBT community”.

He admitted the poster were intended to “send a message” to the LGBT community, claiming that “equality is not effectively found in granting special privileges to minorities by differentiating them from our great society.”

The student added: “The social liberal ideology stands for equality and incorporation into society and yet establishes safe spaces for isolation.”

The school has since pulled down the posters.

The principal declined to comment, but Superintendent Tracy Lorey told the Washington Times: “It is our intent to provide students opportunities to express themselves in a way that helps them to be understanding of the unique qualities of all individuals.

“The world is full of unique individuals (regardless of) race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation. That’s the world, and it’s our job to prepare students to function within that world and to have respect for others.”

The school’s gay-straight alliance also decided to carry on promoting equality and acceptance regardless.

Over the weekend, about 40 students gathered to decorate the school’s main entrance with rainbow chalk artwork and LGBT affirming messages.

Nevada politician wants to ban ‘gay cure’ therapy

An out gay legislator in the US state of Nevada wants to ban licensed therapists from ‘gay cure’ therapy.

Senator David Parks of Las Vegas has introduced a bill to outlaw the widely condemned practice.

Senate Bill 201 would concern psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, family therapists and other clinical counsellors.

It would stop short of banning religious ‘counsellors’ like pastors from attempting to ‘cure’ the sexual orientation of a person.

Those opposed to the bill on Monday argued that adults and the parents of gay children should be allowed to opt-in to the practice if they so wish.

But, along the lines of many major medical bodies, Senator Parks argues that the practice can be harmful to recipients.

Five US states have already banned the practice, California, New Jersey, Oregon, Illinois and Vermont, as well as the District of Columbia.

Cincinnati, Ohio is the only other city to specifically ban the practice joined by Seattle in November 2016. Hawaii also introduced legislation to ban the practice in 2016.

The controversial practice seeks to change the sexual orientation or gender identity of an individual.

It has been widely disproven, particularly by most major medical bodies. The American Psychological Association has stated that the practice can be damaging, and can lead to depression, suicidal thoughts and substance abuse.

Lawyers from the Liberty Counsel, who defended Kim Davis the clerk who refused to marry gay couples, said they would sue Palm Springs if the county moves to ban gay ‘cure’ therapies.

^ This thing is getting more and more embarrassing by the minute. Did anyone see that horrible Spicer guy trying to explain what Trump actually meant? They do really believe people are stupid, don't they?

No, they don't think they're stupid. They KNOW they're stupid. And maybe they're not ALL stupid, but anyone who believes this is wildly misinformed on such a dangerous level. This administration knows exactly what's it doing when it sends the KellyAnn's, Stephen Miller's, Reince's. They're blatantly pandering the to Hannity and Limbaugh listening trolls who will NEVER believe anything from any other news source.

They've found a way to heard just about all of the uneducated, ignorant, sons of bitches we have in this country. And it's quite remarkable when you think of it.
