All of this hoopla ultimately will only undermine the already frail credibility of the American media. It is alarming. The timing is once again suspect. I don't know if it is real or fake at this point to be honest. And I at least try to be well informed, the masses will just pick a side. The loser is the press. Why can't we have a single news outlet in America that doesn't reek of bias from either side of the political spectrum??

The US media created him and now it can't control IT.

The mainstream media has assaulted Trump with so much highly questionable "facts" or slanted "news" that people are beginning to assume that anything even remotely negative about Trump is completely false. This is very dangerous. At some point they might get something right and nobody will believe them...

Bingo!

BuzzFeed's decision to publish unverified memos alleging that Russian operatives have compromising personal and financial information about President-elect Donald Trump has set off a fierce debate about the ethics of the decision and the responsibilities of journalists.

On Tuesday night, BuzzFeed published a 35 page document compiled by a former British intelligence operative. That publication came shortly after CNN revealed that a two-page synopsis of the document's contents had been included as an annex in the classified materials presented last week to Trump and to President Obama. Among other things, the document -- which is a compilation of memos prepared by the former operative -- describes Russians who allegedly gave information about Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to the former operative.

But while CNN and other outlets did not publish specific details from the memos because they could not be independently verified, BuzzFeed published the memos in full. (After BuzzFeed's publication of the memos, The New York Times added some of the allegations contained in them to its article on the subject.)

"The dossier, which is a collection of memos written over a period of months, includes specific, unverified, and potentially unverifiable allegations of contact between Trump aides and Russian operatives, and graphic claims of sexual acts documented by the Russians," the BuzzFeed article accompanying the document states.

"BuzzFeed News is publishing the full document so that Americans can make up their own minds about allegations about the president-elect that have circulated at the highest levels of the US government," it continues.

The publication of the memos was immediately criticized by other journalists, including some who were concerned that BuzzFeed's decision to run the unverified documents would give Trump an opening to dismiss all questions about this information entirely.

"Don't know about ethics, but now Trump has easy out," tweeted Mark Horowitz, a veteran journalist who has worked at The New York Times. "Respond fiercely to sketchy BuzzFeed leak, not serious CNN story."

"On Twitter, unverified info in a memo is crowding out this quite solid reporting by CNN," New York magazine's Jonathan Chait observed.

"This seems preposterous, appalling, opportunistic, and lacking in basic ethics at every level," media columnist Michael Wolff wrote. "Ethics are simple: you shouldn't publish what you don't know to be true."

In a memo to his staff, BuzzFeed editor-in-chief Ben Smith explained that he decided to publish the memos because BuzzFeed's "presumption is to be transparent in our journalism and to share what we have with our readers."

Indeed, minutes later Trump sent out the following tweet: "FAKE NEWS - A TOTAL POLITICAL WITCH HUNT!" Later, he tweeted out an article from the sympathetic conservative website Lifezette about the publication, adding part of the headline, "'BuzzFeed Runs Unverifiable Trump-Russia Claims' #FakeNews"

WikiLeaks, which recently has been in lockstep with the president-elect in criticizing American media, also dismissed the memos: "35 page PDF published by Buzzfeed on Trump is not an intelligence report," the organization tweeted. "Style, facts & dates show no credibility."

Michael Cohen, a lawyer for Trump, also dismissed a portion of the memos alleging that he had secretly met with Kremlin officials in Prague in August 2016.

"I have never been to Prague in my life," Cohen tweeted.

In a phone call with CNNMoney, Cohen said he had never been to Prague, and said that during the month of August he was in New York and Los Angeles.

When asked if he intended to take any action against BuzzFeed over their report, he said, "I'll take it under advisement."

In an interview, Smith told CNNMoney that BuzzFeed had a reporter in Prague and did try to independently confirm Cohen had been there. However, Smith declined to respond to Cohen's claim that he had never visited the city.

Regardless of the veracity of the memos, within minutes of BuzzFeed's publication of it, some of the more colorful details were already trending on Twitter.

Both sides have used fake news. But ultimately what is destroying the credibility of journalism are these faux news outlets (on both sides of the political spectrum) and the so-called "serious" media that gives them airtime.

FAux news are easily spread now and they are very dangerous. Countries like Germany are alarmed at how they affect population in terms of racism, for example, and asking for some control. That's why Google, Facebook and Twitter agreed last december to work against sites which replicate them. This case is different, though. This is some stupid forum and some stupid news retail believing them. When things like these happen, i do wonder if any citizen will ever realize how important is that journalists aren't overworked and are skillful enough to work in the media. You people can't believe how low salaries and the amount of work that journalists have right now. You simply don't have time to know if it's fake or not, especially if CNN or NYT publish that in their webpages, then you run and publish too. This early morning while I was having breakfast, TVE, the public Spanish television, was reporting about this sexual scandal. They believed the story!

The memos had been circulating with news agencies for a long time but sources and claims were still being investigated so nobody wanted to publish them. I wish Buzzfeed would have waited, but I can't help but feel they have enough to believe that at least some of the things in the memos can substantiated, otherwise they risk their entire reputation like you guys said.

Trump called CNN fake news and then took a question from Breitbart. What a nightmare

Actually, do watch it. I don't think it was bad, per se. He said absolutely nothing concrete, a lot of empty promises, like always. But for the good of the American people, I do hope he keeps those promises or at least tries really hard.

What makes me nervous is that he said his team thought about just letting Obamacare implode, but no, they decided to do the right thing and fix it. Basically, his team actually thought at one point that it'd be a good plan to allow Obamacare to implode just to prove a point to the Democrats. That's fucking scary. His team is okay with allowing people to suffer, potentially die, just to prove a point and at the end say SEE I TOLD YOU SO.

So the Russians started collecting dirt on Trump knowing IN FIVE YEARS he would enter the presidential race, win the primary against all odds, AND have a shot at the presidency against even greater odds, so they could blackmail him into doing what they want. Also in exchange for not leaking the ''piss party'' dirt they also hacked the DNC to help Trump win.

That's not exactly what the memo says. The Russians didn't put all their eggs in one basket with Trump.

Oh Goodness, why does everyone get distracted by shit ALL THE TIME. Who the fuck cares if it's real or not. He just had a press conference and everyone's just worried about whether some prostitute pissed on him or not.

And why in the world would Buzzfeed NOT release an article that basically says "hey, here's the 35 page unverified document that everyone's talking about and that was even sent to the U.S. intelligence team and Trump's team." Why would they NOT report on that?

1. Everyone jumped on the unverified story of Clinton suffering from debilitating seizures, including Trump's team. That was perfectly fine.

2. Trump singlehandedly spread the story of Obama not being born in America, which Fox News reported on. 100% unverified. That's perfectly fine.

Republicans are the fucking worst. I hope his entire time in office is spent fighting off ridiculous rumors. Karma is a bitch, Trump.

The Clinton campaign STARTED the 'birther movement'. Manager was later fired. To save face of course.

Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle admitted on Twitter and in a cable interview Friday that a Clinton staffer had indeed spread the rumor that President Barack Obama was born outside of the United States.

The admission came after a heated exchange Friday afternoon with Ari Fleischer, George W. Bush’s former spokesman, who was pressing Ms. Doyle for the truth that Mrs. Clinton’s 2008 campaign was responsible for creating a whisper campaign in the press that Mr. Obama was ineligible for the presidency.

Ms. Doyle told Mr. Feischer it was a “lie” that the campaign spread the rumors, but then admitted in the same tweet a 2008 staffer had indeed sent an email spreading the birther conspiracy.

I wouldn't say everyone is just worried about the piss. It's just that it's such an easy thing to joke about so it's everywhere. The real worry is the other stuff that the report claimed.

They wouldn't release it because it's unsubstantiated. They could have said that the report existed without publishing details before anything is properly vetted. But like I said, I think they have to believe at least some of it can be verified.

Seriously, this disgusting man OF ALL PEOPLE has the audacity to be offended by "unverified" rumors. Give me a fucking break. If I had a dime for every rumor every major media reported on concerning Obama I'd be a millionaire. Now NOTHING can be said about Trump? Grow a fucking pair and get the fuck off of Twitter.

Oh, and all of this in the middle of a press conference. Is anyone talking about his long list of empty promises? No, they're talking about evil Buzzfeed and their mean article about a prostitute peeing on him. The U.S. never learns.
