I think a lot of people might "pretend" to like Trump because they hate America or the West in general. In fact ISIS was extremely happy when Brexit came to be and they were also very happy when Trump won the election. I think ISIS or any other anti West organisation loves it when panic and division and any sort of clonflics happen in our democracies because they want to destroy them. That's why they use terrorism to create panic and confusion and fear in our societies. A lot of people unwillingly have fallen into the trap of that fear and they very possibly voted for Trump and Brexit because they seemed to be the only solutions to stop terrorism.

And listen my friend I am not so cynical to go as far as to say every Trump voter or supporter is racist but what alternative can you give? We have all heard him say racist things during his campaign. I can give people the benefit of the doubt but in the end wouldnt you at least question your reason or your integrity before picking a particular candidate? All in all a lot of his supporters didn't act nice during his campaign rallies. He didn't berate them at all but he actually stood by them pumping up their egos in the process. If a US candidate deliberately spread a racist agenda how can we even discuss hate crimes with a racial background?

Its not about believing Hillary is the angel sent from God and Trump is Satan on earth. I'm not that shallow lol I think they both belong to the same corrupted system. But Hillary was truly the lesser evil. That's always been my point. Trump is opportunistic, a megalomaniac with little knowledge of what's going in the real world. He asserted himself as a people man... I mean is that a joke? He lives in a golden palace for crying out loud. He's a billionaire with no particular political or diplomatic skill. His tweets disasters are a testament to that. He comes across so arrogant with little understanding for the most mundane things. He truly believes he's some God and everybody should just be in awe of him. There's no way people can possibly accept this man as a US president. The first thing a president should have is humanity. Because that's what makes a man or a woman in that respect in the first place. Now now does Trump come across as a man with humanity?

Where are you getting this ISIS (ISHIT) was happy when Trump won?

And well, sorry, but I do like to listen to peoples reasoning without shouting them down as racist, self loathing or ignorant. For instance, had I not bothered to look into it, I wouldn't have known that The Cubans 4 Trump liked Trump because they have a deep rooted loathing of communism, not because they are self hating minorities, quite the opposite frankly. Not everyone follows the mainstream narrative, maybe they saw something in who they voted for, whether we like it or not.
In my personal view, we shouldn't presume things about minorities and their vote, as if they are all one people who should share the same thought pattern. They have a right to vote for who they want to without being labelled. There are middle easterns who are thankful Hilary didn't get in, and those who think both Hilary & Trump are equally worse so shrug it off. There are also Christians (and atheists) in the middle east, something the west tends to forget and I did hear about a few of those who voted or supported Trump from far away lands. Why do you think that is? lol, They are a minority in a minority! How dare they! In my view you can't just presume everyone who voted is racist or dumb or self loathing, there are reasons beyond that and it's not as simple as Hilary = Good, Trump = Bad. The media tells us Trump is Hitler 2.0, but there are many other outlets out there, like even Trump's own live streams that people have been watching rather than the television. I think that's important to note too, the sources people use for their reasoning. Also, go and look at Trump's facebook page now and then, there are people from countries you probably can't even pronounce who are singing his praises. It's crazy when you think about the mainstream narrative, but the internet has really proven that the world is not simply black or white. But then again you've already said you have no interest in hearing other points of view or trying to understand so my post is a waste of typing. :p  doh!

You can't call them racist or seaf loathing but you can certainly call them ignorant. Cubans4Trump love trump because they're anti communism and trump spoke tough on Cuba. It's ignorant not to have bothered to do the research and realise that what Trump was saying was just words and that he had secretly done business and suportered a communist regime while Obama and Hillary were working on tough sanctions because of their humans rights violations. That's Ignorance and every example you provided after that cuban example is a product of ignorance. I'm sorry but voters have a responsibility to know or learn the facts before they vote. If they fail to do that, they'll be labeled. You can't proudly fly your trump flag and then expect others not to part take in the same freedom and not call you an idiot.

FYI: Not all forms of racism are intentional acts. For many folks racism has been intertwined interally and they don't even realise their actions are racist. Trump aligns himself with white supremacists, he aligns himself with the KKK, he regularly makes discriminatory comments toward people because of their ethnicity so I'm sorry, it doesn't matter what ridiculous ignorant personal reasons a person has to vote for him, when you're with the party of trump you align yourself with those values. It's a racist action.

Apparently what America needs is more gun silencers... never mind the occasional mass shootings across the nation:

Gun silencers are hard to buy. Donald Trump Jr. and silencer makers want to change that.

The federal government has strictly limited the sale of firearm silencers for as long as James Bond and big-screen gangsters have used them to discreetly shoot enemies between the eyes.

Now the gun industry, which for decades has complained about the restrictions, is pursuing new legislation to make silencers easier to buy, and a key backer is Donald Trump Jr., an avid hunter and the oldest son of the president-elect, who campaigned as a friend of the gun industry.

The legislation stalled in Congress last year. But with Republicans in charge of the House and Senate and the elder Trump moving into the White House, gun rights advocates are excited about its prospects this year.

They hope to position the bill the same way this time — not as a Second Amendment issue, but as a public-health effort to safeguard the eardrums of the nation’s 55 million gun owners. They even named it the Hearing Protection Act. It would end treating silencers as the same category as machine guns and grenades, thus eliminating a $200 tax and a nine-month approval process.

“It’s about safety,” Trump Jr. explained in a September video interview with the founder of SilencerCo, a Utah silencer manufacturer. “It’s a health issue, frankly.”

Violence prevention advocates are outraged that the industry is trying to ease silencer restrictions by linking the issue to the eardrums of gun owners. They argue the legislation will make it easier for criminals and potential mass shooters to obtain devices to conceal attacks.

“They want the general public to think it’s about hearing aids or something,” said Kristen Rand, the legislative director of the Violence Policy Center. “It’s both a silly and smart way to do it, I guess. But when the general public finds out what’s really happening, there will be outrage.”

The silencer industry and gun rights groups say critics are vastly overstating the dangers, arguing that Hollywood has created an unrealistic image of silencers, which they prefer to call “suppressors.” They cite studies showing that silencers reduce the decibel level of a gunshot from a dangerous 165 to about 135 — the sound of a jackhammer — and that they are rarely used in crimes.

But gun-control activists say silencers are getting quieter, particularly in combination with subsonic ammunition, which is less lethal but still damaging. They point to videos on YouTube in which silencers make high-powered rifles have “no more sound than a pellet gun,” according to one demonstrator showing off a silenced semiautomatic .22LR.

Proponents say that’s not a good way to judge the sound.

gunsilencer_103.JPG?uuid=o_3DUs3iEeaFzeZ

“You’re still going to hear the gunfire from far away,” said Knox Williams, president of the American Suppressor Association. “These things are still incredibly loud.”

Even with the restrictions, silencers have become one of the fastest-growing segments of the gun industry, which pushed accessories as gun sales level off. In 2010, there were 285,087 registered silencers. Last year: 902,085.

Rep. Matt Salmon, an Arizona Republican who regularly shoots with silencers, introduced the Hearing Protection Act in the House in 2015. A companion bill in the Senate was championed by Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho).

Though the bill never made it to committee hearings, it generated tremendous interest, becoming the third most-viewed piece of legislation on Congress’s website last year. (Top was the Democrat-led Assault Weapons Ban of 2015.)

Salmon recently retired, and it’s not clear yet who will reintroduce the measure. The bill had 82 co-sponsors — all but two of them Republicans.

Easing the restrictions could have a profound public-health impact, champions of the legislation say.

Hunters often shoot without hearing protection so they can hear prey moving. Many recreational shooters don’t like wearing ear covers, which can be heavy and hot and in gun ranges lead to many conversations ending with, “I can’t hear you.”

Silencers are also marketed as must-have attachments for high-powered rifles — a tactical necessity that reduces recoil, thus improving aim.

“Quiet guns are easier to shoot,” the National Rifle Association says in its American Rifleman magazine. “Try it.”

Silencer stigma

Silencers were invented in 1908 by Hiram Percy Maxim, a graduate of MIT whose father invented the first fully automatic machine gun. The younger Maxim had a knack for reducing loud noises; he also contributed to the development of the automobile muffler.

“I have always loved to shoot, but I never thoroughly enjoyed it when I knew that the noise was annoying other people,” he said late in life. “It occurred to me one day that there was no need for the noise. Why not do away with it and shoot quietly?”

Maxim solved the problem in the bathtub. He noticed that the water swirled silently down the drain. What if the gases produced from firing a bullet could swirl that way, too? So Maxim put what he called “a whirling tube” on the end of a rifle. It successfully muffled the sound of the gunfire. Soon, the whirling tube was U.S. Patent No. 958,935, titled “Silent Firearm.”

In the 1930s, to curtail gang violence, Congress passed the National Firearms Act, putting restrictions and special taxes on machine guns and other high-powered weapons. Though they hadn’t been used frequently in crimes, silencers were included anyway, reportedly out of concern that poachers would use them to steal food during the Great Depression.

“It’s a very strange tale,” said Stephen Halbrook, a Virginia gun rights attorney who recently published a law review article about the history of silencers. “If you think about it, if [the Occupational Safety and Health Administration] had been around then, they probably would have required people use these things.”

Though silencers are now legal in 42 states, industry officials say the onerous and expensive task of buying them keeps gun owners, particularly hunters, from their preferred method of protecting their hearing.

They frequently point out that Britain, with some of the strictest gun laws in the world, has no restrictions on silencers for many types of firearms.

“There isn’t this negative stigma because of Hollywood that has suppressed — pun intended — the use of suppressors in this country,” said Josh Waldron, the founder of SilencerCo, the Utah manufacturer.

Waldron started his company in 2008 after a career in photography, aiming to educate shooters about the benefits of silencers and to essentially hold buyers’ hands through the purchasing process. He sells about 18,000 silencers a month.

“I want to create an environment where people understand the real purpose of these devices and that people aren’t using them for nefarious acts,” he said.

Criminals and silencers

Silencer use in crimes is likely to be the focus of the legislative debate later this year.

Gun rights proponents and the silencer industry cite a study showing that in California, from 1995 to 2005, silencers appeared to be used for criminal purposes only 153 times in federal cases.

“Suppressed firearms are clearly not the choice of criminals,” according to a briefing paper by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, which is based in Newtown, Conn., and represents gun manufacturers. “The fears and concerns about suppressor ownership and use are unfounded and have not been seen in the over 100-year history of suppressors.”

Gun-control advocates contend that serious crimes are being committed with silencers on guns. Former police officer Christopher Dorner used silencers on an AR-15 and a 9mm handgun during two-day rampage in Los Angeles in 2013.

A serial killer in Vermont used a silencer in the killing of at least one of his 11 victims.

And the planner of a disrupted mass shooting targeting a Masonic temple in Milwaukee last year was charged with possessing a silencer, in addition to other weapons charges.

“They wanted these things so they could kill quietly,” said Rand, of the Violence Policy Center. “The industry wants to make silencers less scary, but they can’t.”

Gun owners such as Trump Jr. can’t understand why people like Rand don’t get it.

In the video, after he’s shown shooting several guns with silencers, Trump Jr. says they can help with getting “little kids into the game.”

“It’s just a great instrument,” he says. “There’s nothing bad about it at all.”

Instead of posting viral shit for the professionally outraged to pretend to be up in arms about, like this is TWITTER or something, maybe someone can actually start talking about POLITICS again, especially for those of us outside the US but who still see how the upcoming regime will affect the entire world. Funny how the people actually making real discussion like @XXL never have their very valid points responded to, while the insidious (faux?) right wing element of this place carry on with their nonsense.

Perhaps a moderator could put all that discussion elsewhere if it's messed up this thread? Although I'd say it fits the topic of politics, if this thread has specifics then fair enough. I think were done now anyway, sometimes conversation about events happen, and sometimes they do get lengthy and go askew, so excuse us ... or me.

When did XXL make "real discussion" that was sharply superior to anyone else? No shade, I just don't remember reading anything that needed instant attention lol. I'll be sure to look out for that in the future.

Well I've already said there shouldn't be censorship, but I do think we can tell the difference between what's being posted to actually contribute to the discussion, and what's just to stir up shit, and who falls for it and who doesn't....

It's like Brexit and the upcoming french elections (even if it's not Le Pen it's still gonna be tough since the right wing candidate has trump like visions)....resistance will make us stronger. Since the political landscape is pretty fucked up and has been for a long time, i would have been scared if Hillary had won too, not as scared as i am with Trump but she was surrounded by not such nice people either and that's the big problem we have everywhere. We don't know who the bad guys and good guys are anymore, all wolves in sheep clothing. It always breaks my heart when i see somebody from the left whom i supported and championned in the past doing the same as the people i don't trust. They are ALL too submissive to the big corporations and these corporations (and banks) are so invested in our governments that except for a huge worldwide Revolution , i don't see how we could really change the course of the march of the world.

Look at what happened with that cunt Christine Lagarde, how she got away with being pronounced guilty by a tribunal for giving away $400 million to a private french business whom is well known for being a crook (he made his fortune by buying collapsing businesses, rebuilding them with government money and cutting jobs then selling them). The tribunal said she was guilty but her status as the head of MIF was giving her immunity.

Every single person nominated by Trump is the worst person one could have ever imagined for the job. I feel bad for black americans because they are the ones who will be even more impacted by what's coming up. Poor people have a bumping road ahead of them.

I hope this will bring new people in the political arena, the will to change things and the system because it does not feel like Democracy when your choice is to vote for the lesser evil. Trumps presidency won't be easy for americans and the world but i find solace in knowing that it won't be easy for him as well. People will fight him and when the ones who voted for him will see that he lied to them, that their personal situations will get worst he will face a tremendous amount of backlash from his own base. Just look at the CEOs he nominated in his cabinet, that goes against everything he said in his campaign. And that's just a start. Between Brexit and Trump, money has OFFICIALLY taken over the world. The rich will get richer and the poor poorer and when one has nothing left to lose, here comes trouble.

Actually (sorry for being a bit off topic here) i think Fillon is scarier than Le Pen, both of them are far right wing lunatics. He voted against the decriminalization of homosexuality in 1982, that alone shows a fascist far right mentality. The French election is going to be a nightmare and there won't be any happy ending.

Back to Trump:

One might wonder why Trump won't accept the hacking scandal from Russia. He will tell you that NOT just Russia but also China and Iran have hacked US servers. Mind you Trump wants to instill contempt and hate for China. We all know Donald hates China and I'm not so sure why.. maybe his businesses werent that successful around those areas. But for Heavens sake lets leave Russia alone. But do we know why?

Trump will look you straight in the face and will tell you he has no relationship with Putin. He doesn't know the guy. He never spoke to him and only knows what he looks like by seeing him on pictures. Of course his idiotic supporters will believe that.

Now watch this:

Have always been disgusted by this.  Never will understand how this obnoxious revolting fool has supporters after watching him mock a disabled man like this.  Conspiracy theorists and the far right try to tell us all that the media is all wrong about him, but everything he is as a person is shown completely virtually every time he opens his mouth or appears in public.

Sad, sad times indeed. As I said all our west democracies are being put to the test. Their core values are no longer accepted by the majority. People would rather turn away from the truth than face their own uglyness. Brexit, Trump, the rise of the far right are just examples of how closed minded and hateful people have become. Those people would vote for Hitler if they could. Either they are evil or ignorant or mentally impaired. Or all of them together.

The working class and disenfranchised have been duped by thinking that this billionaire wants to drain the swamp and help them.  He has always has his own interests as his motives.   Who does he want in positions of power - CEOs,  Wall Street,  Ultra conservative far right members of politics and climate change deniers who favour big business for example. He has no social conscious - never has and uses people for his own gain.  He has under-paid workers at his businesses for years so why would he care about the working class now other than getting their votes.  The corporations and money men are running the world completely and have no interests in doing the right thing.  It is up to the people of the world to fight this and they have a major fight on their hands.

This 100% and what makes my blood boil is if you're a big celebrity with money and you take a stand against him then you're branded a hypocrite or being out of touch. Don't people know that poor people aren't going to be heard anyway? What alternative would we have? At least we have some people with a position and fame who speak their mind and call him out. Trump supporters would much rather live in a dictatorship where no one is free to say a word against the regime. No wonder Trump loves Russia.

You know how much US owes China?

They can't wait to call these black people thugs and cry about how racism against them exist (which is IMPOSSIBLE)
