I've been hearing this all day and honestly, I am not so sure. The angry white men that Hillary lost, might have been amenable to Bernie, but his support among minority voters was way less than hers so he would've lost on turnout there too. Also, Hillary exceeded Obama's voter turnout in Florida from 2012 but STILL lost to Trump.

Hillary is a flawed candidate, but there was something bigger going on here and I think it was mostly Midwest and Rust Belt anger at the Establishment (both Democrats and Republicans). You could argue that Bernie was more of an outsider too and therefore his message could resonate, but he would've been a continuation of Obama (but certainly more liberal) and I think many voters simply wanted to blow up the existing framework. My impression is that the vibe was LESS government, not more. At least among many of the Rust Belt voters - especially after this year's insurance premium hikes came out 2 weeks before the election. Obamacare is on the chopping block.

Also, I think it is important to note that Sanders did not release his tax returns (except 1 year - and he only joined the Democrats to run for President and he did it a year before the election) and although that did not hurt Donald, there is much that could've come out about Sanders had he been in the race longer. This is purely hypothetical at this point, but if it was discovered that Sanders actually had investments in fossil fuel or other industries which could've hurt his street cred with Progressives. Again, I have no knowledge of anything like that, but it's weird a candidate running for President who prides himself on not giving paid speeches to Wall Street wouldn't just release his tax returns when asked, after all, they're done already and filed.

Anyway, this a Madonna forum so emotion rules over intellect and I know everyone (well, almost everyone) is pissed at the DNC right now, but honestly, the Trump phenomenon looks like it was going to happen anyway. Logical arguments weren't working on him all year.

Yeah I think it was actually Obamacare ironically that 'may' have cost her election mixed in w/ a totally disconnected candidate. Someone like Biden from PA may have been able to call out Trumps bullshit in a way more effective way than Hillary 'but' he Obama's VP so...who the hell knows.  The FBI thing didn't help and prob cost her a few more votes but she lost by decent margin those rust belt states. Wasn't huge bust wasn't razor thin at all like 2000 FL situation. The base (esp African Americans) who are key just didn't show up. In Michigan almost 100k people voted but not for president. No doubt that would've taken her over the top. HIS voters were positively not hesitating to vote for him while hers did. Writing was on the wall the whole time. Last deciders actually went for Trump. During the primaries Trump ended up losing late deciders.

Far as Bernie I'm kind of 50/50. Do agree that it's def possible he wouldn't have gotten even less African American and other minority votes. ALL he was basically getting during the primaries were young white people like Trump was getting old white people. If Bernie got the nomination I think we may have handed Trump even more older conservative white votes and the Republican base would've 'came home' even sooner. Hillary at least had 'some' appeal to moderates. Bernie wouldn't have. So...like most people I have no idea.

As of now, Elizabeth Warren is positively the one for 2020.

Dubya was elected in 2000, went on vacation for weeks at a time and ignored the CIA memo about potential upcoming terror attacks. The U.S. suffered the worst attack on our nation in his first year in office with more Americans killed on our soil than any other time. His party made gains in the House and Senate in 2002 and he was re-elected in 2004.

Learn your history. Desperate men do anything to remain in power.

Demographics have changed a lot for these last 12 years and Trump only won because he ran against Hillary Clinton. He will probably end up having less votes than McCain and Romney in the end. So, unless he improves his numbers next time, he will lose. The blue collar democrats that overwhelmingly voted for Trump had previously voted for Bernie Sanders. Hillary married the man that signed NAFTA, that was just too easy for Trump AND Sanders to exploit.

Could he be re-elected? Yes, if he does a good job in improving the economy because in the end it's all about the economy. My point was that if he does not deliver his promises, he'll probably be out and, depending on how bad he is, he can bring down the Senate majority with him. I don't see how that is unreasonable.

full circle we will come

Yup. Obviously and rightfully so people are in a state of hysteria on the left, center left and moderates. Literally 60%+ of the country but not in a George W or any other generic Repub. candidate way. If Kasich, Jeb or Marco won, would be business as usual even though a few would simply be disappointed. This is obviously very different. It's all the newness and abruptness of it all. There was never any 'pivot' and won't be. Like others said it's not so much Trump but people like Pence, David Duke, Bannon, racists, haters all getting power and validated. That said, as difficult as it will prob be, it'll ultimately (like every other president) come down to how do you w/ the economy and everything else you promised to 'clean up' His insane supporters esp. the semi decent, educated ones will turn on him as quickly as they got suckered in if he doesn't deliver. Again, Crooked Hillary and anything Obama will soon be tired as much as Bush was to Obama within the first year.

If this is what you got from these disastrous elections, then it's very, VERY probable that Trump will win again in 2020.

Hillary lost because she's a career politician. She's part of a political dynasty. That's not what America wanted. Even if she got 200,000 more votes than Trump, she got 5 million less than Obama. People were NOT excited. She was the anti-Trump vote.

She offered NOTHING to a lot of pissed off people who've turned their legitimate concerns, desires and complaints into hate and built up anger, thanks 100% to Trump and the Tea Party and all those politicians who've fed off of that. No alternative, nothing. And that's white people.

Let's not even talk about democrats. Millions of democrats and millennials spent the last 8 years fighting the 1%, fighting police brutality, fighting career politicians, similar things to what white rural people have been fighting for who feel increasingly disenfranchised by the "elites" or whatever they say. And what did Clinton give them? I mean, seriously tell me because I don't know. Her campaign basically pandered to every single minority without offering real solutions and it came off as sincere. Her running mate giving speeches in Spanish?  It was cringeworthy. All words, zero substance. The day she announced she was running she released a video with gay couples hugging and lesbians hugging and brown people running happily in the meadows. What the fuck does that even mean?

It's even more horrifying than you think...

Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, Ben Carson and Pam Bondi are just some of the extreme anti-LGBT Republicans up for crucial posts in Trump’s cabinet, according to a leak.
In the latest in a string of major leaks from President-elect Trump’s transition team, Buzzfeed News today published a preliminary list of proposed Cabinet picks.

Despite running on an anti-establishment platform, the leaked list – which is not finalised and includes multiple choices for many of the roles – is comprised primarily of establishment Republican politicians and millionaire business lobbyists, including an oil tycoon and a venture capitalist.
A number of names on the list will not go down well with LGBT people.
One of the most concerning mooted appointments is Attorney General, with Florida’s Pam Bondi on the shortlist.
While Obama’s Attorney Generals Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch have tirelessly supported LGBT rights, filing many briefs in support of marriage equality and anti-discimination protections, Bondi has the polar opposite record.
Serving as Florida’s top law official, Ms Bondi fought bitterly against same-sex marriage until the very week that weddings began – filing desperate taxpayer-funded attempts to stall on the issue, and later being dubbed Loser of the Year for her actions.

Bondi went beyond the pale to fight against equality, claiming in a legal brief that “disrupting Florida’s existing marriage laws would impose significant public harm”, and would cause “significant financial and logistical problems”.
The list also confirms that Dr Ben Carson, who had already managed to leak his own involvement, is under consideration to be Secretary of Health or Education.
Dr Carson previously insisted that same-sex marriage is a Marxist plot from the New World Order, claiming in a speech to a listed anti-gay group that gay weddings are part of a plan “to destroy unity [and] bring America down.”
Carson has repeatedly been forced to apologise when caught making overtly homophobic comments – apologising after he was caught comparing gay people to paedophiles, and again apologising after he was caught claiming that prisons ‘prove’ being gay is a choice.
His repeated humiliations have not dissuaded him, however – he recently compared gay couples to conjoined twins.
Meanwhile In contention for Secretary of Commerce is rabidly homophobic former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.
Huckabee made his own ill-fated bid for President earlier this year, attempting to pitch himself as the evangelical candidate. He rallied behind Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, compared anti-LGBT activists to Martin Luther King, labelled gay parents ‘destructive’, and ‘joked’ that he wishes he were transgender to spy on teenage girls in the shower.
A few months ago he urged the GOP to keep on trying  to roll back same-sex marriage and LGBT equality.
Huckabee insisted: “If the party makes a substantial change on issues like life or marriage, it will be disastrous because whatever they think they gain, they’re wrong.
“[Gay marriage] happened very quickly in the United States. We really don’t know what the social consequences are.”
If none of that is scary enough for you, we have just six words: Secretary of the Interior Sarah Palin.
Buzzfeed’s full list is below.

I didn't even want to comment on that. Making fun of Gaga was like an ongoing joke for me. It was stupid, silly, entertaining, she's ridiculous, whatever. But this was just fucking disastrous. This was too much for me. Her people called up Clinton's people and Clinton's people, being so out of touch with reality, were probably like "yeah let's put her on stage ON ELECTION NIGHT, the youngins will LOVE that!" Again, this is NOT what American needed / wanted. They didn't want the establishment, so what did they do? They shoved Hollywood down our throats. All those elitist assholes giving their opinions 24/7. I'm so sure some man who's been on welfare since his factory job left the U.S. really fucking cares about that. Or someone who's having a really hard time making ends meet was like WOW George Clooney says I should vote for Clinton! What a great idea!

But yes, let's just simplify this whole, entire mess into: it was all racism.

Anyone remotely surprised. The GOP wasn't even semi shy about having the most anti gay platform of all time. They were never playing. They had nothing to lose and the gamble paid off. This was their last stand. Will keep saying it (esp to the 15% of LGBT self loathing garbage Trump supporters) they're gonna pay. Even if they're 'low key' fiscal conservative ghey$ this means no more Grindr, Scruff, porn etc etc..to get their cheap fixes and relief. This Trump crew will gladly throw them into the oven first. Crooked Hillary (as usual when she's NOT running for office) approval ratings will skyrocket to 70% within 6 months so makes her run again :# lmao. Nah...Elizabeth Warren winning in a landslide here soon enough!

Michael Moore, Andrew Sullivan etc etc..told you this would happen! That's another sad fact about America. They piss away money on Gaga album based on..whatever (they don't even know why) then its too late to see how horrid it is ! Michael Moore was warning everyone since the summer this is what would happen and very few fking got or thought it could actually happen. Simple as that. Dont wanna say anyone 'deserves' what's coming but kind of are 'cause they're responsible. Imagine what the 'electoral college' would look like today/ 3 days later lol? As Trump said Brexit x 10. But way worse! Ameriduh elected an actual sub human turd not simply to leave the EU or whatever. Why does America need panic, riots and backlash for it to FINALLY register. And anyone who thinks the right will budge. Dream on. The right was as pissed off..maybe more so in 2009. They're having multiple orgasms now and will make sure they continue sticking it to everyone for 4+ years.

How can you disagree when it's fact people on the left stayed home because they weren't with her? I don't give a damn about the hell his policies will unleash on the world because everyone who thinks they're smart believe she's just as much a monster as anyone else. Oh fucking well.

You need a Xanax. The world is not ending.

Why redicule my post when in all probability something is bound to happen in terms of gay rights if you're looking at Trumps cabinet. Let's not forget how the moral right wing majority has always been against gay rights. Do you think those people will carry on making things easier for gay people?

And why would Trump who wasn't even elected as a president have so many close relations with Putin? What could he possibly do with him that the entire US house of representives couldn't do?

Im sorry but I have all the rights to be suspicious... please, don't redicule people just because you think they are a little OTT. Remember electing Trump as president is OTT too.

I was never with her. I despise her. I just voted for her because he was so awful and because some super anti-Trump organization paid for my absentee ballot's shipping and handling fees. I had nothing to lose. I'm super vocal about everything around here and I didn't even feel like voting, imagine hundreds of thousands of people who aren't interested in politics watching both assholes go at it for what seemed like 100000000 years.

I also think you guys are overreacting. Read his first 100 days in office plan or whatever it's called. It's nothing disastrous. He said he's going to deport people. Deportations skyrocketed under Obama:

What's the difference?

I said this about a year ago and everyone wanted to lynch me: but Trump LOVES America. Regardless of what scary fucked up legislation is passed against muslims and us wetbacks, he is not going to actively attempt to sabotage or ruin the U.S. He will try his damn hardest to "make america great again." Unfortunately, that means more Reagan style laissez-faire type of legislation, less regulation, more pollution, more protectionism, drill baby drill, etc.

I'm reading his program on his new website. It's a huge ecological nightmare in the making regarding the energy....the rest is just as horrid....

He's asking for people to apply for a job in his administration but they MUST show their tax returns and anything that "might embarrass the president"....

https://www.greatagain.gov/

You can also give him your ideas to make America great again....like asking him to not swear in as the president in january and refuse the job ^^

Where do you get the impression that Trump loves America?! Tell me what Trump did for America prior his candidacy? As far as I can tell Trump loves money and he loves power! And giving power to a man who wants it is a very dangerous thing. In his speeches I always sensed he wanted to make America great again yes but with little if no consideration whatsoever towards the rest of the world. So yes let's build a wall to get rid of the Hispanics. Let's carry on with the same arcane gun legislations so black people will carry on killing each other when the cops cannot do it themselves. Middle East? Syria? Leave it to the Russians. Muslims? They don't report each other so they must be terrorist! Not even mentioning his take on international trades...

Why are people still discussing it? His policies are all based on making America great by getting rid of whatever ( so called filthy by the white moral majority)  America has  been come to touch with in the last 30 years...That is scary!
