I hope these people realize that at the end of the day they're signing up for what are basically administrative jobs. The same goes to Trump, he's spent basically his entire adult life being the face of business business, which includes making TV appearances, cameos, shooting commercials for Trump Vodka, etc.

Now he's going to sit behind a desk most of the time reviewing paper work and coming up with ways not to be absolutely hated and keep his poll numbers up.

His kids say he works at his desk constantly, he's got paper everywhere have you seen it???? He's a workaholic. As far as public appearances, he's the frickin president.. dinners, interviews, cameras in his face all the time he's gonna love it. The only thing he'll miss is not being able to openly flirt with hot chicks. He will be obsessed about poll numbers but that's a good thing! Keeping us happy.

Gays, apparently. They cry over a woman who's never fought for them and only accepted them recently.

They made fun of Bernie and his supporters, a man who was actually screaming and shouting at congress in their faces in the mid 90s for being homophobic and disgusting.

Oh the gays. They dropped the ball years ago.

Anyway it's over!!

Yep, this was an election for the Democratic Party to lose given the changing demographics and, boy, did it ever lose... Most of the establishment Dems got there by some sort of Clinton connection (they have been there forever...) and so no one was willing to challenge to coronation of Hillary. It's clear to see now that Sanders would have beat Trump easily in the Rust Belt. Dems picked the wrong candidate, the only one that could have lost to Trump. This election was lost not because more people voted for Trump. They didn't and this graph totally proves that. The election was lost because of the candidate and what she stood for, not her gender.

This commentator has some good insights on why most Democrats didn't vote for Hillary.

"On the surface, it's astounding that a man who ripped off thousands of people who worked for him became the champion of the regular Joe. But, as Bernie Sanders reiterated (...) , the problem is that people have ceased to see a difference between the parties, particularly on economic issues. I'll briefly cite a few examples.

Starting out with NAFTA, Bill Clinton forced "free trade" upon the party. I warned multiple times during the election that Trump would make inroads with voters in the Rust Belt unless Democrats made a clean break from corporate trade deals. Around the globe, these deals are a key tool to drive down wages, exploit workers and prosecute global class warfare. But, the current president still serves up the malarkey about the benefits of these deals.
Bill Clinton's broader economic agenda was even more corrosive. During Clinton's so-called "good economy," the decline of organized labor continued. The president, and his secretary of labor, Robert Reich, did very little to arrest the decline.
No Democratic president was more focused on letting business interests off the leash. He gave more power to media companies, triggering consolidation and a powerful wave of concentration of the media into a few hands. The average person, not steeped in policy, understood this every time he or she opened their skyrocketing cable bills.
Hand-in-glove with Wall Street, Clinton got rid of the Glass Steagall Act, which removed the separation between commercial banks, insurers and investment banks, allowing the self-dealing manipulation of mortgages and interest rates and accelerating the shifting of huge wealth into the hands of a few.
Again, the average person, just trying to make ends meet, eventually got the sharpest end of that spear when millions of people lost their homes, jobs and retirement in the thundering collapse known as the Great Recession, which, for many, has been a depression.
There is so much more: A planet dying because for years fossil fuel interests were coddled. Welfare reform. Mass incarceration of people of color, which had both racial and economic consequences. The praise of the Clinton years, and red-faced defense by its leader, was always couched in contrast to the Reagan and two Bush Administrations. Great.
Feeding off the Clinton machine, the Democratic Party has become riddled with lobbyists, billionaires, and hustlers who pocket huge sums of money by running either nonprofit "think tanks" or election-cycle networks, and politicians who, indeed, are focused mostly on reelection. Surrounding the party are extremely well-paid non-profit leaders, who end up defending the status quo.
Chief component of the Clinton machine in recent years, the Clinton Foundation operated somewhat out of sight.
The big donations streaming from anti-union powerhouses like Wal-Mart or big financial entities like Bank of America not only whitewashed the policies of interests directly opposed to what the Democratic Party should stand for, but they also clouded the deeper systemic crisis within the party. We can only address climate change, poverty and global inequality by axing the very system benefiting many of the donors to the Clinton Foundation."
It's too late now and lessons will be learned. Hopefully, the right to vote in this country will not be taken for granted so much. But I do have a hard time with people, especially those living outside the US, that keep labeling this country as racist and bigoted. People, Trump didn't even get the majority of the votes! And I bet that a lot of people voted against her and not for him. Now, if you're a big Hillary fan, this may be hard to understand because you most likely had to turn a blind eye to the many red flags in her past. People do that often. They turn a blind eye to the negative traits of a person when they believe that his or her good traits trump (pun intended) their flaws.
Hillary fans were willing to lose this election by supporting a very disliked establishment candidate when Americans in general has been voting for change ever since Obama was elected. Obama won against Hillary because he was the candidate of change! He beat her because she was the establishment. If dems did it, then why would the general electoral body not do it?
I also think it is very disingenuous to paint a misogynistic brush over the election's results. Fathers talking to their daughters and explaining why America still does not have a female president need to be careful in not putting the blame on a constituency that cannot handle a woman in power. That's bull. There are people like that (a lot of them even) but they are the minority, they can't elect presidents. Dems voted for a man instead of woman back in 2008, is the race of person more important than their gender? Dems voted for Obama because they wanted change and not because she was a woman. Hillary's track record and not her gender is what worked against her.

And all of that is exactly the point but it seems it continues to fall on deaf ears

If you try to analise and debate why Hillary Clinton lost you somehow automatically condone Trump's hideous slurs and attitude

NO thank you, people that start accepting things or idolizing blindly failing to see both sides of an equation do themselves a great disservice

Well, Bernie could not have done worse. Let's be honest, Hilary lost an "unloseable" election.

And the only reason why Hilary had 3 million more votes in the primary was because the DNC and cheating delegates got the ball rolling for her. Did you not notice that Bernie was winning the primaries and even in states where he was the clear major winner, the delegates came in, shat all over him, and gave Hilary their votes and got the momentum going for her. And just like the repbulicans you make fun of for voting blindly for trump, you democrats were no different following Hilary like little blind sheep.

FUCK Hilary and her cheating ways. She is a lying and despicable mole and deserved to lose. And even if she was up against Osama Bin Laden, I would still have given my vote to Jill Stein. Hilary and the cheating Democrat's got everything they deserved and wished for. Could not have happend to a more deserving mole.

Sadly I have to agree with most of what you have written. I find America's two party political system even more ridiculous, fraudulent, easy to rig and soap opera ish in tone than the stuff we are forced to see on TV here in Europe. It was a very personalistic /reality TV show campaign. FACT

What some posters are missing in this thread is that the same people that were brought to the fore by Trump's rethoric are the same people that were Bush supporters before when the US government leveraged 9/11 to invade Afghanistan (and even later admitted "Afghan based" AlQaeda was a creation of theirs, add insult to injury, even Clinton herself said so) with UN's consent and invade Iraq two years later WITHOUT UN's consent this time, in what was at all effects an internationally illegal aggression based on sheer lies which in turn triggered the implosion of an entire area followed by another deceitful forceful intromission with Lybia in 2011 which when segued into Syria etc etc

With Trump it gets worse because he's a TV man/entrepeneur whatever and people look at what goes on American screens as pure escapism. They are drawn to the soap opera tone because the US has always been the entertainment country par excellence.

The problem remains that there is a huge pocket of American society that's deeply unaware of/indifferent to what goes on all over the world, they don't even know the world or could conceive a world outside of US borders, they are the same fanatics/evangelical/john waynes/beauty pegeants/mean girls-type high school/football champion that shout USA USA USA without realising they're literally being screwed over and manipulated by their very own government.

It's a cultural issue that sets the US miles apart from most of the rest of the world, this whole induced mentality of "we are the policemen of the world", is what has poisoned everything from the word go.

Questions about the Obama Administration remain:

(continuation of neocon policies)

1) why did he appoint a cabinet full of people from the same banking conglomerates and banking regulators that triggered the 2008 crisis in the first place?

2) why is the US government entangled in an hypocritical alliance with Sunni repressive Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan and Turkey yet expects people to believe they want to remove Assad for the sake of the oppressed in Shiite Syria?

3) why are arms and funds being funnelled into fundamentalism from all manners of sources through the US government?

I have watched a BBC Newsnight interview with Susan Sarandon last week where she said she'd endorse the green party candidate and she pointed out a few simple things that made a lot of sense. If only Hillary Clinton's real behind the surface conduct were subjected to the same combing some of the braggadocio jokes Trump farts out get, EXACTLY BECAUSE they are knowingly used and meant to distract people and bring out the worst in them. Meanwhile I have no doubt that he's going to be a tool to introduce the same same policies we have seen with both Bush and Obama. People need to stop fighting each other and understand that the entire system is a masquerade ....

The pic is from yesterday when Obama was giving his speech. I hope they trash the place and break off letter Ts from White House computers on moving out day in January!

What about the good things he's done? That's not enough? The fact that he was fighting a republican controlled house? We can't EVER know how much he wanted to do because it was probably SHOT down by those against him.

Sometimes i I just don't feel like there's any president that will be good enough. It really hurts me how people bash Obama when they know nothing about what he could have trying to be doing in the White House, how they think he's just sitting back doing nothing. I just don't get it

Funny how that often gets mentioned when in fact he continued implementing traditionally Republican policies

But I should use the correct word, which is not Republican policy but Neocon policy, much worse

:cries::cries::cries:  My heart breaks for her.  I am still sad about this result and I am not even American.

Me too. :( Wanna give her hugs and have a higher voice tell her it'll happen. No doubt there will be a woman president but I knew in my gut Hillary wasn't the one. Most likely will be Elizabeth Warren. She's got the X factor that Hillary never had. After (maybe)  4 years of Trump, Warren will prob. destroy ANY Republican. More importantly, hope this 104 year old women somehow gets 'why' Hillary didnt win

Sorry, this is a joke. Go ahead and don't take any money from big donors and see how far you get. Ask the 3rd party candidates how much of the vote they got.

Bernie was able to, but I doubt a Senate candidate in a state like Indiana can raise enough money to get name recognition or build a ground game.

Go Bernie!! I saw him on CNN about an hour ago. Wasnt a fan but omfg he would've destroyed Trump in the election! :// He knew it and looked seriously salty about it at both Hillary Clinton as much as Trump. Was hard to watch.

I've been hearing this all day and honestly, I am not so sure. The angry white men that Hillary lost, might have been amenable to Bernie, but his support among minority voters was way less than hers so he would've lost on turnout there too. Also, Hillary exceeded Obama's voter turnout in Florida from 2012 but STILL lost to Trump.

Hillary is a flawed candidate, but there was something bigger going on here and I think it was mostly Midwest and Rust Belt anger at the Establishment (both Democrats and Republicans). You could argue that Bernie was more of an outsider too and therefore his message could resonate, but he would've been a continuation of Obama (but certainly more liberal) and I think many voters simply wanted to blow up the existing framework. My impression is that the vibe was LESS government, not more. At least among many of the Rust Belt voters - especially after this year's insurance premium hikes came out 2 weeks before the election. Obamacare is on the chopping block.

Also, I think it is important to note that Sanders did not release his tax returns (except 1 year - and he only joined the Democrats to run for President and he did it a year before the election) and although that did not hurt Donald, there is much that could've come out about Sanders had he been in the race longer. This is purely hypothetical at this point, but if it was discovered that Sanders actually had investments in fossil fuel or other industries which could've hurt his street cred with Progressives. Again, I have no knowledge of anything like that, but it's weird a candidate running for President who prides himself on not giving paid speeches to Wall Street wouldn't just release his tax returns when asked, after all, they're done already and filed.

Anyway, this a Madonna forum so emotion rules over intellect and I know everyone (well, almost everyone) is pissed at the DNC right now, but honestly, the Trump phenomenon looks like it was going to happen anyway. Logical arguments weren't working on him all year.
