Dead Or Alive release a comprehensive box set with 19 discs (also available as 10 x vinyl set)

DEAD OR ALIVE
‘SOPHISTICATED BOOM BOX MMXVI’
19-Disc career-encompassing collection, housed in a 24-page 12”x12” Deluxe Book

Includes albums previously unreleased in the UK, rarities, live recordings, alternate mixes, rare photos & introductory note by Pete Burns

On 28th October Edsel Records will release the long-awaited Dead or Alive career-spanning box set, which has been personally curated by Pete Burns and Steve Coy.

Dead Or Alive were formed in Liverpool in 1980 by Pete Burns. Following several independent singles and a John Peel session, in 1982 their singles started to chart on the UK Indie Chart, with ‘The Stranger’ reaching number 7. As a result, in 1983 the band was signed by Epic Records. They went on to have seven Top 40 singles and three Top 30 albums, being the first group to have a number one single – ‘You Spin Me Right Round (Like a Record)’ – under the production team Stock Aitken Waterman.

The group also experienced overseas success in the U.S. and Japan. In the U.S. ‘You Spin Me Right Round (Like a Record) and ‘Brand New Lover’ reached number 11 (and also topped the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart) and number 15 respectively on the Billboard Hot 100. In Japan the 1987 greatest hits album Rip It Up saw the band go stratospheric in that country. The band’s 1989 song ‘Turn Around And Count 2 Ten’ was their biggest hit in Japan, spending 17 weeks at number 1.
In the 1990s and 2000s Dead Or Alive continued to experiment, releasing eclectic albums and working with artists including Pet Shop Boys and Italian techno outfit Glam, as well as their best known and most loved single ‘You Spin Me’ charting again in 2003 and 2006.

‘Sophisticated Boom Box MMXVI’ is a unique collection, bringing together for the first time all the group’s albums, plus a plethora of rarities, live recordings, alternate mixes - including 10 previously unreleased remixes - and instrumental versions from the group’s vaults. It features 17 CDs and 2 DVDs housed in a deluxe casebound book, compromising the following eight albums, all of which have been remastered:

Sophisticated Boom Boom (2CD)
Youthquake (3CD)
Mad, Bad And Dangerous To Know (2CD)
Rip It Up (2CD)
Nude’/’Nude Remade Remodelled (2CD)
Fan The Flame, Part 1 (1CD)
Nukleopatra (2CD)
Fragile (3CD)

It includes all of their international hit singles, including the debut hit ‘That’s The Way (I Like It)’, ‘You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)’, ‘Lover Come Back To Me’, ‘Brand New Lover’, ‘Something In My House’, ‘My Heart Goes Bang’, ‘In Too Deep’, ‘I’ll Save All My Kisses’ and 17-week Japanese number one single, ‘Turn Around And Count 2 Ten’.

The final three albums in this collection – Fan The Flame (Part 1), Nukleopatra and Fragile – are released herein for the first time in the UK, having previously only been available on import. Each of these albums has had new artwork created for them, using images from the period.
Of the two DVDs, the first contains promotional videos; the second features a live concert filmed in Japan at the height of the group’s international fame and selected UK TV appearances.
The 24-page Deluxe Book includes a 4,000 word historical recollection by Pete Burns, as well as rare and unseen photos.

‘Sophisticated Boom Box MMXVI’ will also be available on vinyl: The Vinyl LP Collection. A 10 LP box set, featuring the eight studio albums, three of which are making their commercial vinyl debut: Fan The Flame (Part 1), Nukleopatra and Fragile.

@Crux It's entirely possible though not confirmed that each of the albums will be released as individual deluxe reissues in the future.

The collection is also out on 9th December as a 10 x clear vinyl box set (and a collectors edition with added exclusive of a 10'' four track EP).

DOA have confirmed there will be more unreleased material to come and they're working on a brand new Dead Or Alive album.

It would be a wonderful thing if one day Madonna got the same / similar treatment.

yes, RIP indeed...I didn't hear anything beyond Spin me around from him but that was one of my faves from the 80's and always felt fascinated by the video and his looks too....regardless of what came after that for him, including his strange transformation or "scandals".

Pete Burns tribute: The last interview

I interviewed Dead Or Alive frontman Pete Burns for SDE about a month ago, to discuss the new 19-disc box set Sophisticated Boom Box MMXVI. I was literally listening to the audio of the interview (conducted over the phone) late yesterday afternoon, when the shocking news came in of Pete’s untimely death at the age of 57.

When we spoke, Pete told me that he hadn’t done an interview for over 18 months and was “very anxious” about it, because he was “not used to selling a product”. He also didn’t really like speaking over the phone: “I hate having them and I don’t have the internet, either. I’m primitive, really,” he said.

I didn't know he was meant to be the opening  act for Who's That Girl, unfortunately his mother took seriously ill.
