i'm working right now on a long article about the consequences for European society after this horrific year. The main issue from psychiatrics is that there's being what is called the 'Werther effect', name given to the syndrom of copying behaviours. People who weren't even religious are beign radicalised and now decide to go and kill as much people as possible. It's the same as happens with suicide and in part is due to the overexposition and overinformation. Police is continually asking people not to post images from these tragedies in social nets.

So we can expect more during the summer. And they are impossible to control, because these people are regular ones, with severe psychiatric problems or who are suffering sever bullying (the Munich case). But you cannot know when will they snap.

Other thing is that we have to difference between organized attacks (Paris, Brussels) and spur of the moment attacks (even if they were planned by months in advance) like Nice, Germany or this one. The later ones are Werther effect. Later, ISIS goes and takes credit but in fact those people weren't in contact with any ISIS member.

The other consequences, which affects us all is irrational fear, more racism, but another one which is already happening: people will stop paying atention to these news. Is a defense mechanism in our brain. We won't think about this, just the same as we don't think anymore about refugees being drowned in the Mediterranean or people dying of hunger in some African countries.

the killing has happened in francois holland's town,I guess it's just a coincidencr

We keep getting reminded that all of this is just one big coincidence.

No attack is ever a coincidence. The thing is that most of them are done by people who aren't even terrorists, but crazy people copying others.

The fact that some crazy gunman plans an attack and chooses Hollande's hometown doesnt' mean that ISIS has a plan in France.

hahaha, sorry, i know that recently some posters have been missinterpreting your posts, so no wonder you are tired of it.

i mean that when people are saying that France or Germany aren't under attack (or something simmilar) is not because this is all unprepared, but that there's no big organisation planning things.

It's just scary. We even have Maajid Nawaz saying UK seems to be next. I don't care what terror group or ideology people belong to, IS, Boko Haram, IRA, KKK whatever. This is all terrorism.

We're so gonna have Marine Le Pen as the next president :flop:

If it's not her the whole presidential campaign will focus on immigration to win over voters terrified by all that happenned and what will surely happen again until election day. One thing is for sure the right will win, which one ? "soft" one or "hard" one ? Maybe far right with Le Pen.

Front National reacts to attack

A spokesman for the ministry of the interior, Pierre-Henry Brandet, confirmed that the priest was dead and said another hostage was "between life and death".

Mr Brandet told French TV channel BFMTV: "The two hostage-takers came out of the church armed and it was at that point that they were neutralised by the police."

L'épouvante encore à
. Le modus operandi fait évidemment craindre un nouvel attentat de terroristes islamistes. MLP

National Front leader Marine le Pen said: "More horror at Saint Etienne du Rouvray. The modus operandi obviously leads one to fear a new attack by Islamist terrorists."

French newspaper Le Figaro reported that the church was suspected to have been on a list of Catholic places of worship in the area around Paris drawn up as possible targets by Sid Ahmed Ghlam, an Algerian student arrested last year on suspicion of murdering a mother-of-one during a botched attempt to attack a church in Villejuif.

Horrible. Those islamists will rot in hell.

Salafism and Wahabism and all Saudi sponsored islam should be forbidden in the EU. Mosques should be closely monitored for the preachings.

An EU border police should be established.

Isis claims responsibility for everything. Even if there was an incident like a bank robbery or something they will just claim responsibility to make themselves look powerful. They probably have no involvement in half the things they claimed to be in. Shame about the priest though.

oh dear... no wonder Trump or Le Penn is having more and more followers :lol::lol::lol: How can you say that Elijah! There are almost 2 million muslims in Spain living here, like 99% of them immigrants. They are not having knives or axes or guns and killing us! they are working and living their lives.

Really, i know these news are disturbing, but we shouldn't think things like that.

The Oslo crazy man was norwegian. The Paris and Brusells terrorists were French and Belgian. The shooter in Munich was born in Germany. Yesterday some crazy man born in Japan killed 50 in Japan.

And we talk about bordiers and blaming immigrants.

But.. if we dig a bit deeper, we find that many of these crazy people descend from immigrant and had lots of problems of bullying because of their religion or their race. The German from Munich wasn't secure about his nationality even though he was born in Germany! How is that???

So... which society is really to blame?

So you think wahabism and salafism should be embraced??????? Read up on them.

There are lots of good and sensible muslims but we have to be blind not to see the pattern: radicalisation happens in the muslim community and the atrocities are connected to islam and are done in the name of "Allah". Its absurd to deny it. There is a problem with radical islam and it should be banned within Europe. All Saudi donations should be banned too.

Comparing islamic terrorism and islamists killing ppl in the name of Allah (which happens nowadays daily) with few nut cases that thankfully act once in 20 years is not logical. Karby, you know I love u, but u obviously see the world with pink glasses. I don't agree with u that we have to accept islamic terrorism and not do anything about it.

So awful, they made him kneel and slit his throat. Maajid Nawaz wrote this in light of the attack.

For years we've been screaming at every opportunity (largely on deaf ears) of a global jihadist insurgency, that cannot be defeated merely by law or war, and requires all of society to be engaged in a generational struggle against the Islamist ideology, and not merely against this specific jihadist terror group, or that.

Too few took us seriously, and many in government circles smirked at us, and even actively blocked our way. Many of my fellow Muslims disowned us and actively disparaged us. And many of my fellow liberals sneered at us, while warning against us.

Well, this is what that global jihadist insurgency looks like. - Maajid Nawaz

Exactly. And you can't ban radical ideas learned in the Internet. I agree that some Muslim leaders or mosques that spread hate should be controlled or even imprisoned but other solutions are like trying to capture the ocean with your hands, sorry. Or do you want to forbid the Internet?

Why did that radical branch of Islam spread in the first place?
