Explosions at Brussels airport

to this and what you said before, of course all innocent people matters and they matter just the same, but it's understandable when someone is more affected by facts happening in it's country or a country of the same culturale heritage or geographic proximity....

if i have tbh i'm a little annoyed (and it happens not only here so i'm not talking about anyone here) when a fact like this happens and soon people comes with "but no one said a word about *put any city in the world*" even because it's not totally true....the fact that no one made a thread about, not only the most recent turkish bombing, but others happened recently, doesn't mean that no one cares or get informed....but if anyone let me say, i don't feel guilt cause i feel more stricken (if it's the right term) by a terroist attack in bruxelles or paris....and i'd like anyone don't try to let me feel it

Well said Vande. Obviously an attack close to home I.e a neighbouring country is going to make you sit up and take notice. Doesn't mean you don't have compassion for others that are innocently killed elsewhere.

But when people say oh EU lives matter more, or the Turks co operate with ISIS so burn. Meh.

bambi probably meant to talk about the Turkish government (that's really shit in the worst term i could imagine and since years and years is doing terrible things, his people comprised) and not turkish people....even if the sentence was really badly formulated....and that "burn" well....not even deserving comment

I have no problem with this forum or with anyone making or not making a thread. Its directly at media who don't make a huge deal about attacks in Turkey, Ivory Coast and other countries. It's pure prejudice from media not people like you or me.

Some of us here have family/relatives in countries where these attacks happen so forgive us if we feel angry towards media.

Thank you, I'm not very articulate but you said it best here.

There is a clear distinction between the people and the government.

Of course, It's sad for innocent people getting killed, and no innocent lives matter more than others, (EU or NON EU).

Thanks Vande for explaining my point.

Still all innocent lives should matter no matter what country or religion.

I totally agree with you, my sentence was poorly written.

Havent seen much repercussions from the belgian attacks , almost like people are getting use to these terrible things which is scary

Aways in mind that new york will def experience terrorist attack again after 911. Believe major European cities need to prepare themselves too, so they won't be shocked when it occurs again.

At same time, agree people can't treat this as new normal. Belgium intelligence has to step up their game to at least try to prevent more of this crazy shit.

as much as you can prepare you can't avoid the shock...

belgium intelligence (and laws) have been derided and heavily criticized here in italy....don't have much faith in the intelligence (cleverness) of european institution nowdays...well....for a long time now

Look when this PC policy appears it really sucks.

Nor Bambi nor me think that innocent people should die. The mere thought that you think that is DISGUSTING. OK?

I said burn because YES, TURKEY BUYS OIL FROM ISIS.

Ugh how I hate when people try to act all sanctimonious and in the end they just seem twisted and sick

We all are normal people in this forum. We are not psychopaths who enjoy death anywhere.

Turkish Government is one of the main causes why ISIS exist. And even though any terrorist attack is horrible, it is expected there in Turkey. There was one in Istanbul last weekend. The Ankara one, other in October...

It is not expected in Brussels. It's bigger news. We feel it nearer home.

I hope that explaining what is evident makes people less angry here. Gosh.

so what i think is disgusting, i'm sanctimonious twisted and sick....

what about trying to re-read bambi's post (that he quietly admitted to have poorly written) and then your immediately following post (all in the contest of the sadness of this thread) and maybe, i say maybe, you'll find that something is wrong (it should be for granted that no one here desire people to get killed....). i even suggest you to clarify what you've written.... (apart from the fact that i don't find the reason to have fun in a thread like this)

but if i'm wrong then yes.....i'm sanctimonious and all the others nice things...

good for you

All bambi's posts are poorly written, that's part of his charm.

RIP to all the victims yesterday. I've been to that airport many times and have friends in Ghent. Belgians are wonderful people and it's a beautiful country. I'm also glad that our Belgian forum members are safe. They had nails in those bombs. The whole thing just makes me sick.

It reactivated the fear and deep sadness we all felt in november in Paris. As soon as the news broke politicians and journalists alike started arguing with such lack of common decency. I almost resigned. I was already feeling terrible because my moter was at the hospital for heart surgery and she experienced racism directly and undirectly. Then the bombings in Brussels happenned. It's an emotional whirlwind. These fucking attacks have been taking place non stop around the world since what it seems like forever. In Africa, Turkey (wether it's Isis or PKK), Europe even in Australia.

Yesterday i met one of my sisters for lunch and somebody had left a paper bag unattended under a table on a terrace. I asked the girls on next table if the person had left for good. Everybody felt fear so without thinking twice i checked into the back, a bottle of water and what was left of a sandwich. I threw the bag in the next bin. I don't understand how people can be so careless to do that in these times. It's not me being paranoid, it's just that we all must be vigilante and look for each other.

I had a tantrum yesterday morning at the redaction for lack of sleep (on top of everything my female dog is in heat driving my male dog nuts who kept me awake all night with his japping). We should think before we speak. There's no shame in saying we don't know. Yet on tv, in my redaction people talk. A lot. Saying things as facts when it's just personal brain farts provoked by fear, anger and our inhability to understand how come one can do that. Everybody cope and deal in their on way i guess.

I'm still haunted by the children crying in the Brussels subway tunnel.

I can't fathom how people in Africa deal with this daily threat.

I'mangry at my own government. 10 days ago i was responsible (i can say it now even though i was scared of the repercussions on me then) for outing my president for giving the medal of honour (Legion d'honneur, our highest decoration) to the prince of Saudia because he demanded it. A friend sent me a photo on sunday morning while i was having my coffee. Since it's someone i know for 10 years now as a club kid who works in a governmental cabinet today and he must keep his tongue tied he just told me "look for it". So i googled this pic without knowing what it was. the picture was taken late on the prior friday evening (10pm). The ceremony did not appear in the official presidential calendar. Usually Le journal officiel publishes the agenda of every visit. The whole schedule for the Saudi Prince was there minus this. It only appeared on the official Saudi Kingdom press agency. Then i sent the whole thing to my editor. After 36 hours of a total blackout the news spread. People were outraged considering the number of people killed at Le Bataclan on the terraces of cafés last september. We all know Saudi Arabia enables ISIS with money. It just shows how complicated and disturbing this whole thing is.

Terrorists are just stupid people who are not inserted in society. Most of them are little crooks and were already condemned for common theft or drug dealing. They are not the brains behind this whole organization. It does not excuse them but they are just soldiers, it's been reported that most of them don't even have an ideology linked to radical Islam (if they were real muslims they wouldn't do what they do anyway).

We are now working with Al Assad, the one who permitted all this to grow. Obama does not care about this. I was talking with a french specialist on american culture and policy (she used to be my bff teacher at Sc. Po) and she told me that Hillary Clinton is very different from Obama on foreign policy.

Obama thinks the US should not intervene unless they are directly targeted. She on the other thinks that the US must get involved. I'm not Hillary supporter but frankly she's the only hope regarding what could become a third W.W. Trump would probably nuke the hell out of the whole region starting an endless war (his foreign policy councelors are well know controversial warmongers).

If only our governments would just stop an energy transition, stop using oil as the main one it would not only benefit the environment but it would slowly put an end to all these conflicts because they all are rooted in who is gonna own the oil and access to it. Religion is just a mask they put on it.

Sorry for the long post. I'm very tired and sad.

I hope we will stand together and not let this divide us because that's what they want, that's what terrorism is all about.

This reminds me when they told me that Al Assad buys oil from ISIS. Can you imagine, the president of Syria is funding the terrorist who are destroying his country?

We are only seeing a small part of the big picture.
