How Corperate America bought Hillary Clontin for $21 million

Follow the money. That telling phrase, which has come to summarize the Watergate scandal, has been a part of the lexicon since 1976. Its shorthand for political corruption: At what point do contributions become bribes, constituent services turn into quid pro quos and charities become slush funds?

Ronald Reagan was severely criticized in 1989 when, after he left office, he was paid $2 million for a couple of speeches in Japan. The founding fathers would have been stunned that an occupant of the highest office in this land turned it into bucks, sniffed a Columbia professor.

Bill and Hillary Clinton collected more than $48 million in speaking fees in the past few years.Photo: Getty Images

So what would Washington and Jefferson make of Hillary Rodham Clinton? Mandatory financial disclosures released this month show that, in just the two years from April 2013 to March 2015, the former first lady, senator and secretary of state collected $21,667,000 in speaking fees, not to mention the cool $5 mil she corralled as an advance for her 2014 flop book, Hard Choices.

Throw in the additional $26,630,000 her ex-president husband hoovered up in personal-appearance honoraria, and the nation can breathe a collective sigh of relief that the former first couple who, according to Hillary, were dead broke when they left the White House in 2001 with some of the furniture in tow can finally make ends meet.

No wonder Donald Trump calls her crooked Hillary.

A look at Mrs. Clintons speaking venues and the whopping sums shes received since she left State gives us an indication whos desperate for a place at the trough and whom another Clinton administration might favor.

First off, theres Wall Street and the financial-services industry. Democratic champions of the Little Guy are always in bed with the Street they dont call Barack Obama President Goldman Sachs for nothing, but Mrs. Clinton has room for Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice and their 10 best friends. Multiple trips to Goldman Sachs. Morgan Stanley. Deutsche Bank. Kohlberg Kravis Roberts. UBS Wealth Management.

As the character of Che Guevara sings in Evita: And the money kept rolling in. And all at the bargain price of $225,000 a pop . . . to say what? We dont know, because Hillary wont release the transcripts.

One has to wonder what corporations are getting for their money when Hillary Clinton shows up to speak.Photo: AP

Big Pharma and health-care companies also make the list; they want to keep on the good side of the woman who tried to force HillaryCare down our throats in 1993 and whos sure to morph ObamaCare into the single-payer socialized-medicine model so beloved of progressives. So say hello to the National Association of Chain Drug Stores ($225,000) and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society ($225,500).

The entertainment industry has an enormous effect on the popular culture, so no surprise seeing the A&E Networks on the list. American Jews donate lustily to the Democratic Party, so throw in the Beth El Synagogue in Minneapolis and the Jewish United Fund of Chicago.

The United Fresh Produce Association. The National Automobile Dealers Association ponied up $325,000. Even eBay forked over protection money, er, an honorarium. Because taking care of constituents is what the Clintons do as long as the constituents take care of them.

As Clinton Cash, a new documentary based on Peter Schweizers 2015 book, shows in excruciating, irrefutable detail, its always pay to play with the Clintons, whether personally or via their family racket, the Clinton Foundation (which includes the Clinton Global Initiative). Theyve sucked up vast sums of contributions from some of the most unsavory folks on the planet, including Nigerian dictators and Kazakhstani despots.

But its their parlaying of public service by two career civil servants into personal enrichment thats shameless.

Bill Clintons speaking fees skyrocketed just days after Hillarys nomination as secretary of state in 2009. Corporations, such as TD Bank, that had never paid a dime to hear him speak suddenly bellied up to the bar, waving fistfuls of cash. Coincidentally, TD Bank was the largest investor in the Keystone XL pipeline, which needed approval from the new secretary of state. Hillary dodged and weaved and Obama later nixed it but the Clintons kept the cash. It makes sense to make friends with the woman who might just be the next president. But what does that say about what the office has become?

As Obama has shown, theres now essentially no limit on the presidents power: He can dictate overtime wages (via executive decree), the forcible integration of the suburbs (via HUD) and even sexually integrate bathrooms (under Title IX). No wonder private companies want to cozy up to the White House. Your business is now the presidents business, if he or she wants it to be.

But, should Hillary attain the White House, you aint seen nothing yet. For the Clintons, who once rented out the Lincoln Bedroom, too much doesnt even approach being enough.

Emails Add to Hillary Clintons Central Problem: Voters Just Dont Trust Her

For more than a year, Hillary Clinton has traveled the country talking to voters about her policy plans. She vowed to improve infrastructure in her first 100 days in office, promised to increase funding for Alzheimers research and proposed a $10 billion plan to combat drug and alcohol addiction.

But as the Democratic primary contest comes to a close, any hopes Mrs. Clinton had of running a high-minded, policy-focused campaign have collided with a more visceral problem.

Voters just dont trust her.

The Clinton campaign had hoped to use the coming weeks to do everything they could to shed that image and convince voters that Mrs. Clinton can be trusted. Instead, they must contend with a damaging new report by the State Departments inspector general that Mrs. Clinton had not sought or received approval to use a private email server while she was secretary of state.

It is not just that the inspector general found fault with her email practices. The report speaks directly to a wounding perception that Mrs. Clinton is not forthright or transparent.

That's about as funny as your not knowing how the voting process works and then crying foul.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, a sociopath, Donald Trump is running for president. The rest of us have bigger things to worry about.

Voting for Hillary despite whatever she did with her damn emails TRUMPS bashing her and voting for Trump ANY day.

Jesus Christ

I'm almost compelled to vote for Trump. At least he's honest, as insane as that may sound. We all know he's a dick who will stop at nothing at getting what he wants. That's kind of admirable. Hillary pretends to be a sweet woman who cares about the gays (as of 2015) and woman, when in actuality she orchestrates coups, topples governments and basically did everything that we supposedly hated Bush for.

And honestly the whole wall thing is water under the bridge. It's silly. Hillary already helped build a huge hunk of it for him :lmao: shady ass bitch

Get out of here with that bullshit. I don't know why I'm wasting my time on someone who is openly pro-Jihadist and has copied and pasted propaganda from extremist organisations.

Release of Clintons Wall Street Speeches Could End Her Candidacy for President

The reason you and I will never see the transcripts of Hillary Clintons speeches to Wall Street fat-cats and the reason shes established a nonsensical condition for their release, that being an agreement by members of another party, involved in a separate primary, to do the same is that if she were ever to release those transcripts, it could end her candidacy for president.

Nor even that of the many neutral observers in the media who are deeply troubled by Clintons lack of transparency as to these well-compensated closed-door events a lack of transparency that has actually been a hallmark of her career in politics.

Nor do we even need to take Clintons word for it as we could certainly argue that her insistence that none of these transcripts ever be seen by the public is itself a confession that her words would cause significant trauma to her presidential bid.

In fact, it appears theyd cause enough trauma that Clinton would rather publicly stonewall to the point of being conspicuously, uncomfortably evasive in public debate after public debate, to endure damning editorial after damning editorial, and to leave thousands and thousands of voters further doubting her honesty and integrity, all to ensure that no one outside Goldman Sachs, and certainly no voter who wasnt privy to those closed-door speeches, ever hears a word of what she said in them.

A new poll out today taken from people in the "rust belt" which is the Michigan, Ohio, Penn area. Places where many people think Donald could score a lot of points with these people shows Hillary with still a healthy 7 point lead. Like I said I expect many of Hillary's numbers to get a nice bump once she secures the nomination and has the official backing of Bernie and the party as a whole. Add to it, Obama and Michelle out their helping her out in the future no doubt and she will have a good group of people standing beside her.

Democrats need to get their nominee in place.

It boggles my mind that ANYONE would think this man should be the President when he is such an immature lunatic. The way he attacks people is vile for someone running for the highest office on earth. It's also embarrassing as hell. People all over the world must think we are nuts.

Here he is attacking Warren on her claim that she has American Indian ancestors.....

It just amazes me that the same people that love Trump or the same ones that think Obama is the anti-Christ. A man who by and large has conducted himself like a class act and true Statesman for his entire Presidency whether you agree with some of his polices or not. I just don't get it.

There are rumors that Bernie and Trump might debate before the California primary. Would LOVE to see that!

I have seen parts of his New Mexico "performance". Man, this guy is annoying as fuck. Does he even talk about anything he wants to do if he becomes president? I'm unable to figure out. He always starts and after one sentence he changes the topic, usually doing the next personal attack on whoever he can't stand. And he is a liar. All his talk about trade agreements and the reasons for the huge trade deficit of the U.S. (from his perspective that is China of course) is so so wrong. The thing is, the reasons are not even so difficult to understand. It's first semester in business studies. But to his excuse he may not even have a degree. What is shocking is that you can present the truth to the people with the real facts and data, yet they believe the liar because it fits their mindset. And this is indeed why many people around the world believe that the U.S. has gone nuts. And all this talk about Trump being a great businessman. Give me a break. Just saw a documentary about him and his business practices. It was not a nice story. And HC was right to call him out on his Atlantic City endeavers. Building casinos and loosing money. Now that must be a first. Am I surprised? No. His buldings are horrible. Nothing outstanding or tasteful about it. Just as his buldings he is a pompous clown. In addition to that, he is not even such a huge builder. Take NY for instance. There are three or four big companies that build all the huge and impressive and not so impressive buildings for billions and billions of dollars. His name only comes up when he is selling one of his ugly appartments (to finance his nomination?) or if someone tries to sell an appartment in one of his buildings. Maybe he is hiding his involvements because hardly anyone wants to be associated with the guy.
