This is one of the worst songs ever released. Period. Everything about this is stale, bland, and it sounded dated the day after it was released. For the life of me, I can't figure out who thought this shit was a good idea.

And don't even get me started on the video.....

Tell me about it :rotfl:

She's always been awful. That Glam song is a tragic mess.

Let's not forget that she was SECOND choice for the VMA 2003 affair, after JLO. And mad as hell that Britney soaked up all the media attention from it while she was rarely ever mentioned. Madonna has been very protective, welcoming, motherly and warm towards her (as she usually is with the younger acts) and a few years later she thanked her by mentioning her in an interview in a very condescending way, so annoying and childish

Then she came back in 2010 with that ghastly piss poor album and that hideous tacky Burlesque movie and of course with that unfortunate Human Nature/EY high school tribute  (because she saw Gaga getting praised to the heavens while she was busy plagiarising Madonna's entire body of work, interview quotes included, so she thought it was a new industry model or something)

Christina Aguilera's 'Not Myself Tonight' video: Gone totally (Lady) Gaga, Madonna, or just desperate for relevance?

ChristinaAguilera_NotMyselfTonight02.jpg

The video for Christina Aguilera’s new single, “Not Myself Tonight,” hit the internets in the wee hours of the morning and immediately had the blogosphere—well, that’d be mostly one Mr. Perez Hilton—buzzing that it was a Lady Gaga rip-off. To be fair, it seems that Hilton thinks everything begins and ends with Gaga. But in this case, if you watch the clip after the jump, you’ll see that such a claim is by no means crazy talk.

In the video, Aguilera mostly prances around in various dominatrix-esque and lingerie-inspired outfits, sans any sort of storyline. You’ll see plenty of slick materials, exposed bras, and a whip. And, yes, there a few moments that are uncannily Gaga-ish. Two stick out in my mind: namely, those shots of Christina in white with a harem of dancers, and the moments where you see the diva, wet, in red lingerie. Just take a look here:

Truly, though, there’s another pop-diva influence clearly going on in this video, and her name starts with M. Could it be…Madonna? Yes, of course. Aguilera’s dominatrix outfit seems to be a clear nod to Madge in “Human Nature.” And those times where we see Aguilera amid mist at the top of those stairs, dressed as a German schoolmaster are reminiscent of Madonna’s “Express Yourself,” no? Are you seeing other Material Girl-inspired moments in the video?

The retort to this whole line of criticism, however, includes two arguments: 1) When it comes to Madonna, nearly every pop star has taken pieces of her performances/styling/etc. So there’s that. And then 2) With the Gaga argument, can we really fault Christina for taking from Gaga, when Gaga herself has so ripped from a variety of other artists? Then again, Gaga seems to rip from her musical influences and then blast it in a totally different direction. Right?

The worst part about Xtina’s video, beyond the rather unabashed unoriginality of it, is the sad stink of I’ve-been-gone-forever-had-a-baby-and-now-want-to-be-relevant-again desperation. Cue: the girl-on-girl makeout sessions! Text messaging! Fire balls! When watching, there’s wasn’t a moment where I didn’t feel like Aguilera was clawing for relevancy, in a crazy, far beyond, post-Aguilera world. True story: Aguilera has been gone for a long time. There’s a desperate need, sort of like when she blipped back for two seconds with “Keeps Gettin’ Better” a couple years ago, for her to resuscitate her look and build it in the image of what’s relevant now. But maybe she should have gone in a totally different direction to avoid comparisons? Given us something totally different? The thing about Aguilera is that she’s used to zig when everyone else was zagging. And now, it seems like she decided to zag along with everyone else.

Vapid, clueless entitled brat made entirely by Disney

Doesn't know about Desperately Seeking Susan, for a second or two

But Mary J Blige was quick putting her in her place, HA!

She stuck out her hand for me to kiss it     :rotfl:

I mean wtf, who does she think she is in the pop star firmament?

Not even Mariah is so annoying and has got at least a modicum of humour to her diva dahlin-ness

I would have Christina any day of the week over most of the bland nothings that are superstars today.  At least she was entertaining.

I guess this is around the time when Gaga's paid PR pieces begun. The short version is:

- Christina copied Gaga because she has dancers and prances around in lingerie and Madonna because it's kinda similar to Human Nature and Express Yourself. Everyone has copied Madonna though so copying her is no big deal. But Gaga... when Gaga takes from her musical influences she creates something new (unlike Madonna anf Christina I guess?) so Christina sucks and Gaga rocks.

Erm OK.

Another written piece excusing Gaga of her obvious plagiarism, while condemning dumb Christina for doing same thing.😳

Just interesting how many times I've seen written & even monsters complaining about how other artists rip off their mommy, but look the other way when she does it.

oh, wow, the video is almost a copy of Madonna's "Express Yourself". I did not even know Christina was still releasing music and videos as I lost track of her a while ago... Actually, the song is ok, the video has is ok too (well, EY is one of the best videos ever!)

Totally get what you mean about the annoying paid pieces in favour of Gaga, we still see them to this day. The fact is that Gaga's voice was compared to Christina's at the beginning. When Christina came back in 2010 with a new studio album after a 4 year hiatus (a lot for someone barely a decade into fame) Gaga had been all the rage for the past 18 months and she saw the constant comparison to Madonna as well as far as feminism etc and being the prototype for the woman in charge of her own career she thought to reiterate the Madonna association herself seeing how much coverage it was giving Gaga.

Then when Gaga was on the down side circa ARTPOP 3 years later Christina joined forces for a one off performance

And famously said: you deserve eveything you get, I'm sure Gaga was too stoned on LIVE TV to get what she meant

Well at least Xtina did say that the video was a homage to Madonna who she thinks is the epitome of a bionic woman. Gaga, on the other hand.....
