Madonna Instagram Thread

For an evolved, strong and talented woman, she can be so fucking stupid sometimes. I am quite appalled she posted a photo of Thatcher who is loathed by most people (ie not the rich) in the UK and especially Scotland, where I live. Thatcher was an evil woman who did not give a fuck about the people in the UK. She was a power hungry, homophobic, vile human being. For Madonna to post a photo of her has actually gutted me a bit. I don't care if she took it down. She needs to think before she posts. Her comments about Nazi France and now this, she's actually coming across as an ill-informed ignorant person.

Get a grip, Madonna doesn't have to be your protective monster mother  Madonna has never been the mother Teresa.

She's not talking into a bowl, the camera is filming through a bowl (and recording the sound from there too). Madonna's talking and "ruining his video".

To Madmex, before you edited your post. The age of consent should be equal for everyone, as Madonna has repeatedly promoted. In fact she was one of the most prominent advocates for equality and gay visibility, helping immensely, which is why the Thatcher thing is so disappointing.

She made a booboo. She amended her caption and then rightfully deleted. Rational minds knew what she meant by the original post anyway. It's over.

Much ado about nothing.

On to the next ridiculous Instagram scandal. (Queen of Relevancy).

Like others have been saying, M just seems to be naive about politics at times!

Some of her political viewpoints and rants have made some people roll their eyes because they come across as simple minded fluff, but she has good intentions.

Do think that M at least on the surface is sympathetic toward some right leaning figures on the political spectrum. Get the feeling some fans hold far left beliefs in politics, but honestly think M does not share as many leftist views as people think . There are reasons why leftist and marxist journalists continue to criticize M from everything pertaining to her adoption of African children, building schools in Malawi, minimizing Wallis Simpson sympathy toward Nazism, and her questionable remarks on women being more discriminated against than gay and blacks, etc.

Agree with other fans here who are SICK and TIRED of the PC online making some forms of speech completely unacceptable and worthy of public shaming. Rather have M be herself and post whatever she wants, but the truth is that in today's changing world, her viewpoints on different subjects get people pissed off.

It totally sucks. Don't think social media culture is changing anytime soon. Enjoy the music and upcoming amazing tour :excl:

I'm not Joan of Arc not yet. I'm only human.

She made a mistake. Perhaps, she wasn't fully aware of everything Tatcher did. Hell, even I didn't know about that. Not everyone knows everything. She deleted it. Clearly, the woman recognized it was a mistake posting it. It's time to move on.

Madonna is a mainstream liberal like most of the Democratic party in the US. She's expressed her support for President Obama and Hillary Clinton. I wouldn't call that rightist, it certainly is pretty much to the left of the US political spectrum. Certainly her views have nothing in common with Reagan, Bush or Margaret Thatcher. No, she isn't of the extreme left or Communist persuasion, the type of people who say that President Obama is a sell out or too conservative for them. Marxism or socialism may be part of the political discussion in parts of Europe, but it's really so far off the agenda in the US. I would say she is pretty far to the left as far as most people in the US, part of what is considered the progressive community.

I'm so intrigued by the different perspectives on this latest social media fiasco. Regardless of political persuasion, it seems rather transparent that a woman who essentially defined pop culture for a white majority in the western world during the decade Margaret Thatcher was prime minister of a floundering empire is unable to foresee context and general consensus.

I understand how controversial it seems to have become for Madonna to voice a supposed minority opinion, but it is more the case for her fan base among themselves. We can't criticize or be objective about this woman for fear we are contributing to her downfall. You see, I've pedestaled Madonna for over thirty years, and while there have been difficult passages along the way when I found it tedious or uninteresting to seek personal meaning and relatability in her work or life force, I never found resounding evidence of her apparent stupidity.

Sadly, to someone like myself who has lived as many years pre-digital revolution as post, Ladonna's poorly contextualized Instagram rants only bolster the notion that she is alienated in a world of privilege and elitism that she isn't about to give up or truly question no matter how

many Rav Bergs tell her fairytales with pedestrian moral epiphanies. It may work for her and give her a thrill and a buzz in her own world, but if the thunderous response to her nonsense only makes her feel emboldened and incapable of questioning herself and examining her symbolic cultural impact and how it has evolved, grown or dissipated, then she is clearly losing the plot altogether.

Instagram may be fun and may have given us a false sense of insight into her apparently very shallow world, but in terms of her legacy as a cultural icon, she has essentially defined the footnote of her career and made it clear that she is repeating the wrong mantra if she wants to be empowered to change the world while still having her engorged ego stroked. Think Bedtime Story rather than Human Nature! Not so ironic that she is more partial to the latter.

Again, I don't care if she thinks Maggie Thatcher is a heroine. Everyone can be seen as positive or negative in different contexts. However, she certainly was no rebel heart if I have understood at all what a rebel heart is, and making such a controversial homage a day after announcing a second tour date going on sale in the country most affected by Thatcherism that hasn't shown much enthusiasm for all things Madonna related in almost a decade is neither the sign of a master marketer not a great thinker. It is the mark of a narcissistic person in deep need of some honest self-questioning, and a good slap across the cheek, which metaphorically leads me to believe that maybe she underestimated her public more often than the other way around.
