How was it like? What was it like when the world was black and white? When she invented fire? When she came to Rome to see Caesar? The crucifixion? The parting of the Red Sea? We had our blackout curtains drawn so the gerries could not see to drop their bombs. Mum would be painting seams up the back of her legs with bisto because stockings were in short supply. We all had rickets and all I had to play with was an empty can, a stick and the odd sex starved American GI. We were poor but we were happy.
