Shine
I agree. I'd just add ROL, which was her "rise like a phoenix" phase after the mid-90s backlash.
Guest Peter1984
Have you seen the crown on LAP cover? For it is the answer for this question.
Crom
I get what you say. I was little during the LAP and BAT era, but whenever someone mentioned her name it already felt like they were talking about someone iconic as Elvis or Marilyn Monroe. I don't really know how to explain it, but her name alone brings all sorts of ideas and concepts and images to mind. Try saying it a bunch of times M A D O N N A +1000
cruncher9123
Can someone please direct me to the video where Madonna (with possibly dark hair and surrounded by people) looks into the camera and says, "Do you wanna fuck us?"

Pedro
I've been a major adoring fan since borderline, but I think that for the general public she became this icon-legend after COADF, for the reasons that Preston stated previously
jaiami
She bacame a legend the minute she was born. She became legendary the minute she took the stage. A moment in her legendary life:
s7ven
I believe she became a STAR with Like a Virgin; a SUPERSTAR with True Blue; a ROCKSTAR with Like a Prayer; and an ICON during the IC/BAT era. But the backlash from the SEX/Erotica era is what cemented her status as a LEGEND.I mean COME ON! Can you beat this?
elijah
Whatever they were thinking, after Vogue no one could ever question her icon status. I think that after it, she has always been the biggest female singer on the world.

MotorCityMax
When she was on the cover of Playboy and Penthouse at the same time she married Sean Penn, and became even more popular, her legend was certain.
Guest
I agree, Like a prayer/ Blond Ambition era was whens he was a legend.
