What if I'm addicted was the LEAD single?

Oh and you're a fan of the dumb fuck Lady Gaga and she is a definite example of somebody who makes music that her fans want to hear. I mean, does she make music like any of the other musicians she adores? Did she stick with her sound from pre fame? Nope. She was organised and marketed by a record label. Madonna on the other hand did not become famous until after co-writing and co-producing her own music on a very small budget. Then Madonna kept that ethos and energy in ALL of her music for thirty years. You dumb fuck.

Of course Gaga is manufactured to the extreme, but let's not pretend that MDNA wasn't, heck Madonna couldn't even be bothered to really write the songs herself, instead just changing a few words from what I heard.

Yes, I'm sure a facebook message written by money hungry manager is 100% accurate of what Madonna wants.

Obviously it was if that was the type of album she made and brought to life on tour, where almost half the set list was comprised of MDNA tracks.

One thing anyone cant say is that Madonna dislikes the MDNA material. She CLEARLY made music she wants to listen to. Songs like Superstar and Bday Song never made it on the album because thats what the public wanted looool

You're so simple.

Lady Gaga's new song is begging you to applaud her. She is openly admitting she's desperate for applause.

In Madonna's lead single she had the lyric 'I see you comin' and I DON'T wanna know your name'. Plus a song called 'I DON'T GIVE A'. Madonna involved Kazaky, Kalakan trio and a fucking Lady Gaga song in her tour. It's not like she was seeking approval. :chuckle: Madonna chose songs that she liked, wrote melodies, added vocals etc to varying degrees. If you actually did some research you would find that she made huge changes on some of the pre written tracks such as Gang bang. Madonna isn't a cookie cutter artist and her soul is in it but let's face it...what she does on tour just cannot be replicated on a CD. Madonna is a live artist. That's the odd thing about people like you suggesting she's pandering to radio etc. She makes music that gives her energy and therefore inspiration. QUITE CLEAR TO ANYBODY THAT HAS HALF A BRAIN LET ALONE A SUPPOSED MADONNA FAN.

This was my favorite song on the album but I understand why Give Me All Your Lovin' exists.

GMAYL is great in the album context but too much weak as a 1st single.

some of my friends who are only casual madonna fans adore GMAYL. I never understood some of the hate for it, but understand why people feel its a shitty first single(and agree with).

If i'm addicted was the first single from the album, you know for sure she would def. be playing it again on future tours!

I guess it doesn't matter. What's done is done. Nothing is gonna change. Most of what people think here is subjective anyway. There is really no real way to know that "I'm Addicted" would have done any better that GMAYL. Though, I do think she is the type of artist who will perform non-singles or non-popular singles again if she really likes them. For instance, "Human Nature"! Who would have thought that she would have pulled that out so many times on tour? For me, it totally makes sense since the song directly expresses who she is and what she believes in about not being afraid to express yourself, etc. It's become a signature message/song of her career now. Though, why not pull out "Express Yourself" instead since it's far more known and far more popular? To me, "Human Nature" has more of a punch to the message than "Express Yourself". "Human Nature" also conveys more... such as she doesn't give a shit what people think. So yeah, I don't think she necessarily passes on performing a song just because it wasn't picked as a single or because it's not a popular song.

I've always loved the song, from the moment they leaked that snippet last year. My ex finally got into the song after seeing her perform it live. I still don't think it would have made a good single for the masses. It's like "Impressive Instant." We all love it, and the clubs would eat it up, but I don't think pop radio would embrace it, even when they still played Madonna.

I think fans would have been much happier, critics would have been nicer, and it probably would have been a hit in Europe, but I don't think it would have changed much in terms of the U.S. radio or sales.

I agree with this.

The main benefit, in my view, would've been a lead single that truly represented the aggressive, and somewhat dark, nature of MDNA.

GMAYL just felt like mindless fluff thrown to the wind. "I'm Addicted" would've felt more like a full-frontal assault.

I think the only way this album would ve been a sucess is by releasing these songs in this order:

I m Addicted

Love Spent

Beautiful Killer

Whatever...

Why? Because IA and LS are simply the best songs on the album. In the past for singles she simply went with the best songs on the album. For example, the first time I heard BS the songs that stod out very obviously were Secret and TAB and they were released. She has to forget commercialism at this point (tryig to replicate Katy Perrys sound on GMAYL? Sorry but Katy is shit no matter how sucessful she is in the USA) and just go with the song thats most appealing, clever, with the most pleasant sounding structure. In the case of MDNA those were IA and LS. Add to these brilliant videos (Mark Romanek anyone?) and she would ve been the queen of cool. But she choose safe which was never a good option for her (with the exception of HU).

Interscope would've never let her release it!

Actually, that's part of the problem with anything she releases from here on out under her current deal.

There isn't that Warner Bros.-style backing for singles... Interscope kind of puts out the album for LiveNation whose sole interest is in tour revenue. She doesn't have a label who is invested in successful singles because a) the music industry is completely different now and b) they really don't stand to profit from a hit should she have one.

One of my top 3 songs from the album, but had it been the lead single, we wouldn't have had the cheerleader bit for the Superbowl performance. And Nicki & MIA on the 1st single gave MDNA some much needed extra buzz, lets be reeeeeeeal.

I have some weird idea that if she really had wanted to, she coulda made the cheerleader thing work with the MDNA chant.

Actually, YES! I imagine an all black cheerleader uniform accented by gold pom-poms. Think the Superbowl Performance outfit WITH the GMAYL hairstyle.

A thousand times YES. That's exactly what I was gonna say. The Superbowl hairstyle needed some more sex to it, like she came on after a good session with Brahim. So hot, the performance woulda been ace. But shoulda, coulda, woulda.

The only thing that would've happened is the diehard fans would be wondering how on earth the single and album "flopped" with such a great lead single.

I'm Addicted is my favorite song on the album but it's not very radio friendly. As generic as the single choices may seem, they really are the most obvious sounding "singles" on the album.

Yes I think I'm Addicted was one of the songs she had alot of input in wasn't it?

We don't really know anything about how "I'm Addicted" came to life - but none of the other co-writers speak any English = Madonna must have written the lyrics all by herself.

I agree.GMAYL may not be the best track on the album, but it was the perfect track to perform at the Super Bowl. The "L-U-V Madonna!" chant seems to have been written especially for the Superbowl.

I think Gang Bang could have been a good lead single although probably not safe enough for US radio.

I don't think "Gang Bang" could have been a single *anywhere*.It's a great song, but much too controversial/violent/offensive to be a single.
