I understand why people here are all of a sudden (or maybe not so all of a sudden) cooling off on Hillary, but personally, I'm still behind her. Here is a woman who the Republicans have tried to destroy for 20+ years and she keeps coming back. I admire her resilience and although Bernie is closer to my personal beliefs (pssst...I secretly still want Elizabeth Warren), Clinton is tough and she's weathered many storms. Republicans fear her (which is why they talk nonstop about her email server and Benghazi). She has the greater potential for down-ticket effect (and we need that to gain ground in the Senate and House).

If you think slightly conservative independents are going to swing toward a self-avowed socialist, think again. I still think we need the candidate with the broadest appeal.

So you can say she's old and old news (and yeah, maybe she is)...she's really our best bet unless Elizabeth runs. Bernie is great, but I just don't see him winning the general election. He doesn't have the demographic pull she does.

Bernie makes people feel passionate. He's not a radical and he's already ahead of Clinton in certain key states, and the debates haven't even started. Just because he's not afraid to call himself a socialist, a word people don't even understand, doesn't mean he's going to turn off Americans. Just watch the video up there where he gives a talk at a bible thumping university. He gave a response to a very, VERY controversial topic and nobody booed him, people politely applauded and some even cheered.

Hillary's such a polarising figure that had that been her, everyone would've booed her.

Also, none of the reasons you mentioned maker her the best choice for America. I personally think she's an awful woman and I kind of don't give a shit which party wins if she wins the primaries.

People that are afraid of the word "socialist" would never vote for a democrat in the first place no matter what.

I am glad Bernie is actually OWNING the word and informing people that its not this scary thing that its been made out to be considering we have SO many socialized things in this country as it is, yet people on the right cant seem to wrap their heads around that.

Also its amazing that an older man is clicking with soooooooooooooo many young voters. They love the guy. I cant see young people rushing out to vote for Hillary or being excited about her at all.

I break with ULIZOS when he says he doesn't care who wins if Hillary is the nominee. Again I will still be voting for Hillary. The thought of one of those nut bag republicans getting to appoint people to the supreme court makes me ill.

Also don't know how true it is since Biden seems to conflicted on if he is running, but there have been rumors of a possible Biden/Warren ticket which I would love also.

I understand what you are saying, but if you look beyond early state polling, Hillary is still the clear favorite. She's 30+ points ahead in South Carolina and Florida. Once again, she is likely to win the delegate-rich states like NY and California (which Obama lost). I am not saying it can't change, and if Bernie somehow wins, I'd definitely vote for him, but I don't think Hillary is a bad candidate at all. We can disagree on that, obviously.

I think there are a lot of women - old and young - who are energized by a Hillary victory. I don't think she has the wide-spread appeal that Obama had among young voters, but she would more than make up that voter loss by gaining women who are older, and possibly more conservative. Also, if it comes down to Hillary vs. ANY REPUBLICAN running right now, I can't possibly believe anyone thinks she's just as bad. That whole party is fucking joke these days. Even their supposed strongest candidate (Bush) is losing donors left and right.

They're not even sure if Biden is going to run. And the fact that they put him in the polling is what brings Hillary down in some states.

Is there a reason why so few dems are jumping in to run, and just about every clown on the republican side is running?

Personally, I think it's two reasons:

  1. Everyone knew Hillary would run - and probably win. So it sort of froze out the field. I also think the Clintons made a point to meet with the real threat to her campaign - Elizabeth Warren - early on. If Elizabeth ran, I am not sure if Hillary would have.
  2. The Democratic bench right now is pretty thin. This is what happens when Republican sweep state governments (2010-2014). They have more "rising stars" than the Democrats do, but honestly, look at the caliber.

For future Democratic primaries, I think Corey Booker will run at some point. Possibly Joaquin or Julian Castro as well. I am not sure Elizabeth Warren ever will if she doesn't do it now. Maybe Kamala Harris from California will run. She'd be a strong candidate some day.

If Marco Rubio doesn't win the GOP nomination this time, I think he's got a good shot in 2020. He's definitely being groomed by the GOP establishment to be the heir. They are also starting to position Jeb's son, George P. Bush to be a power player in 2020 or 2024. He's already ascending in Texas politics. That family will never give up on owning the White House.

I agree. Hillary is a typical, shady politician who works for the billionaires, not the middle class and the poor. I don't trust her, and many people don't trust her either. I will not vote for this woman. I will vote for a 3rd party candidate if Bernie is not the nominee.

Couldn't agree more. I understand that some people don't like Hillary but voting Republican just because she could be the Democratic candidate is completely retarded. At the end of the day, Hillary would still be better than ALL Republican candidates combined.

Now i won't be able to vote since i'm not American and i hope Bernie will get the nomination but i really hope that if Hillary get the nomination, people who supported Bernie will vote for her instead of the Republican candidate. It's a question of common sense, Republicans are a pure group of theocratic fascists at this point and will ruin America if they get to the White House.

Bless Bernie but he's telling you everything you want to hear just like Obie did. Just like Warren would. Once they get into office, it'll be a different story not becuz they have hidden motives but becuz that's the nature of being president. Look what happened to Obama. Probably the most pivotal president ever and yet this forum dumps on him every chance they get because they feel they were duped. Hilarious considering the massive things that have been accomplished in his president, but here we are debating whether he was a good prez or not. But that's Washington. A progressive candidate will go into office ready to change Washington and will come out with some change. A bit of change.

It sounds cynical but even if Hillarious is a shady candidate, I'm not naive enough to think that Bernie is going to wind up being this utopian progressive mirage of a president. It doesn't work like that.

So while I would support Bernie if he were nominated, Hillary is likely gonna go all the way (she's a high risk candidate but the likely nominee nonetheless). You gotta think bottom line. The republicans don't have anyone. Like literally no one. 16 candidates and not 1 of them seem like they would be able to govern. It's breathtaking.

Hillary and Bernie wipe up the floor with them in every single category. Hillary may be establishment but she'll be more than qualified to hold office. if Bernie goes all the way then great. But I'm not holding my breath.

I honestly don't like any of these candidates. Hillary is tired and Bernie is too old. I wish President Obama could run again. Is it late to change the Constitution!

He said he could easily win a third term! No wonder with these losers around!

So, you don't like Bernie because he's too old? Really? :dazed: Oh yes, let's have Obama run again. Maybe we'll get TPP passed after all! Maybe Keystone, too? He's the perfect corporate president! :ohno:

The difference is that Obama is tied to the billionaires. Look at who has contributed to his campaign. Bernie is not paid for by the billionaires and has never been. Look at his record. Bernie has maintained his stance on these issues since the '80s. His record is consistent. I don't expect miracles if he becomes president. That just isn't going to happen. But, at least we will have a candidate in office who actually stands for the working class and not the billionaires.

At least Brazil got it right ...

I don't understand when Sanders supporters say things like "Well I GUESS she's better than Trump" re: Hillary. This happened on Facebook a couple of times this week. Are you fucking kidding me?

I respect that some people don't like her because it's politics as usual, Wall Street ties, etc. but she's NOWHERE near the Republicans on gay rights, abortion, living wage, etc. And let's face it, the social issues are all this current batch of Republicans care about. They will undo everything Obama has done and possibly try to lead us toward a theocracy, especially if we have a Republican President AND Congress.

Someone earlier said that a Republican can't win, but remember: the old bigots ALWAYS vote. The Dems don't always vote. And they have to this time, truly.

Whether it's Clinton, Sanders, or Biden, it's a lot better than the clown parade on the other side.

Eh, I'm not buying it. His presidency will be just like Obama's if he wins. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But that's what I'd expect.

Are you for real? You won't vote for him because of THAT? :manson:

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! Completely agree. The Hillary bashing became more and more ridiculous with time. I'm not the biggest fan of her, i don't agree with some of the political choices she made but people are constantly trying to portray her as this absolute monster who's as bad as the Republicans. Ridiculous, just ridiculous.

I mean, i saw some Bernie supporters saying that if Hillary get the Democratic nomination, they'll vote for the Republican candidate instead. Or some people saying they'd not vote for her because "they're tired of political dynasties". I just can't believe this kind of shit, it's beyond absurd. People need to vote based on reality, not emotions. And the reality is: if a Republican get to the White House, we can say goodbye to America.

I am for real! When you vote for someone, you are not voting just for their opinions and policies, but whether you think they have the personal qualities to do the job. I agree the most with all of Bernie's political opinions. But being President is a tough job that requires a lot of stamina and force of personality to work with Congress and get your policies enacted. I don't see that Bernie has that for a lot of reasons not just his age, but he was kind of an outsider and outcast in Congress. How many bills did he get passed?

Say whatever you want about President Obama, he gets things done! He passed the health care bill and the nuclear agreement with Iran. He has a certain energy, personality and charisma that makes him able to put his policies into action. I don't see that Bernie has that.

And there is no similiarity between Madonna and Bernie Sanders in terms of age. Madonna is still full of energy and passion and life. Bernie when I see him on tv, he just looks tired. I don't see he has the strength and the vigor to be President. It is a very stressful job with a lot of pressures. Just my opinion.

Ok... Let's agree to disagree i guess. I do agree with you when it comes to Obama though. But try to be more open minded when it comes to Bernie, you can't know how good of a President he would be. I really think he would work hard to get things done, he's always been consistent. He's one of the few genuine politicians out there, he would do a lot of good to America if elected.

Exactly. Come supreme court time Hillary is not going to nominate right wing loons that could overturn things like abortion, or even gay marriage if they wanted. I don't put ANYTHING past these guys. That's why NO MATTER WHAT I will be voting dem.

Eh, I'm not buying it. His presidency will be just like Obama's if he wins. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But that's what I'd expect.

Well some people have this idea that the President is an elected dictator. That he can sweep right in and make all the changes he wants. Honestly its pathetic how most people have NO CLUE how bills are passed and how change takes place. Like I said, Obama really only had two years to get as much done as possible. Once the house went back to the republicans, that was it.

The same thing could easily happen to Bernie. He could win, but not have a congress to work with and we will be back in the same place. But at least to me a Bernie win will hopefully start to show elected people that YESSSSSSS for Christ sake this country is moving FORWARD. That this is the CHANGE we REALLY do want! I mean they tried to scare us with Obama saying this is the most liberal man to ever run. OOooooooh scary! Twice elected by a large margin. Could you imagine the head scratching they would be forced to do if a proud democratic socialist wins! A man that isn't afraid of the word or runs from it.

And I agree with what was said. Bernie has been in politics for decades. The man has held the same positions and has been passionate about the same things since day one. Its not like Obama where when he first ran and he had to claim he was for traditional marriage which we all know was bullshit, but in 2008 the scale had not tipped in favor of gay marriage yet. Or at least not enough for a person running for President at the time to be able to feel safe to be honest about it.

And again. The democrats and liberals REALLLLLLLY need to stress how important mid term elections are. The fact of the matter is most of this group only comes out once every 4 years, and then goes back into hibernation until the next 4 roll around. Its sad, and at this point there should be no excuse.

You know, until the U.S. gets rid of that Citizens United ruling which unleashed unlimited money into election campaigns, ANYONE who wants to win the Presidency will rely on billionaires. I am not saying it's cool or ok, but it's reality. Even if Bernie won the Democratic nomination, he would have to solicit money from wealthy donors to compete against the Republican candidate. $15 million per quarter from small donors (every day people) isn't going to cut it against the GOP who are planning to raise $1 billion from the 1% for their shady super PAC's.

Another reason I am for Hillary is her ability to fund raise against the GOP. It's not like it's some shiny quality, but she's a strong work horse for raising campaign money. The Clintons have the best network (outside of Obama) for donors. In fact, several members of Obama's campaign apparatus are working on Hillary's campaign which would seem to imply that he too believes she's the strongest contender, otherwise he would've advised them to go with Bernie.

Why would they go with Bernie? He will not take the special interest money. That's why they went with Hillary.

I completely disagree. Bernie is passionate in what he says and does and actually remains consistent (no flip-flopping like most candidates). Obama has done some great things. I won't deny that. However, he's also the guy who wants to pass TPP...

What's Hillary's stance on the TPP?

It's things like this which explain why I will not vote for Hillary. I just can't bring myself to do it. I don't trust her. I will not vote Republican as a protest vote either. The Republican party is crazy all around. However, when it comes to economic issues, I often wonder if there's really that big of a difference between both parties. Aren't they really just looking to please their corporate masters?
