Roland Barthes Posted May 31, 2013 Share Posted May 31, 2013 Around the release of MDNA there was a rumour going around that Madonna had recorded her version of "Kids" a song Kelis had recorded for her album and did not use. It's written by Jean-Baptiste who collaborated on both mdna & Kelis's Flesh tone album. "The rumour about Madonna recording Kids is totally true. I've asked Jean Baptiste about it a few months ago and he replied he offered the song to Madonna and she actually recorded her own version. Madonna listened to 3 leftovers from Flesh Tone, copenned by Jean Baptiste, and Madonna picked Kids, so it's part of the tracks she cut for the album. Kelis' version was coproduced by Boys Noize, I don't know Madonna's. At this stage, I don't know whether Kids will make the final cut or not, as Jean has been pretty vague last time we chatted, but a Madonna sung version of it does exist. Particularly in place of some of the more vapid things on MDNA. But then knowing she left Across the Sky and Animal on the floor in favour of Dance 2Night I'd believe it. Baby, however, would have been phenomenal. This song would have been great with Rescue Me-style spoken verses. I pray a Madonna version of Kids and Baby leak one day, if they exist. (Obviously most of GMAYL's lyrics would've had to be re-written and the whole "cuteness" would've been lost, but I think it would've been much better that way.)
