Anderson Cooper, Ford Model, 1979

When Anderson’s father died of a heart attack, he says that he suddenly became concerned with making money. Naturally, the best course of action for any 10-year-old boy is to become a Ford model. He made $75 an hour to model “big boys’ spring jackets” and other totally high-fashion spreads!

Anderson:

I learned this weekend that Madonna is going to present the GLAAD award to me on March 16th at the GLAAD thing. I’m incredibly excited. I sort of don’t believe it’s true. I can’t believe she’s actually going to come and hand me an award.

I went to see three of her concerts, this past tour. I’m like the oldest groupie in the world. I saw her in Paris. I saw her in the Yankee Stadium and at Madison Square Garden. I kept hoping/not hoping that she was going to put the microphone for me to sing, because I couldn’t sing.

She is so good in concert. She does this thing where she gives the microphone to someone in the audience and they sing one of the songs. She said to this guy “Are you ready?” and handed him the mic and he totally fumbled it. She was like “You’re not ready” and then I was like “Oh my God, that would have been me.” So I was so happy I didn’t get called upon.

NY Post Denied Press Pass to GLAAD Media Awards for History of Anti-Trans Coverage #glaadawards

The 2013 GLAAD Media Awards take place in Manhattan on Saturday, where Madonna will present Anderson Cooper with the Vito Russo Award. Not in attendance will be the New York Post, whose press pass request has been denied due to the paper's history of nasty references to transgender people. GLAAD writes:

GLAAD was founded in 1985 to challenge The New York Post's blatantly anti-gay coverage of the HIV/AIDS crisis. More than 27 years later, the paper continues to defame the LGBT community with its sensational framing of transgender stories and its disgraceful practice of referring to transgender people with vulgar slurs. "The Post has been digging its feet in the ground for too long on this issue," said GLAAD President Herndon Graddick. "Transgender people, particularly those who are victims of crime, deserve more than the vile slurs and underhanded 'jokes' with which the Post describes them. Until this paper changes its ways and apologizes for the damage done, GLAAD has no interest in supporting their work."

Just last week a Post headline [ http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/mere_slap_for_beat_bravest_zDn5h4x5VXvIO4NLaT4U6K ] used the word "she-male" to describe the victim of an assault by a New York City fireman.
