Second Madonna concert in Abu Dhabi announced head-to-head

Madonna is set for a second date with her fans on June 4, while Elton John performs on March 29 in Abu Dhabi

It looks like the diva wars are coming to Abu Dhabi. Well, kind of. Following the announcement of Madonna's second date at Yas Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, Sir Elton John has also been booked for a gig at the same venue, on an earlier date.

John, who will perform with fellow Englishman Ray Cooper, is set for a March 29 performance while Madonna will now perform two nights on June 3 and 4.

The warring musical legends have often taken jabs at each other. Before Madonna's now legendary Super Bowl half-time show performance earlier this month, John was asked what advice he would give to her. "Make sure you lip-sync good," he had quipped.

Flash Entertainment, who announced yesterday Madonna would perform a second concert, said it was due to "overwhelming fan demand in the Middle East". Tickets for the singer's June 3 concert went on sale on Monday, and sold out in less than two hours.

Disappointed fans who could not get tickets for the first show posted angry messages on Flash Entertainment's Facebook page on Monday.

Tickets for the second concert, which will go on sale on March 5, will be priced the same as the first one. A limited quantity of General Admission tickets will go on sale initially for Dh250 with the rest priced at Dh495. Grandstand tickets will cost Dh695 and Golden Circle tickets, right next to the stage, will be Dh1,095. VIP hospitality packages will also be available at Dh2,295.

Virgin Megastore outlets in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and thinkflash.ae will sell the tickets.

A Flash spokesperson yesterday said ticket details of John's concert will be revealed today.

Madonna World Tour confirms second and final show

The Madonna dance party keeps getting bigger.

Following a record sell-out of her Abu Dhabi show on June 3 and after a series of one-day sellouts in many of the major markets of Madonna’s tour, due to the overwhelming fan demand in the Middle East, FLASH Entertainment has announced that a second and final concert - June 4 at the Yas Arena, Yas Island - has been confirmed and will go on sale next Monday, March 5, at midday.

“The excitement in Abu Dhabi and the region has culminated in a record sell-out of the June 3 show,” said Mira Sadek from FLASH. “We are pleased to announce Madonna’s second and final show on June 4.”

“Without a doubt, Madonna has become the number one selling show in the region,” added Sadek.

Tickets will go on sale for the public on Monday March 5, midday, from www.thinkflash.ae and select Virgin Megastore outlets in Dubai and Abu Dhabi (Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Mall and Abu Dhabi Mall).

Ticket prices remain the same as the first show with General Admission tickets starting at Dhs250 (limited quantity) with remaining tickets at Dhs495, all-seated Grandstand at Dhs695 and Golden Circle tickets at Dhs1,095. A limited quantity of VIP hospitality packages will also be available at Dhs2,295. Each VIP Hospitality package will include a Golden Circle ticket to see Madonna live in Abu Dhabi, exclusive tour gift, official tour programme, a dedicated VIP reception, a commemorative tour laminate, a private entrance to the concert site and a VIP parking pass (limited quantity).

For those coming from Dubai, there will be an iMan Bus service available for Dhs85 which must be purchased with concert tickets.

What will Madonna bring to Russia this time?

In August, the famous US pop diva Madonna will give concerts in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The tickets are already on sale.

These concerts are part of the diva’s world tour to present her new album called “M.D.N.A.” The tour will start on May 29 in Israel. The singer is planning to visit 26 cities in Europe, and also Australia and South America. She will spend one week in Russia.

This is the third time that Madonna comes to Russia. Her previous two visits were accompanied by rumors, scandals and protests – and its looks like this one will be too.

When Madonna came to Moscow in 2006, the organizers, at first, were at loss where particularly she would sing. In the end, they chose the gigantic Luzhniki stadium, where rock and pop concerts are often held. But a rumor suddenly appeared that the diva’s voice, reinforced by multiple microphones, would be so powerful that the stadium’s roof might fall! Then, a fortnight before the day when Madonna was to come, another rumor appeared on the Web: supposedly, the singer wouldn’t come to Russia because a certain fortune-teller had told her that some misfortune might happen to her there. Besides, a group of Orthodox Christians protested against Madonna’s concert in Moscow, because in one of her previous concerts, she appeared in the pose of crucified Jesus, and some believers found it a blasphemy.

Despite all these rumors and scandals, that time, tickets for Madonna’s concert sold well, but not as well as expected. The Luzhniki stadium can hold 70,000 spectators, but less than 40,000 came to listen to the pop star.

In 2009, Madonna sang in St. Petersburg – and, again, problems appeared about where she would sing. The show’s organizers were insisting that it should take place in St. Petersburg’s main square – Dvortsovaya, or Palace, Square, near Zimniy Dvorets (the Winter Palace), which, before the Bolshevik revolution, was the main residence of the Russian emperors, and now holds one of the world’s most famous museums, the Hermitage. However, the Hermitage’s director Mikhail Piotrovsky does not like it when rock or pop concerts are held near the museum. He believes that the powerful sound may cause damage to the museum’s walls or to the pictures exhibited there. Mr. Piotrovsky agreed only when the show’s organizers promised to him that this would be the last ever concert near the Hermitage’s walls.

Another peculiar fact connected with that concert is that St. Petersburg’s Communists, for some reason, tried to use it to advertise their party. They asked Madonna to decorate her show with red flags, five-pointed stars and other Communist symbols. However, the diva rejected this idea.

It rained on the day of the concert in St. Petersburg, but, still, about 50,000 people came to Dvortsovaya Square to listen to Madonna.

However, the spectators’ opinions were sometimes quite different. For example, one girl enthusiastically exclaimed:

“The show was top class! Madonna is still as young, beautiful and talented as she was in the early days of her career.”

But another girl wrote on the Web:

“The show was well organized, Madonna was in a good sporting form, but I couldn’t remember the words of her songs however hard I tried… Madonna very artistically exploits people’s eternal interest in sex, but she is more a showwoman than a singer.”

One may like Ms. Madonna or not, but statistics say that she is the world’s best-selling singer. 300 million of her CDs have been sold all over the world. She has also won 7 Grammy awards.

“Madonna is a genius of marketing,” musical critic Yuri Saprykin says. “She is inexhaustible in inventing new ways of selling her production. In fact, her whole life is a well-staged reality show.”

However, as far as Madonna’s two previous concerts in Russia were not an indisputably tremendous success, this time, organizers decided that she won’t sing at big stadiums or in squares. Both in Moscow and in St. Petersburg, the concerts will take place in halls which hold about 25,000 people.

Folks over at Tribe are saying ticket sales are sluggish in Oslo, Brussels, Dublin and

Zagreb.

Ticket sales for the Copenhagen show are slow, too.

When Madonna performed at the same venue in 2009, all floor tickets sold out within a few hours after going on general sale.

A few days later, the only restricted-view tickets were left.

This time around, it took almost 3 weeks for the Golden Circle to sell out, and there are still lots of tickets left in all other ticket categories.

As if anyone cares but here's the seating chart for Kansas City... only interesting in that there are far fewer seats going for the top price than usual. I suppose a few of the other secondary markets might follow suit.

There are a couple big gaps still.

Yeah, and I don't think they will be filled. The tour is by all counts a huge success, but slower sales in Norway, UK and some other places will probably mean no other dates in those territories.

I am so happy Istanbul and Abu Dhabi are such huge successes. Tel Aviv still isn't sold out is it? Opening night even.

I´m sure that after the album is out, she does promotion, and especially, after her first concert, everything will be sould out. Then again, I think it´s good that she´s selling slow, Livenation shouldn´t count everything for granted and next time she should be doing arenas in europe

She is doing some arena's in Europe if you want to see her in one. We go through this with every tour and everytime she ends up selling out 99.9 percent of the dates. People said Stadiums were going to be half empty for first leg of Sticky and Sweet and second leg and they were not. Madonna is a mega star and will always do some stadiums. There is more money in it and there will always be demand in some areans for her to do them. She is a rock star after all and there are far more concerts with much less production that are in stadiums. I will never understand the complaints.

Groovyguy...Theres whispers here about Manchester MCR arena (used to be called the MEN) for 25th July. Do you know anything?? Ive heard she is 'pencilled in' whatever that means. Do you think its true or if they are waiting for London to sell out first?
