But if it's a "drug reference", why? She has been pretty clear that she doesn't really endorse a life of drugs. And all the meanings are just speculation of course, but not one of them really makes much sense since Madonna is quite direct about what her album titles are reference to.

I am quite intrigued what it really is pertaining to. I do like the whole DNA (genetic) connection, but "M.D.N.A." doesn't really make sense to that connection.

It's not that she endorses a life of drugs but it's a fact that drugs like MDMA (Ecstasy) are often used at all-night dance parties such as "raves" or "trances," dance clubs, and bars.

Thank you.

So now some people in here don't believe her OFFICIAL facebook page or OFFICIAL website.

Remember she told the same night it was announced that she was "thinking" about doing the Super Bowl but she didn't really say she was going to perform.

There is a difference. At the time of Madonna being asked about SuperBowl, it was simultaneously being announced. She obviously wasn't aware that it was announced yet when she was interviewed.

Also, I don't doubt her official site or Facebook. I am simply wondering since she mentioned "Unless I change my mind" and was joking about "initials" it was just a big joke.

Her official site has hardly been forthright with info. But like you, I thought there is no way they would post false info even if she was joking.

True. But it will interpreted that she's endorsing such. It's just she's never titled an album that isn't so specific. It's usually been themed oriented.

That's what I love about it.. the multi meanings and pun. It's just BRILLIANT. This has really raised my hopes. Wonder what the cover is like next. :dramatic: Can't be any worse than the last one!

I feel it. It's gonna be mind-blowing!

William Orbit has had a DNA strand as his facbook photo since October. She was maybe joking about changing her mind.

Doubt she worries about being misinterpreted. I would think the album theme is dance/club dance and MDMA (Ecstasy) is linked to dance/club music.

Then why doesn't she call it "MDMA"? I guess what I mean is she doesn't purposely try to mince words within the meaning behind her album. I look forward to her explaining what it means to her in the near future. ;)

It's (at least) a three-way pun

MDMA Drug

Madonna's DNA - i.e. this record is quintessential Madonna musically/music's in her DNA as someone else said

MDNA txt spk a la Lily Allen's LDN, a shortened version of her name that the Twatter and iPad generation will now use - another stroke of genius. It's all too much. :dramatic:

It's very "youth" sounding of course, but it's so good and genius it doesn't matter. I was worried about this album with the Gimme a Bucket demo, and have ultimately decided I'm borderline meh on Disasterpiece (It's "good", but have no urgency to play it again) but now this freakishly amazing title has reawakened my interest big time.

I wonder if the album will have themes about science, what it means to be human etc instead of the cheesy circuit queen stuck in 1992 drug reference.

i'm thinking it is a reference to how the album was produced, with all the different people involved and WO weaving himself through everything.

I know right? What does it take to convince some people?!

I like you and everything but do you always take this stuff at face value? I mean, Ray of Light wasn't an endorsement of solar panels or anything. Hard Candy wasn't promoting Brach's.

Exactly. :wow: And if the album is sonically very electronic/dance (or psychedelic ohhh my god) it'll be the perfect album to listen to on MDMA. Not that she endorses it but it's part of the point and could fit with a science concept.

Sort of like a Bedtime Story 2012 but perhaps more into the scientific side of reality vs. altered consciousness (hallucinogens).

Nope... I took them as how she explained the meaning behind the albums. But c'mon? Before Madonna talked about why she called her album "Hard Candy", a lot of people associated the porn film of the same name. Obviously, that is what's going on here as well. People are making assumptions of what it could really mean. I'm not. I'm just trying to figure out why it's called "MDNA" and no doubt, there are many many more fans who thinking the same. ;)

Anyway, I'm not taking anything by face value until I see the album cover. I'm just discussing what's been said and heard.

Madonna has always been about ambiguity and multiple meanings and word association. She knows it stirs things up and it usually works in her favour! I love the whole M.D.N.A title.

That was my initial thought, but think about it. Madonna is in control here. She's got all the fans/people buzzing about the title, wondering what she really means by it. All at the same time, keeping the real title under wraps. From what I read, she was joking about it all on the Graham Norton show about loving "initials". Though MDNA doesn't even make sense as "initials" even if it's a reference to DNA. And if it's in reference to the drug, why bother to switch out the "M" for an "N".

Whatever the case, it's quite clever of her to reveal what she did. Nice way to start a buzz around the album and the title's meaning.
