Madonna Signs With Interscope, Source Confirms

December 14, 2011

By Jem Aswad, with additional reporting by Ray Waddell

Madonna has signed with Interscope, a source close to the situation confirmed to Billboard.biz Wednesday morning (Dec. 14).

According to a report in the New York Post, the singer will continue the 10-year multi-rights deal with Live Nation -- said to be worth more as much as $100 million -- that she signed in 2007, but has inked a three-album pact with Interscope at a base of $1 million per album. Billboard.biz's source could not confirm the terms of the deal at press time but said the report sounded right.

Madonna left Warner Bros., her label home of 25 years, after the release of her 2008 album "Hard Candy." Her subsequent Live Nation-produced "Sticky & Sweet" tour grossed $408 million worldwide, according to Billboard Boxscore, highest ever for a female artist.

While she is signed with Live Nation, the company's CEO Irving Azoff reiterated to Billboard in February that it would partner with some other entity in releasing Madonna's next album. Executives at the firm have stated repeatedly that they don't intend to enter the record business full-tilt.

"Live Nation, prior to the merger, entered into some of these all-rights deals, so there are certain artists, Madonna being one of them, that there is a recorded music strategy," Azoff said. "Once she gets the album recorded, we'll sit down with her and her manager Guy Oseary and figure out what's best for the record. It has to start with the music."

Azoff said Madonna would begin recording the album as soon as she finished work on her directing debut, "W.E.," a look at the scandalous love affair between Wallis Simpson and Britain's King Edward VIII, which is out early next year. A rough version of a ballad called " Masterpiece," reportedly from the film and her forthcoming album, leaked last week.

Also last week, it was confirmed that Madonna will be performing during halftime at the Super Bowl on February 5 in Indianapolis.

A different song, "Give Me All Your Love," leaked last month and Madonna teased the crowd about it during a Smirnoff event in New York last month, but stopped short of playing it. Last week, M.I.A. let it slip that she, Madonna and Nicki Minaj were working on a new song together.

So Madonna is back in the studio. After performing for nearly five years without a new record, her Madgesty has a three-album deal with Universal Music Group’s Interscope. Madonna broke off her relationship with Warner Music Group in 2007 following a disagreement with Edgar Bronfman and signed with Live Nation for a megabucks “360 deal” that covers touring and merchandise. She’ll l continue to tour with Live Nation but has the deal with Interscope at a base of $1 million per album.

Madonna has also been confirmed to perform at the NFL Super Bowl Half Time Show in the US next February, which is when she is expected to make her comeback.

The 'Material Girl' singer has recently been in the studio working on tracks for her 12th album with DJ Martin Solveig and producer William Orbit.

IS 1 MILLION PAID PER ALBUM A LOT ???

As I posted in the other thread, this has to be for licensing and distribution. The Live Nation deal already had her album advances:

The 10-year deal reportedly includes: $50 million in cash and stock for the right to promote Madonna's concert tours; a signing bonus of $17.5 million; and advances totaling $50 million-$60 million for three albums.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2007/10/13/us-madonna-idUSN1325809620071013

I think Live Nation just licenses the distribution to Interscope. Her true record advance was closer to $15 million. Even when she was at Warner, she got $5 million per album.

:lmao: I'm so glad everybody has forgotten that turd called Hard Candy

I really don't think it's THAT bad of an album. It actually had some pretty good and fun moments (Give It 2 Me, Miles Away, She's Not Me, Devil Wouldn't Recognize You...even Candy shop was funky!)

Exactly!

And yes it's the same distributor of Lady Gaga so I think we are going to have "monster" promotion for the album this time arround ;)

That's great news! Now we can expect product placement in her future videos like those "Beats By Dre" headphones every interscope artist is required to wear in their videos.

From HitsDailyDouble today...

RAY OF LIGHT ON THE SUBJECT: Page Six “broke” the news this morning that Madonna has a three-album deal with Interscope and is back in the studio. Apparently, those guys don’t read HITS, because I.B. Bad broke the story two weeks ago. The Page Six item has the deal set at a base of $1 million per album (I.B. reported it’s worth $10m per), and though the project is still in the demo phase, the idea is to get the first album out early next year. According to the item, it was a disagreement with Edgar Bronfman that led Madonna to leave Warner Music and sign that megabucks 360 deal with Live Nation back in 2007. Guess she showed him...

http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgi

$10 million sounds more accurate, but I imagine this is still a distribution deal.

Madonna's Interscope-Live Nation Deal Worth $40 Million; Album Due Out in March

12:41 AM PST 12/15/2011 by Shirley Halperin

shareComments 4 The first release of the three-album deal will be a new single, "Gimme All Your Luvin," scheduled to hit the last week of January.

Madonna’s new album is finished and will be released in March 2012 on Interscope Records, the label and Live Nation Entertainment are expected to announce on Thursday morning.

Hitting Theaters Official: Van Halen Signs With Interscope RecordsIn 2007, Live Nation signed the superstar to a 10-year deal reportedly worth $100 million -- this portion of the commitment is being valued at $40 million, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The Universal Music Group-owned label will release three albums by the Material Girl. Her first single, called “Gimme All Your Luvin,” is due out the last week in January (a demo of the song leaked in early November) just ahead of Madonna’s halftime performance at the Super Bowl on Feb. 5. Two days earlier, the film W.E., which Madonna directed and co-wrote, is scheduled to hit theaters.

The as-yet-untitled album is her first in five years. Madonna had been signed to Warner Bros. since 1982. Van Halen, another Warners act, also recently signed with Interscope, adding to an increasingly healthy stable of rock and pop artists who launched their careers in the 80s, which includes U2. Lady Gaga, who is often compared to Madonna, is also on the Interscope roster.

The multi-faceted "360" deal includes studio albums, touring, merchandising, fan club/website, DVD’s, music-related television and film projects and associated sponsorship agreements.

“We anticipate a very bright future at our new home,” says Madonna's longtime manager Guy Oseary in a statement being issued Dec. 15. Adds Jimmy Iovine, Chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M: "Very rarely does an opportunity like this come around. We would like to thank Madonna, Guy and Live Nation for their belief in us."

here is what the NY Daily News says about that "turd"

Madonna’s latest, as yet unnamed album, is her first since “Hard Candy,” five years ago. That disk represented a creative comeback for the star, becoming one of her best-reviewed disks. “Hard Candy” went No. 1 in 27 countries, including the U.S. and the U.K. The tour to back the album, “Sticky & Sweet,” grossed $408 million worldwide, the highest ever for a female artist.

This reminds me of when she hijacked Freddy Demann who was MJ's manager. She's grabbed Mother Monster's label now as well. Just brilliant. :asian:

To seal the deal Madonna is making an appearance right now with Interscope's CEO Jimmy Lovine at the 1st annual-you-deserve-the-love-benefit-concert-featuring-jeye-and-friends in Brooklyn.

Lovine is an old acquaintance of Madonna since she recorded "Santa Baby" back in 1987 for the 1st "A very special christmas" album as a favour to him.

This means she will have a VEVO account and videos in HD? And videos will not be deleted again after they make like millions of views? :D

i hope she does... many contemporary popular artists have one... if she's still very much active in the scene, she should have one too
