I only knew her from Mad About You. I didn't know she sings. as for that article I can't take anyone who says skank seriously

I'll always love both Madonna and Cyndi. Sales mean so much to people; so does popularity. All it means is that one doesn't have to worry about where their money is coming from more than the other. It's a shame most people measure in numbers and think that that matters to humanity when it only matters to certain people's bank accounts. But I feel that both women have very strong souls. You can look at Madonna and see it. You can listen to Cyndi and feel it. Those are their strongest suits in my opinion. But they are both definitely artists undisputably. I have always been attracted to true artists, no matter what genre. Cyndi is more of a self expressing artist rather than the zeitgeist Madonna is. But both are definitely artists in their own way.

Im sorry it seemed to me because you responded twice after NothingFailsNoMoreQueefs that you were responding to him and I didn't get the impression that he was dissing Cyndi but he made a good observation of what she has been doing in the past 10 years or so and you seem to agree so it's all good. happy.gif

I love Cyndi, or shall I say i did and her best work to me was A Night To Remember/Hat Full of Stars/Sisters of Avalon. Ever since then I've been really hoping for a comeback not commercial success but something as great as those 3 albums. There is no doubt that she is talented but perhaps she needs to make better decisions.

its all good ABE... i still love you. wub.gif

and i totaly agree with what u said about her past as best work to date.

her musical genre is all over the damn place. she is not so relevant these days, however i gotsta say dat i reallly was

diggin the TO THE BRINK album......she got me back at that point....this bluesy stuff is prett good but it seems so contrived.

It just seems that a lot of people in the press still can't get over the fact that Madonna was not a one hit wonder & can't forgive her for really fulfilling her dream to rule the world. So they just have to slam her every chance they get. Whether it's an article about Cyndi or Gaga or Guy Ritchie, there is always a dig at Madonna. For God's sake, it been almost 30 years & they still can't bring her down. Give it a rest already.

o m g ... i dunt kno you vut i love u

Thanks to YouTube I can now demonstrate what I mean when they both appeared on Top Of The Pops for the first time. Cyndi was first, her look having been well thought out with an experienced stylist, and put on a performance that was so OTT it was off putting. Madonna came on, looking like she'd just stepped out of a New York gutter and put on an energetic yet understated performance that was COOLER THAN FUCK. I wanted MORE.

Here are the clips:

Cyndi may have become more 'pretentiously arty' - the only option when continued lack of commercial success prevails. But Madonna is the TRUE ARTIST of the two and the TRUE STAR.

Man, I am SOO SICK of articles like these. Not only is it always about female artists but Madonna in particular. Why don't they write about how The Pixies should have been bigger than Nirvana since Nirvana ripped off the Pixies? Or how both Ricky martin & Enrique Iglesias made it big the same year, except now Enrique is still selling millions but Ricky can't get aressted?

Some one needs to do a "LEAVE MADONNA ALOOOOOOONE!!!!" video & post it on you tube. :lmao:

Well, wasn't Cyndi largely a US phenomenon? "She's So Unusual" was huge here but it wasn't quite as popular in Europe. She'll always be well-known in America for "Time After Time" and "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" and plus her work with gay rights, but in many other places she's looked at about the same way Kim Wilde (who had two or three hits but was never considered a star) are here.

Very amateurish article. This person isn't all that informed, either. And, very true abut using "skank"- very professional, eh?

It says something when someone tries to bring one act down to make another look good. Cyndi doesn't need to be compared to anyone. She's good- but not stupendously better than Madonna as an artist- really.

Well something else "funny: about the writers attitude towrds these women,

he calls M a skank, yet completely forgets that, 'She Bop' from Cyndi's first cd is about female masturbation.

:drama: And where he got S&M in 'Vogue' is lost on me. (Unless maybe he confused 'Vogue' w/'JML')

The most shocking thing in this mess is that some people here didn't know who Cindy was before this article.

I knew who she was but she is not popular in our area , I never got the chance to explore her music before, I like "Bring Ya to the Brink" album & her cover for " I drove all night"

the porn star was in one of her videos , she looked like an old woman who tries to be young & cool :|

I dont consider her version of I Drove All Night to be a cover because it was released before Orbison's.

I thought it was initially Celine Dion's song :lmao:

oh no hunni

Cyndi did it in 1989 and Celine covered it like few years ago. I don't like Saline Dion Cyndi's version was so much better.
