Susan is out of control!!!

HITS:

DRILLING FOR BOYLE

Syco/Columbia Singer Stays Home for the Holidays, with Glee Vol. 2, Chris Brown, Gucci Mane, Thirty Seconds to Mars Leading the Debuts

December 9, 2009

If this is a Dream, Susan Boyle doesn't want to wake up.

The unlikely Syco/Columbia phenom will top the HITS' Album chart for a third consecutive week next Tuesday (12/15), with a total that could hit 600k, bringing her cumulative number close to 2 million.

That will certainly bring a smile to the faces of Rob Stringer, Steve Barnett and the notoriously hard-to-please Simon Cowell.

Based on one-day sales reports from those retailers not too busy selling flat-screen TVs, the top debut will come from Columbia's Glee, Vol. 2, which is rapidly turning into its own cottage industry, with 120-130k, giving Barnett's label the top two albums on next week's chart.

Jive/JLG's Chris Brown returns with Graffiti, which is on target for between 95-100k as the next highest newcomer, while Warner Bros. Birmingham, AL, rapper Gucci Mane is right behind him, with a projected total of 85-95k.

Virgin/EMI's Thirty Seconds to Mars declare This Is War with a projected total between 65-75k, followed by Mailboat's Jimmy Buffet (60-70k), Priority/EMI's Snoop Dogg (55-65k), E1 Entertainment's BG (40-50k), Blackground/Interscope's Timbaland (35-40k) and Columbia Virginia Beach hip-hop duo Clipse (30-35k).

The market was down 5% vs. last week, down 10% vs. same week last year and down 13% year to date.

You may now return to enjoying the last few days of the "'Ought Decade."

OMG so awsome for Susan. I'm so happy for her. Amazing album. I bet that word of mouth is really helping sales as she hasn't really done much promo here in the states. I do wonder though if she going to be the number 1 most facinating person on Barbara Walters special tonight. If so that might drive sales even more!

Holy fuck. Who would have thought in 2009 that an album could sell near 2 million in three weeks? Most units shifted post-SoundScan in three weeks since 'N Sync's Celebrity in 2001?

^Indeed- her sales may be unprecedented.

I was going to say that at the height of MJ's Thriller album sales I'm sure it did a few weeks of over 500k in a row but that was pre soundscan so yes this could be a first.

Timbaland so low!?!? lower even than Celebration!?!?

and...SUSAN BOYLE 600K!?!?!?...will it be this year's best selling album, or will Taylor shift? :wacko:

There have been weeks of 500K+ in three consecutive weeks in the SoundScan era- 50 Cent's debut, for instance. And, I think Backstreet Boys and Beatles may have done it in 2000.

By unprecedented, I meant seeing such a small decline after such a large opening- in a post-Black Friday week, no less- and then possibly increasing in the third week. Usually, overall album sales drop back after Thanksgiving week, then decline again, and then see a couple of weeks of increases leading up to Christmas, before starting to decline again.

In regards to females since 1991- this may be a first, but not sure. Oops..I Did It Again probably didn't log 3 weeks of 500K+ (don't have the figures handy, though).

Not a true statistic. Just look at Josh Groban's sales for Noel.

It's airplay finally showed a decline in this chart's numbers. If it continues going down next week and Gaga's continues to increase then she could do it. BR has continued to be #1 on Itunes all this week and Empire is down to #4.

patience haha

if not, she's already got a 5th Top 10 in a row

It is with deep sadness to inform all that until she can best 16 top five songs in a row she's not much of a GODga. 5 top tens in a row?? Pfft....even Paula Abdul can probably top that. :lmao:

Great song though, it deserves number one more than any others she's released.

you bitches made a God of a flea, so eat the shyt comming from that :thumbsup:

1989 Straight Up 1

1989 Forever Your Girl 1

1989 Cold Hearted 1

1989 (It's Just) The Way You Love Me 3

1990 Opposites Attract 1

1991 Rush Rush 1

1991 The Promise Of A New Day 1

1992 Blowing Kisses In The Wind 6

She really did give Madonna a run for her money on the Hot 100 for a couple of years.

HITS:

YOUR WEAKEND CHART PREVIEW: As you might've guessed, SuBo and AnBo are exploding-apparently very few of their fans frequent P2Ps, because their shiny round things are flying out of the stores in Michael Jackson-level numbers. Can Boyle go higher? Can she top her own, already impressive first week? Below these two titans, four debuts are doing serious biz as well, topped by another Columbia release (Steve Barnett is obviously enjoying the holiday season). Here's what we're looking at with three more shopping days left until the polls close:

Susan Boyle (Columbia) 625-675k

Andrea Bocelli (Decca) 375-400k

*Glee, Vol. 2 (Columbia) 130-140k

Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 130-140k

* Chris Brown (Jive/JLG) 90-100k

Carrie Underwood (19/Arista Nashville) 85-95k

Lady GaGa, The Fame (Interscope) 80-90k

* Gucci Mane (Warner Bros.) 80-90k

Michael Buble (Reprise) 80-90k

Now 32 (Sony Music) 70-80k

Glee, Vol. 1 (Columbia) 70-80k

Justin Bieber (Island/IDJ) 65-75k

* Thirty Seconds to Mars (Virgin/EMI) 65-75k

Norah Jones (Blue Note/EMI) 65-75k

* Jimmy Buffett (Mailboat) 65-75k

Black Eyed Peas (Interscope) 60-70k

* Denotes debut

I can think of 2 more recent examples of how the hype for "she-who-must-not-be-named" is way so dramatic and overrated.

Fergie (from The Dutchess: US-> 4 x platinium/ worldwide-> 8 x Platinium)) at Billboard:

Hot 100 & Pop

London Bridge: 1 - 1

Fergalicious : 2 - 1

Glamorous : 1 - 1

Big girls don't cry: 1 - 1

Clumsy: 5 - 2

Plus, Beyonce also had similar statistics, her 5 singles from "Dangerously in love"(US:4 times platinium/worldwide 8 xplatinium ) reached the top 5 at Hot 100 and 3 were number 1...get the point? :doh:

Gosh! for Susan!!...since hits have differed in around 100k with Soundscan lately, does it mean Susan could reach the 700k again!?!?!!? that would make it nearly 2 million in just 3 weeks!!! and there'll be what? 1 or 2 weeks left for this year? she could easily claim the biggest selling album for this year! which would be better than having Taylor Chifa at the top spot!! :rant:

Well, in her defense, not even five years ago, radio was so dead set against pop music that Lady Gaga would've been lucky to have had five top 75 tracks in a row, much less top 10's. In 2004, Poker Face would've been lucky to go top 20.
