Mattress
Great overview, but you can't leave "Angel" and "Dress You Up" off!!!! I'd drop "American Pie," "Rain" and any hopes of a new song. "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" was the bigger Evita single so I think it should appear in place of "You Must Love Me". Here's one I compiled a few weeks ago. Using the official single edits, these fit perfectly on two CDs. The only U.S. top 10 singles omitted are "Keep It Together," "Hanky Panky" and "Rescue Me," sacrificed only for the essential inclusion of "Holiday," "Into The Groove" and "Beautiful Stranger" (her latter "ITG" stalled by the lack of a commercial single.) Disc 1: Holiday (Edit) Borderline (Edit) Lucky Star (Edit) Like A Virgin Material Girl Crazy For You (Edit) Angel (Edit) Into The Groove Dress You Up Live To Tell (Edit) Papa Don't Preach True Blue Open Your Heart La Isla Bonita Who's That Girl Causing A Commotion (Silver Screen Single Mix) Like A Prayer (7" Version) Express Yourself (7" Remix) Cherish (Fade) Disc 2: Vogue (Single Version) Justify My Love This Used To Be My Playground (Single Version) Erotica (Radio Edit) Deeper And Deeper (Edit) I'll Remember Secret (Edit) Take A Bow (Edit) You'll See (Edit) Don't Cry For Me Argentina (Miami Mix Edit) Frozen (Radio Edit) Ray Of Light (Radio Edit) Beautiful Stranger (William Orbit Radio Edit) Music Don't Tell Me (Radio Edit) Die Another Day (Radio Edit) Hung Up (Radio Version - U.S.) 4 Minutes (Radio Edit)

mtzlplk
hmm, Angel only reached #5 because of the Into The Groove demand in the US through its single release... methinks Rain was an airplay powerhouse... no complaints of having DCFMA over YMLM... Guest Danny86
Disc 2: Vogue (Single Version) Justify My Love This Used To Be My Playground (Single Version) Erotica (Radio Edit) Deeper And Deeper (Edit) I'll Remember Secret (Edit) Take A Bow (Edit) You'll See (Edit) Don't Cry For Me Argentina (Miami Mix Edit) Frozen (Radio Edit) Ray Of Light (Radio Edit) Beautiful Stranger (William Orbit Radio Edit) Music Don't Tell Me (Radio Edit) Die Another Day (Radio Edit) Hung Up (Radio Version - U.S.) 4 Minutes (Radio Edit) I know those are her biggest hits, but that would be such a weird listen, ballad after ballad. Hence why GHV2 tracklist was not chronological and some of those being replaced by non hits like "Human Nature"... I definitely think it's "You Must Love Me" that has to be included this time around because of the tour though!

Guest Danny86
compilations tend to target the casual fans, i am sure SORRY was ignored, same with GI2M... In Europe they were big hits. And explain why "Human Nature", "Bedtime Story", "What It Feels Like For A Girl" & "Drowned World" were on GHV2 if it's really only about the non-ignored tracks for the casual fans. Guest dicktracy
I think some of these list are focusing too much on her early hits. While I agree that most of her big hits were in the 80's, for a career spanning compilation we would need to stretch a bit the concept of a hit song. Plus, if someone wants her 80's hits then they can buy TIC... Anyway, I came up with some rules to be 'democratic' with this tracklist. First, all proper albums MUST be represented and must have at least 2 singles listed. Second, at least one single from each of her soundtrack contributions must be present (that is to fully represent all her stages). Lastly, no singles used to promote previous compilations can be used in order to maintain their 'value' to non-fans (that would include songs like Spotlight, JML, Rescue Me, You'll See, OMC, and LDLHA). With that in mind, this is what comes out: DISC ONE: 1. Holiday 2. Lucky Star 3. Like A Virgin 4. Material Girl 5. Crazy For You 6. Into The Groove 7. Dress You Up 8. Live To Tell* 9. Papa Don't Preach 10. True Blue 11. Open Your Heart 12. La Isla Bonita 13. Who's That Girl 14. Causing A Commotion 15. Like A Prayer 16. Express Yourself 17. Vogue 18. This Used To Be My Playground DISC TWO: 1. Erotica 2. Deeper and Deeper 3. I'll Remember 4. Secret 5. Take A Bow 6. You Must Love Me 7. Frozen 8. Ray Of Light 9. Beautiful Stranger 10. American Pie* 11. Music 12. Don't Tell Me 13. Die Another Day* 14. American Life 15. Hung Up 16. Sorry 17. 4 Minutes 18. Give It To Me *These songs were in a soundtrack previous to the release of their respective albums. American Pie was excluded from the US version of Music. The 13 songs underlined are not present in TIC and GHV2. Some people will object to not having Borderline or Cherish. I omitted these in order to introduce Dress You Up and Causing a Commotion. If I had to ommit CAC I would reinstate Borderline. P.S.: All her UK/US #1's are represented with the exception of Justify My Love for the reasons mentioned above. ryan
don't even get me started on the tracklist sequence... her worst i agree, that was another minus on Madonna's effort the only good thing i like about it is that Deeper and Deeper is the 1st track (which i think is the only change that needed to be made)

In Disc One, True Blue, Who's That Girl and Causing A Commotion were essentials that were wrongfully-ignored in TIC... In Disc Two, Rain, I'll Remember, You'll See, This Used To Be My Playground were left off to protect the catalog sales of STR plus Soundtracks American Pie, You Must Love Me... This is actually a better TIC and superb GHV2 plus at least a new song, combined

nightcutter
Didnt she have NO input or wasnt interested in GHV2, thats why it was so shoddy ? Lets hope for this one she has some interest , we could see something good She wanted GHV2 to be released summer 2002. She wanted to include a new song for it but Warner wanted the album ready for Christmas sales in 2001. As a protest she had minimal involvement in it. Guest
why are you all wasting your time with all those playlists? to feel sorry when the real compilation will be released? I agree lol Besides GHV2 when first heard gives Madonna a more SOPHISTICATED sound then TIC which was extremely popish (Not that that's a bad thing).
