From a Haven discussion:

Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs, Keane, Kooks, Streets, Razorlight, Snow Patrol and now Franz Ferdinand, all underperforming. The end of the 00's indie?

Kasabian? Did they release something or did they flop before releasing?!?

I think they were mentioning their last release back in 2007, or that Kasabian were crap and don't deserve to be successful. You know, the never ending story about how "indie" are the indie groups. Truth is, saleswise most of them (Razorlight, Kaiser, Snow) didn't do as well as most people expected.

Any Kylie songs in the top 200?

You'll be glad to hear not, and Boombox is at 141.

I hate this time of year in the UK charts. Acts like The Saturdays, Taio Cruz and James Morrison would be lucky to scrape the Top 20 at any other time of the year. But with sales so low after Christmas, they can easily score Top Fives and then include this achievement in future press releases.

but sales are low for everybody, not only for james morrison or other singers that you don´t like...and on the other hand, maybe some artists that you like are going to have top ten thanks to the low sales! I remember PSB´s YOTYLWYD and, well, i think it would have been difficult for them to have that song at number 8 (?) in other time of the year

BTW - Girls Aloud Greatest Hits is now ineligible to make the albums chart because its dealer price to retailers is below the minimum level. Think it will now be on the budget chart.

thats true. sales are low for everyone not just some of the acts. in fact james morrison would sell even more at any time o the year. i think the song got into the top 10 end of december, something which was not easy. theres a misconception that some songs only do well because its january. theres plenty of competition out there still. if people wont buy music its not just about select artists doing better or worse, the sales are down for all.

http://new.uk.music.yahoo.com/blogs/chartw...uary-31st-2009/

The top end of the singles chart is pretty much as we expected, the battle between Lady Gaga and Kid Cudi extending to a second week. Victory spoils quite rightly go to the underdressed one as 'Just Dance' retains its singles crown for a third week running. She does it with another impressively strong sale, selling in excess of 70,000 copies for the second week in succession. As you may have heard me mention on the podcast last week, this level of sales is incredibly impressive for January and her totals to date makes 'Just Dance' one of the fastest selling January releases of the decade. Four years ago this week, Ciara was topping the chart after selling just 21,000 copies of 'Goodies'. 'Just Dance' by contrast has now shifted a quarter of a million copies in its four weeks on sale.
