"4 Minutes" just may squeeze out a 10th week in Top 10. There are 3 below it on the sales chart that should end up with higher overall points- "Love in This CLub," "No Air," and "Sexy Can I."

On the flip side, it will have more points than sales No. 7 (Lil Wayne), and it's tight with "Pocketful of Sunshine" (Mediabase airplay on the Quick Summary page is 11.5m higher, plus it has maxi sales and may be ahead in streaming).

Billboard.com:

Usher Scores Second Best Sales Debut Of '08

June 04, 2008, 11:00 AM ET

by Katie Hasty, N.Y.

Four years after his "Confessions" rocked the charts, Usher returns to The Billboard 200 at No. 1 with "Here I Stand." With 433,000 U.S. copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan, the LaFace/Zomba album is the second biggest debut this year behind the 463,000 start of Mariah Carey's "E=MC2."

"Here I Stand" was led by the single "Love in This Club" featuring Young Jeezy, which was No. 1 for three weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. Usher's "Confessions" started at the penthouse in 2004 with a whopping 1,096,000 units and spent nine weeks on top. It went on to be the year's best-seller.

Coming in at No. 2 is the New Line soundtrack to the "Sex in the City" movie. The set -- which features tracks from artists as diverse as the Weepies, Jennifer Hudson, Run-D.M.C. and Nina Simone -- moved 66,000 copies. It's the highest debut for a multi-artist theatrical film soundtrack since "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" also started at No. 2 in November 2005.

3 Doors Down's Universal Republic self-titled set falls 1-3 with 63,000, a 59% sales decrease. Bun-B's Rap-A-Lot/Asylum set "II Trill" is down 2-4 with 40,000 (-59%), Leona Lewis' Syco/J album "Spirit" climbs 6-5 with 39,000 (-23%) and Reprise's retrospective Frank Sinatra collection "Nothing But the Best" slips 4-6 with 37,000 (-32%). Duffy's "Rockferry" (Mercury) endures a 19% sales decrease, moving 36,000 and ascending 8-7.

Carey's chart-topping Island Def Jam album "E=MC2" continues its decline 7-8 with a 20% sales decrease to 36,000. Al Green, who is also on the "Sex in the City" soundtrack, starts at No. 9 with "Lay It Down," selling 34,000. The Blue Note effort is Green's highest debut ever and his highest charting album since "I'm Still in Love with You" reached No. 4 in 1972.

Death Cab For Cutie's "Narrow Stairs" (Atlantic) rounds out the top tier, falling 5-10 with 33,000 (-36%).

Only two other efforts bow inside the top 50 this week. Cyndi Lauper's "Bring Ya to the Brink" (Epic) debuts at No. 41 with 12,000. It's the singer's first U.S. pop album since 1996's "Sisters of Avalon." Fergie's "The Dutchess: The Deluxe E.P." -- which contains the four tracks tacked on to the deluxe reissue of that album -- hops on board at No. 46 with 11,000. Interscope's "The Dutchess" reissue, released last week, causes the original album to bounce back up 104-28.

Album sales this week are up 0.44% from last week's sum with 7.24 million units and down 13% from the same week last year.

HITS:

Reprise Rockers Top the Chart with 230k+ Total, Weezer, Now 28 Also Hot

June 4, 2008

Windy City rockers Disturbed are popular not just in the yeshiva, where they attract a following from lead singer David Draiman's background as an Orthodox Jew, but apparently on the HITS charts as well.

Mazel tov, guys. The Reprise act's fourth album, Indestructible, appears to be just that, with one-day retail reports pegging it at a first-week total of 230-250k, which should make it #1 next Tuesday.

The band's previous two albums, 2005's double-platinum Ten Thousand Fists, and 2002's platinum Believe, both debuted at #1.

Weezer's new self-titled DGC/Interscope release, already dubbed by fans "The Red Album," will ride a diet of the hit single "Porn and Beans" to a debut in the 150k range, fighting it out with Capitol's Now 28.

Universal Motown pop R&B songstress Ashanti's The Declaration looks to be in the 80k range.

Journey is the latest brand name act to go the exclusive Wal-Mart route with their latest, Revelation, the first with new lead singer Arnel Pineda, which should do around 80k as well.

Jewel's first country album, Perfectly Clear, for Big Machine's Valory label, in on target for a total of 50k.

yikes, 150k for Weezer is pretty dismal CONSIDERING Circuit City and Amazon are both selling the album for $5.99 this week. You know that the label was hoping for the band to finally hit #1 (and continue the upward climb, their last three albums peaked at #4, #3 and #2 respectably) so they slashed the prices so cheap for the first week

Gotta say, this is the first time in awhile that the majority of new releases look to be doing solid numbers. Wish they had mentioned how Usher is looking.

RE the new releases- asode from a couple, none others really look to be debuting all that well. Ashanti's <100K projection, Jewel's 50K projection, etc.- not all that impressive (Jewel's is a country effort, but, still.

^ Believe it or not, there are lots of people out there who actually like the rap/hip-hop stuff out there today. Just sayin' (I wouldn't chalk up their high airplay to the illegal pay-for-play).

^ Actually, "Bye Bye" jumped 46-38 on that chart.

meanwhile it's sitting at #17 in airplay. Shouldn't it be around the same on that chart?

I am still baffled at the success of Thriller 25. If it had been a decent repackaging, I could understand.... like the amazing U2 Joshua Tree 20 release last year, which was digitally remastered and packed with a second disc with b-sides and unreleased material from 1986-1987. But MJ released a piece of crap with a bunch of rappers and artists that maybe 1% of the people who actually bought Thriller in it's original release even give a shit about and it does well. I don't get it.

MJ!!! KING OF POP ALWAYS AND FOREVER!!!! :electropop:

Really though.....for no new music in 7 years and with his VERY VERY tarnished rep that is quite impressive! For all the disses he gets I honestly think that if he were to release an album of new material it's performance would probably shock the hell out of everybody.

I'm sure a new MJ album would sell decently (in this sales climate, anyways)- look at Invincible. Opened with 36,0,000 or so, and has scanned 2.1 million in the USA. I woudl expect a new album to enter on top (barring major competition).

Wasn't MJ meant to be recording a new album with Akon and the dude from Black Eyed Peas?

For all his weirdness and freakiness, Michael potentially could still deliver some killer singles, assuming it's not more of that "Heal The World" crap!

Just because "Thriller 25" is selling decent doesn't mean his new album will sell. First off the album "Thriller" was hugely successful and still popular to this day, which is thanks in part to the video which is always in the top 10 on itunes and elsewhere so of course people want to know what all the hoopla is about. I'm talking about younger people here btw about who weren't around when Michaelmania was at it's peak and only know him for his sex abuse cases and plastic surgery and not for his music and talent.

Rememer though, people like OLD MJ. They like the MJ from the 80's, who was seen as normal, not the FREAK he's turned himself into today. True Michael has a loyal fanbase, but they are not enough to help give him a major comeback that he surely wants. He must have the general public embrace him for him to be successful again, but considering the fact that he's recieved more negative press than just about ANY artist or celebrity in history, I don't see it happening. It will take a miracle for him to go platinum in the U.S. with his next release (whenver that's coming out).

I'm guessing his new one sells anywhere from 2-3 million tops World Wide, if that much. His reputation is beyond tarnished and will NEVER recover, but he can still have some moderate success possibly.
