fak Posted July 30, 2008 Share Posted July 30, 2008 When a video gets RAVE reviews and everyone talking.....people are interested in seeing it...fans and non-fans......ok it does nt gaurantee airplay but theres a HUGE chance it could do...... everyone these days makes crappy videos as long as you have one, then your fine quality of the video has nothing to do with chart success bjork makes some of the best videos ever, but do you see her charting high in the states, or atleast, get airplay? have you seen gnarls barkley's new vid, "who's gonna save my soul?" a FANTASTIC video but thats not gonna help it get radio airplay heck, to be honest, it will get very little Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

YES - people do watch videos on youtube but it doesn't have an impact anyways because I just don't think people in general care about videos anymore the way they did. And obviously a great video doesn't do anything to airplay since most songs with much airplay got lame videos, while some of the artists with good videos struggle to get some airplay at all. Its airplay is about 1/20th of what 4 Minutes reached. This song makes Sorry look like a US megahit. 4 Minutes' airplay on its FIRST DAY at radio was higher than any full week of radio has been for GI2M. At this point you can pretty much count on all of Madonna's singles being ignored unless they are a lead track from a new album. It is in my opinion that in 2008 a grand or even decent video won't make a hit song like the old days. If anything it's the other way around....if radio is playing your song it will get played like 2 times on MTV per week (which is HUGE numbers for them) and since more people are hearing it on the radio more people are likely to search for it on youtube to watch it. In the case of GI2M, nobody has heard the song since radio won't give it a shot so therefore MTV certainly won't play it so therefore since people barely know of it's existance, the youtube hits probably aren't going to be as high. Word of mouth, combined with airplay, combined with "artist excitement" = success. Take Rihanna and UMBRELLA for example. Look what happened with that song. Not the BEST song in the world, but, a good hook, a lot of excitement surrounding her and then followed by a semi-cool ok-video and then a boat-load of re-makes. The production, melody, lyrical content and the arc of the song are perfect, the "ella ella" frame is borderline genius. It was more than a song; a marker in pop-cultural history.
