Let's hope the PARIS & LONDON/EURO BUZZ will keep it at #1 this week... we just don't know if it can trickle down until next week... The picture disc is released this week right, in the UK? aeroco Posted May 6, 2008 Share Posted May 6, 2008 The sales COADF achieved first week were extraordinary, even by Madonna's standards. 95k opening for HC is respectable. It is more than AL and BS, down on ROL and Music and about the sames as GHV2. HU was a great lead single and springboard for COADF and even though 4M is a success, it will probably take a more typical Madonna single to encourage further sales later this year. In fact, once Sorry had run its course, COADF sales fell away. It sold 830k in 6 weeks in 2005 and a further 200k when Sorry was out. I think it has just passed 1.3 million in total, but not 100%. So HC has loads of potential with the further singles and Christmas 08. Kylie's IMA is at number 12. Quite shocking that this will likely miss the top ten but its downloads just aren't strong enough and airplay is not as strong as for 2 Hearts and Wow. kangarooz Posted May 6, 2008 Share Posted May 6, 2008 FFS - the sales are GREAT considering she's done NO promotion in the UK, it hasn't been advertised on TV even and she's on course for her second week at number 1. To compare it to COADF's first week sales is RIDICULOUS, not just because of the seasonal factor but as the Alan Jones article points out, that was the best opening of her entire career. If Warners get the strategy right, HC should sell steadily and they'll do a big push on it at the end of the year, with the fourth single. How do it's opening week sales compare to those of X? Great to see she looks like doing the double for a second week and the 4 Minutes could be up there with ITG and Vogue in terms of weeks at number 1. The OCC’s decision stems from concerns over a Tesco promotion in which the supermarket giant offered Madonna’s new Warner Bros album Hard Candy for £9 including a free copy of one of The Immaculate Collection, Confessions On A Dance Floor, Music and Ray Of Light. The promotion gave a significant boost to sales of the four catalogue albums: by the end of last Tuesday, The Immaculate Collection, which had charted at 72 in the previous week’s chart, had shot up to 28 in the midweeks, alongside Confessions… at 48, Music at 95 and Ray Of Light at 110. Sales of all four titles had significantly increased week-on-week. However, Tesco sales of those four albums have been stripped out of the artist albums chart, published yesterday (Sunday), which Hard Candy was set to top after outselling its nearest competitor, Portishead’s Third, by more than two to one in the first two days of release.
