No. 1 'Club' for Usher again

Usher's Love in This Club stays at No. 1 on the national radio airplay audience chart compiled by Nielsen BDS, Arbitron and Radio & Records, and firms up its hold on the top spot in the process, growing in audience at double the rate of runner-up Touch My Body by Mariah Carey.

A tight, possibly four-way race is shaping up, as both third-place Sexy Can I, by Ray J, and No. 4 No Air, by Jordin Sparks, are up sharply in total audience. Chris Brown's former No. 1 With You is No. 5.

Sara Bareilles' Love Song ranks sixth, followed by the top 10 debut of Lil' Wayne's Lollipop, plus Flo Rida's Low, Leona Lewis' Bleeding Love and Rihanna's Don't Stop the Music.

Vast quantities of additional airplay information are available in what follows.

> The annotated top 10:

1-1 last week Usher, Love in This Club (up 8.6% in total audience): Increased its lead over Mariah from a bit less than 8 million audience impressions to nearly 14 million this week, and doubled Mariah's rate of increase, so it's looking secure at No. 1 for now.

2-2 Mariah Carey, Touch My Body (+4.2%): The big Mariah push comes this week -- album release, TV (two Idol appearances) and so forth, so it's kind of now-or-never time to see if it can hit No. 1.

3-4 Ray J, Sexy Can I (+12.4%): Within striking distance of Mariah (8 million impressions) with triple the rate of increase, so it's right there in the mix and may overtake her soon.

4-5 Jordin Sparks, No Air (+19.0%): But then there's this record, which is only 3 million impressions behind Ray J and is increasing its audience even faster. Great race.

5-3 Chris Brown, With You (-8.4%): It's a long way down from the top.

6-6 Sara Bareilles, Love Song (-0.7%): That should wrap it up.

7-12 Lil' Wayne, Lollipop (+40.5%): Hottest song of the week. The gap, lyrically speaking, between the first Lollipop hit of the modern era, by The Chordettes in 1958, and this is positively mind-boggling.

8-7 Flo Rida, Low (-10.3): Dropping faster now.

9-10 Leona Lewis, Bleeding Love (+23.9%): Minuscule chart jump, but not to worry -- the rate of increase is smashing and it should get to No. 7 or so next week. Then the test will come -- vanquishing all the hot records ahead of it.

10-8 Rihanna, Don't Stop the Music (-17.8%): Should be gone next week.

> Next week's top 10 contenders:

It appears that only one slow (Rihanna's) will be open, and that's likely to go to Rick Ross' The Boss, which moves 26-13 on the chart this week with a 20.8% audience increase. Nos. 14 and 15, Miley Cyrus' See You Again and Trace Adkins' You're Gonna Miss This, are still climbing, but more slowly.

> This week's hottest songs:

You know about Lil' Wayne, so the second-biggest audience increase is owned by Plies' Bust It Baby, up 36.8% for a chart jump of 93-62 in its second week. Danity Kane's Damaged moves 64-47 with a 30.2% increase in its third week. Carrie Underwood's Last Name jumps 79-63 in its second week with a 25.2% gain. Leona Lewis and Rick Ross have been mentioned above, so the last tune on our list is 3 Doors Down's It's Not My Time, up 90-69 in its second week thanks to a 20.2% audience increase.

> This week's debuts on the top 100:

Five songs enter the chart this week, led by Kenny Chesney's Better as a Memory at No. 76. John Mayer's Say comes in at 83, Rihanna's Take a Bow is 84, Maroon 5's Won't Go Home Without You bows at 93 and Jake Owen's Something About a Woman rounds out the quintet at 97.

She has the perfect storm of publicity. Its going to be HUGE. There is nothing she can do to fuck this up even if she gives a bad performance tomorrow.

I don't know about that. Considering how quickly "Touch My Body" cooled off on iTunes after its opening week. I am not sure this album is going to be as big as everyone thinks. Plus, there are other factors to consider:

1. The market is down since TEOM came out.

2. Mariah has never really had HUGE opening weeks like Timberlake or Linkin Park. Her sales have usually come through endurance.

3. The law of diminishing returns. She is doing the EXACT same strategy that she did with TEOM, and in my experience, lightning never strikes twice in the record industry with the same promo campaign.

I'm not saying this album will flop. I just think the Lambs are in for a bit of a disappointment, but perhaps not a major one.

Does anyone know how much Paula Abdul's downloads were this week. I am estimating that 4M remixes will sell about 3.5 times the total of Paula's song..

Lewis To Top Billboard 200 With ‘Spirit’

By Geoff Mayfield, L.A.

U.K. import Leona Lewis makes a huge splash at No. 1 on The Billboard 200, becoming the first British solo artist to debut in the U.S. chart's top slot, according to this morning's Nielsen SoundScan charts.

The singer, discovered on "The X Factor," Simon Cowell's British talent show, leads the list with opening-week sales of 205,000 copies. That gives Lewis' "Spirit" a commanding lead over last week's chart champ, George Strait's "Troubadour," which holds the runner-up spot with 59,000 sold.

Last year, Amy Winehouse's "Back To Black" set a record for the highest bow by a British female's solo debut when it entered at No. 7, although that set had not been Winehouse's first British release.

Lewis becomes the first Brit solo act to lead The Billboard 200 since Rod Stewart's "Still The Same... Great Rock Classics Of Our Time" led the page in the Oct. 28, 2006 issue. Moreover, she becomes the first British female soloist to do so since Sade's "Promise" reached No. 1 in February 1986, a couple of months before Lewis' first birthday.

The release of "Spirit" stirs an 11% rise for Lewis' lead single, "Bleeding Love," which returns to No. 1 on Hot Digital Songs with 223,000 sold for the week (2-1). The song has sold 1.1 million copies since U.S. downloads became available in late December, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Leona Lewis Makes Big Splash Atop Billboard 200

April 16, 2008

by Katie Hasty, N.Y., and Geoff Mayfield, L.A.

British import Leona Lewis' "Spirit" bows atop The Billboard 200 this week, making her the first U.K. solo artist to start at No. 1 with their debut effort. The Syco/J album moved 205,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan, with sales fueled by her No. 1 Hot 100 single "Bleeding Love." The singer was discovered on Simon Cowell's "The X Factor" in Britain.

Lewis becomes the first Brit solo act to lead The Billboard 200 since Rod Stewart's "Still the Same... Great Rock Classics of Our Time" in the Oct. 28, 2006 issue. Moreover, she becomes the first British female soloist to do so since Sade's "Promise" reached No. 1 in February 1986, a couple of months before Lewis' first birthday.

The release of "Spirit" stirs an 11% rise for "Bleeding Love," which returns to No. 1 on Hot Digital Songs with 223,000 sold for the week (2-1). The song has sold 1.1 million copies since U.S. downloads became available in late December, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Last week's Billboard 200 chart-topper George Strait's "Troubadour" (MCA Nashville) falls to No. 2 with 59,000, a 65% sales slide.

Country singer James Otto scores his first Billboard 200 ink with "Sunset Man," which debuts at No. 3 with 58,000. The singer's sophomore set, released via Raybaw/Warner Bros., is led with the single "Just Got Started Lovin' You," which climbed to a new peak 5-4 on Hot Country Songs this week.

The multi-label "NOW 27" compilation continues its decline 3-4 with 47,000, a 21% sales hit. With 46,000 and a 60% sales reduction, R.E.M.'s Warner Bros. set "Accelerate" falls 2-5. The Fox/Razor & Tie soundtrack to "Alvin and the Chipmunks" slips 5-6 to 40,000 (-22%).

With the help of hit "Sexy Can I" with Yung Berg, Ray J's "All I Feel" (Knockout /DEJA34/Koch) enters at No. 7 with 39,000, making it his best charting album yet. His former best came with 2001's "This Ain't a Game," which peaked at No. 21. "Sexy Can I" has peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100 thus far.

With 34,000, Rick Ross' "Trilla" (Slip-N-Slide/Def Jam) falls 6-9 on a 20% sales dip. The group's first effort for INO/Columbia, P.O.D. enters at No. 9 with "When Angels & Serpents Dance" with 34,000. The slot is a familiar one for the hard rock troupe, as 2006's "Testify" and 2004's "Payable on Death" also arrived there.

Danity Kane's Bad Boy album "Welcome to the Dollhouse" rounds out the top tier, slipping 7-10 with 28,000 (41%).

Nine Inch Nails' self-released instrumental album "Ghosts I-IV," which was released digitally last month, debuts at No. 14 with 26,000 after its physical release by RED Distribution. Previously, fans were able to obtain the album for only $5 online; NIN says it reaped $1.6 million in sales during its first week.

"Unfold" (Hollywood) by Marie Digby, who gained a following after posting an acoustic version of Rihanna's "Umbrella" on YouTube, starts at No. 29 with 18,000. Ashes Divide's Island debut, "Keep Telling Myself It's Alright," bows at No. 36 with 16,000.

A WIN CALLED MARIAH

Can Carey’s New Island/IDJ Album E=MC2 Hit 600k?

April 16, 2008

Everywhere you turn, Mariah Carey’s in your grill.

She’s on Oprah, two American Idols, in your e-mail, on your computer.

Mariah Carey’s new Island/IDJ album E=MC2, looks like it will sell over 500k, based on one-day sales reports, though last night’s Idol appearance could send it even higher. Wonderers are wondering if 600k is within reach. Needless to say, it will be #1 next week by a wide margin.

Other chart newcomers include Capitol Nashville’s Lady Antebellum (35-40k), Vagrant/Fontana thrash rockers Thrice (25-30k), Astralwerks’ The Kooks (15-20k, with a substantial iTunes number), Spinefarm/Fontana’s Children of Bodom (15-20k) and Virgin’s Tristan Prettyman (15k, with a large iTunes marketshare thanks to “Single of the Week” status).

The market was down 8% vs. last week, down 9% vs. same week last year and now down 12% year-to-date. You may return to dissing rednecks with Obama.

the songs from #1-#7 are close with each other - 24,000 chart pts above, Chris Brown is just around 16,000 chart pts...

it's just a very tight competition for spot #3 so M fans, don't throw in your panties just yet...

Question is, will it be another Damita Jo and suffer reduced estimates as the weekend approaches? it's 1st day of sales could've been very big because of the OPRAH appearance on Monday...

I dun think so 'cos

1. Mimi doesn't have scandal as compare to Floppita

2. Mimi's 1st single was #1 whereas Floppita's wasn't

Anyway, we'll get a better picture by wed right?
