I hope it doesnt peak on the 30m like HU. Good news is that URB is starting to pick it up a little. I just dont understand why RHY is so slow on this track? I mean its basicly a Justin, the RHY darling...

as i've said before... MADONNA's name alone can overpower any of her collaborators...

and MADONNA's just not accepted at these black-leaning stations...

I think when all is said and done 4 MIN will have had a nice peak the surpasses HU. Again this song is only a week old!!! The fact of the matter is most people have yet to even hear the song yet. I think once the video hits that will be the big thing that will give this song the huge push that it needs. Plus the fact that Madonna needs to get out there and start promoting a bit.

I have a question though...Its seems like just about every pop station is on board with this song. I doubt that urban will jump on it which will leave Madonna which a big disadvantage in terms of audience impressions (of course this is THE reason why the hot 100 is so biased toward urban acts since urban dominates radio) but what is the average peak for a huge pop song on the radio to have? Take for example Pinks Who Knew. I doubt urban touched that (though I could be wrong) but it was a massive hit, so what was its peak audience imp?

The top song on the pop radio chart typically has around 60m+ impressions.

God. How come billboard does not see something wrong with that!!!?? Anyway, I think a peak of around 50 million is possible for 4 MIN......I hope.

Um, I don't see anything wrong with it. Why is that a problem? And why is it Billboard's problem?

All Billboard does is measure things. People complain about it but Billboard has no control over what radio stations play or what people buy.

All the complaints boil down to people just not happy that their favorites don't chart as well as they want them to.

Cool news, then why are someone people tripping?

A lot of people on this board have insanely unrealistic expectations and are incredibly impatient.

They also take the charts way too seriously.

Becasue the aud imp count towards charting so urban artists have an upper hand right off the bat. Is this their way a affirmative action for the charts? Single sales have picked up again because of downloads. They should go by sales 100%. That just my opinion.

I tend to agree. At least make it 80/20.

The chances are 100% the same for everyone, and the chart is completely fair.

If you want a sales-only chart, it exists.

If you want an airplay-only chart, it exists.

The Hot 100 is meant to combine both. It is designed for the record labels, in order to gauge the success of their songs.

As it stands, on average, digital sales DO have greater weight.

If a song is only played by one genre of radio, then it is usually because it does not appeal to people listening to other genres of radio and/or because the record label has opted not to promote it there.

I have no idea why some of you would think it would be MORE fair to exclude huge segments of radio.

Sales does not tell you the most popular song -- it tells you the most purchased song. Plenty of people like songs that they don't buy the single for, and there are plenty of cases where a small group of people love a song (high sales) while a vast, much larger group of people hate it (low airplay) -- the Hot 100 balances that out.

Gripes about this system are tiresome and misinformed. Billboard is solely about measurement, and it is designed for the record labels, not for you.

Oh ma gudness. BAM. With you as the new mod, I might start actually coming in here for more than 5 seconds to see how she's doing! And I see this is doing considerably better than Hung Up now? Well I guess her last-ditch grasp at chart relevance is working! Good for her, I don't listen to radio except at work every now and then, so I still haven't heard it, but they made fun of it on the first day it debuted here in Orlando so I'm not holding my breath.

Low airplay doesn't mean people hate the song.

Low airplay doesn't mean people hate the song.

That's not what I was saying.

I'm saying that radio research that leads to a low favorable response will lead to low airplay.

This is a big part of why Britney never did all that well on radio. She had a diehard following among a lot of kids (and plenty of gays) but ask just about any person over 25 who isn't gay and you'll probably find few people who care for her music.

And she is not black or urban. :p

The same way that airplay does not tell you the most popular song either. Radio airplay ultimately depends on the DJs and programmers.
