HITS:

YOUR WEAKEND TOP 10: Break out the champagne—there will be two albums in six figures next week. Woo-hoo! Topping the chart will be the debuting Janet Jackson, whose first album for Def Jam/IDJ is moving toward 170-180k. She’ll be followed by Universal Motown left-of-center diva Erykah Badu, who should bow with 125-135k. Jack Johnson (Brushfire/Universal Republic), who spent the last three weeks at #1, will likely fall two places while chalking up a still-robust 85-90k. A third debut is next, as Webbie (Trill/Atlantic) trends toward 60-65k. Chart perennial Alicia Keys (J/RMG) will fight it out for #5 with the similarly leggy Hannah Montana 2 (Disney) in the 55-60k region, followed closely by the Oscar-fueled Once (Canvasback/Columbia) with a projected 55-60k.

Michael Jackson’s Thriller (Sony/Legacy) and Juno (Rhino) are on a collision course toward 40-45k, which brings us to the #9-13 slots. The order of their finish is presently too close to call, as Amy Winehouse (Universal Republic), the debuting Shawty Lo (Asylum), the surging Sara Bareilles (Epic), Mary J. Blige (Geffen) and Step Up 2 (Atlantic) all occupy the 30-35k hood. So that’s four soundtracks in the first 13 slots, for what it’s worth. (2/29a)

YESSSSSSSSSSSS JANET! PUNCH THOSE HATERS IN THE EYE!

There was never any doubt in my mind whatsoever that the album wouldn't debut at #1 in the U.S. though. I am very happy for Janet, this is her first #1 album since "All For You"!

Good going Miss Jackson, thats nasty!

Once again proving wrong the doubters.

There was never any doubt she'll be #1 in the albums chart... all a new album needs nowadays is to have no competition and sell around 150k and voila, you have a #1 album...

I'd be truly disappointed if a new MADONNA studio album will only sell these numbers at the given percentage... are you happy with this ms. bouncey12?

Her sales are going to be piss poor.

The Velvet Rope sold 202,000 in it's first week but went on to sell over 3 million copies.

This album will struggle to sell even half a million.

But kudos to her label for releasing it at this time of the year, it would have been embarrasing to do these numbers in November or December.

Janet has set a new low for the divas! :bad:

Poor Janet :chuckle:

Imagine, next week after the usual 70% drop, how many copies will she sell? 40k? :boring:

Usher's album doesn't have a release date yet- remember, his second-week numbers kept Janet's Damita Jo from No. 1! So, we'll see if Madge has to contend with his album. I don't know if Hard Candy can do as highas 350K in this climate- should be interestin'...

And, without question, Janet's numbers will be disappointing.

The album debuted at #1, what more could anyone ask for?

Your expectations arent very high at last, which is good, so it doesnt hurt you when you realise that it will strugle to sell 500 000 only in the US

At least Madonna haters can't use the 240k to get to No.1 for AL anymore. :D Janet has set a new low for the divas! :bad:

Glitter debuted at #7 with 116,000 copies sold.

Just Whitney debuted at #9 with 205,000 copies sold (but ended up outselling American Life due to the holiday season).

oh my... MADONNA will overcome an USHER album 2nd week sales... I hope USHER opts for an April 15 release...

Mariah and Miley Cyrus (concert cd/dvd) are both out April 15. Usher will stay away.

BUT, we could put his album out on April 22.

or maybe they would go for April 8... since Love In This Club was released earlier that TMB for downloads... maybe his album will be released before Mariah's as well... I am confident MADONNA can overcome USHER's 2nd week sales... especially if 4M is received by the public very well...

uhm, is Usher from IDJ? So Dupri is trying to know when it'll be released huh? I guess he's also trying to sway away from USHER... to help JANET or MC maybe?

-------------------------------------------------------

Usher Readies New Album

As of now, R&B sensation, Usher, hasn’t officially announced an album title or release date for his follow-up to his 2004 mega-smash hit, Confessions, but the word is that the wait won’t be too much longer.

“I was speaking to him the other day, asking him when he was gonna start putting singles out,” Jermaine Dupri tells MTV News late last week. “He said, ‘Soon.’ So, it’s coming.”

Dupri, a longtime friend and collaborator of Usher’s, is slated to contribute to the singer’s next offering. It looks as if Dupri’s words are a prophecy fulfilled because since last speaking with MTV News, two new Usher records have surfaced.

“In The Club,” produced by Polow Da Don is getting play, currently, on Atlanta radio stations. Young Jeezy is featured on the bass heavy, mid-tempo club ready banger. “I wanna make love in this club,” Usher sings on the chorus.

The second record, which is already floating around on the Internet, is called “Moving Mountains” and is said to be produced by Timbaland. As for the rest of the album, Philadelphia producers, Dre & Vidal have contributed several songs, while Lil Jon is waiting for the right record to add to Usher’s musical concoction.

The King of Crunk, having already given three smashes to Usher with “Yeah!,” “Red Light” and “Lovers and Friends,” isn’t trying to force anything.

“I’m trying to find a new sound. I don’t wanna come and have the same old, same old. I’m trying to give Usher that stadium record again. I don’t wanna give him no bullshit. I wanna give him another ‘Yeah!,’ another record that sets the tone for his entire album," said Jon.

There is no word as to whether “In The Club” or “Moving Mountains” are official singles or if they will even make the album.

Some of ou are really dumb. Do you really think that Madonna can go up from Confessions this time of year? Someone even said 500000 first week LOLOLOOLLLLLLLLL!!! I wouldnt be suprised if she pull numbers like AL, i mean she was promoting like hell then and couldnt get any more.

I HAVE SAID IT 100 TIMES ALREADY.

SPRING = BAD SALES! (ESP LATE SPRING)

Link to comment

^ But AL had a dud first single. It doesnt matter how crazy you get with the promotion, if people aren't digging it they wont buy it. Look at Janet as another example. She went on so many tv shows, yet only managed less than 180k.

Its the hype that sells the album mostly (first week), and Madonna has always been good at creating it.
